Mojo I really love your thorough explanations and research on basically everything! I loved the Scarlett letter for its poetic writing and thrilling aspects! Thanks again for bringing it back alive!
I'm not a fan of a good amount of books that were required reading in school. However "The Scarlet Letter" is really good and I have a fondness for it.
Nathaniel Hawthorne was related to an actual Salem Witch trial judge so he changed the spelling of his last name to ease the burden of his guilt. A lot of houses and cemetaries from the timeperiod are still in Salem. Today, there are around 3,000 registered witches living in Salem. Not sure why they have to register...
You can tell that they based this off of the movie.... not the book. In this video, WatchMojo makes the point that Dimmesdale's death was a punishment by the townspeople and that he accepts this... but he died on his own on the scaffold... He was not hung like how the movie would make it seem.
I've actually been to Hawthorne's birth place in Salem & visited the famous House of Seven Gables back in 2011. A must see for Hawthorne/literary fans.
What are examples of unheimlich in this book. I need to know. Please let me know. unheimlich is when normal things are first shown normal but as time grow they become extremely unordinary. For example, a dog on a walk then turns to a giant monster and starts eating people. Thanks
Could you guys do top 10 Disney Parks Attractions? With Small World and Carousel of Progress celebrating their 50th anniversaries, it seems appropriate. I also still stand by my Top 10 Alien moments for the 35th anniversary...
Dear WatchMojo I have my final English exam coming up next week and I have been praying since the moment I have started the class that you's upload either: Mojo notes: The Great Gatsby Or Mojo notes: A Streetcar Named Desire. I know it's a bit short notice but if yous could do something I would deeply appreciate it
This is a poorly researched video...half of what's in this video was NOT in the book...the clips from the 1995 movie also do not follow the book. This is an awful video, please watch the Sparknotes video instead if you are needing better clarification of the books plot after you have read the actual book. Do not base your knowledge of the book off of this poor video.
Well this was a sh!t day. We've only got one Top 10, and it's not appropriate for me. Top it off with a Mojo Notes episode and another Not a top 10 video, and you get a sh!t day.
I love the fact that it tries to teach women not to cheat. 90% of divorces is because women cheat. The other 10% is because women nag at thier husbands so much that it drives them to cheat. Word of advice, get a prenuptial agreement.
Okay, I'm just going to ignore those false statistics for a moment because you seem a bit bitter and ignorant. So, I'll just reply to the first sentence. The story wasn't trying to teach women not to cheat. Implying so is a bit ridiculous. It wasn't really a message about infidelity at all. And also, Hester was under the belief that her husband was dead (seriously, read the book!). It is a story DEPICTING how someone in her position would've been treated at that point in history. In other words, it exposed historical problems in the same fashion that Huckleberry Finn did. As an example, Huckleberry Finn used racist language and situations to expose the severity of historical racism, rather than promote racism. Erasure only causes ignorance- the same ignorance you seem to possess, based on your statements. Hawthorne wrote Hester as a strong protagonist- even despite being ostracized by her surrounding society. If he was trying to convey any message by writing The Scarlet Letter, it was most likely a condemnation of Puritan society.

This is the 3rd time you've released one of these videos the day after I've taken the test.
LOL
XD
Omfg
i like the way the book ended it better... dimmesdale died because of his guilt. like it literally ate away at him until he died.
i dunno. them killing him in the end seems a little anti-climactic...
*****
How is it a dumb cliche if it was written in 1850?
Nathaniel had great compassion for women. 💕

Mojo I really love your thorough explanations and research on basically everything! I loved the Scarlett letter for its poetic writing and thrilling aspects! Thanks again for bringing it back alive!

Hey the scarlet letter would have never happend if dimmesdale learned to pull out.
Pithy and understandable.
One of the most confusing books I ever read.
Imagine if women had to wear the A on their clothes today,
that'll be A nice view to see
If that happened today it won't
be an A it would be a C for cheater. Like when a whife or girlfriend cheats on her husband or boyfriend.
Sup
As much as I liked the concept of the book, it was a bore to read.
Only clicked cause EASY A
Second... I guess
