All I got from this review was that it works for both Mac and Windows and has a minimalist design that matches my desktop components. I'm getting one right now.
Well...It makes sense that it performs different functions in different programs. Not sure why that is your complaint..? What would the better alternative be?
I appreciate your forthright and objective position as regards this keyboard. I can see why someone who does a lot of video editing would choose to switch to it. As a professional writer, on the other hand, I would personally recommend the Das Keyboard 4 Pro. No, it's not wireless (some see that as a feature, not a flaw, frankly) -- no, it's not *as* minimalist -- but with a two port USB 3.0 hub built in, a dedicated volume control dial, and dedicated media keys, it just might be *the* best keyboard for professional writers.
I've had this keyboard for about 2 years now and I still love it. (no gaming, just video editing) If you have the crown controlling chrome it changes the tabs and with a press down on the crown it will adjust the volume. I've used it consistently with the backlight on and I'm ready to replace the battery soon, should be an easy replacement though. The pros far outweigh the cons IMO, Good review!
@@tomigoe376 I just saw your message. The crown on my keyboard does change the tabs in Chrome and if i'm watching video in the Chrome bowser it will also adjust the volume if you press down the crown. And as far as the annoying squeak that Mark mentions about the spacebar, that was also true on mine, but it eventually went away over a period of time of a few months.
Every so often I run into a premium product sold for a premium price that I just don't love, and I feel obligated to tell you guys about it. Hope you appreciate my honesty! 😅
The squeak is not a product-related but a scissors mechanism-related general problem. I've got a Microsoft Surface Keyboard and it's doing the same with my backspace sometimes :D
It's just the best keyboard they ever made. I have 2, one for home use, 1 for on the road (as a developer). Yes expensive, but ... it's my working tool... so worth it! fyi, one has a defective battery, but keeps working via the usb (no longer a green led)
I switched from Logitech g pro keyboard to this one and I don't regret it at all. Before buying it, check out Logitech mx keys, it's legit the same keyboard, just without that little scroll wheel aka. crown and it's about 80-100€ cheaper.
I just bought the MX Keys (Craft without that dial) and I love it. It's 100% better than my Apple keyboard. Matches with the MX vertical mouse which I also love.
Haha. While not quite as clean, the Surface Dial paired with the Surface Keyboard could be an alternative, but I haven't used either of them. I know Palette Gear has some great tactile tools for video editors too - those could be good paired with a cheaper wireless keyboard.
@@MarkSpurrell I'm sure a Surface Dial could look good next to an Anne Pro or a nice Ducky mechanical keyboard. Wouldn't carry that low profile aesthetic though. D2D recommended against the new low profile Cooler Master keyboard, but she's a beaut.
I saw that. It's a shame it isn't that great a keyboard. I had the first version of the Anne pro and loved it, but I just couldn't get used to the 60% layout after all.
Got the Keychron Q3 for the same price and it's absolutely incredible. After buying 3 Das Keyboard 4 Pro keyboards, I'm now firmly in the Keychron camp.
I fully agree - I just received mine today, two hours of use and I returned it to the store. Looks amazing but pretty lame, really premium feel though.
same with me. got mine yesterday. And now I am struggling if i should bring it back. Yes it has a real nice feeling when tiping on it. But the concept of the crown is somehow not very well concepted.
I have been using this keyboard (light use) for about a year. Tonight I was installing a firmware update. The keyboard was working fine, then suddenly my computers telling me that it no longer detects the keyboard. It becomes completely nonfunctional except for the blinking red and green light. I tried restarting everything including the keyboard itself, and plugged it to the usb charger. Its been a few hours and ... still nothing, The light just keeps alternating red and green. Did I just brick my keyboard? Is that even possible? Thanks in advance.
I use it with the mx anywhere 2s mouse and flow on multiple machines. Worth every penny to me for the desk space and crown in Adobe products. I guess everyone has a different idea on what is to much of a price.
I mean...it's called...CRAFT. If you're not *crafting* something...why would you even consider this purchase? Of course it's not worth for people who are not into creative apps. For me tho, it's perfect. I'm a pro artist who also finished graphic design university, I'm into 3D modelling, game dev, video and photo editing, etc...a lot of creative software and this is absolutely THE perfect keyboard for me. It has low profile keys (an absolute must for me, I don't like high, noisy mechanical keys) and it has a nice tasteful design unlike 99% of the gaming keyboards. For a hardcore gamer, I sure seriously dislike gaming keyboards. Oh and I also hate cables and I'm trying to go all wireless. I have only one critique...I wish it was RGB so I can make it match my Philips Hue setup. I also got mine on sale for 140 € which is like 170 $
When scrubbing through Premiere, is it possible to disable the giant "Timeline Navigation" icon? Kind of wack having a big graphic blocking your sequence
There is a number of issues with the keyboard, pf which the worst by far would be: - the Command key is where the Alt key is supposed to be - and vice versa. - the Command, Alt and Spacebar often perform an entirely different functions than what same keys in a proper Apple (and even other Logitech) keyboard do. - for instance, the Spacebar doesn't do what it's supposed to (i.e., Quick View) in Finder. It opens the selected files selected. This is insufferable. Absolutely insufferable! - one can't re-map the keys using software. As for the physical design, the keyboard is extremely heavy at 960 (or thereabouts) grams. The keys are delightfully tactile - a pleasure to type on. Keys are larger than some others and, indeed, the concave shape aids ergonomics - another strong suit of the Craft. The key illumination is indispensable (a great shame, Apple's own wireless keyboard lack backlighting). The keyboard could do away with the extra number pad (a smaller footprint would be nice), and the screenshot and calculator buttons could be repositioned to save space.
Logitech is misleading the customer with photos with the US layout (the flat enter one). Unfortunately they don't sale keyboards with this layout anymore. And no one on their company has cared to change any of photos. I've tried to buy this keyboard several times with different layouts to get flat enter and without that stupid \ key next to left shift. Unsuccessfully. If someone has that keyboard with this layout, and wants to sell it - please let me know!
I had the same experience as you. The keys wiggle. They are “softy” and, 2 days of use and I was having lag issues. I went back to a wired apple keyboard. I will try to build a custom keyboard with khail x switches.
Oh, I'm done here :-) The price went down to less than USD150, just got it today and despite of not being so impressed by the Crown (waiting for more applications and ways of use...), the keys are amazing, it's a joy to type and no squeeking of the space bar here. I even liked the backlighting on/off to start with, maybe I'll switch it off later on. SInce I'm on the Mac, I'll really need to struggle against getting the MX3 mouse as well, just to complete the setup. I have the verssion 2 and it still works great. I've been going back and forth between the Apple mini keyboard, Logitech Solar keyboard (the letters almost totally worned out after 2-3 years of use) and since I've had many BT disconnecting issue with the Apple's mini keyboard, I thought of upgrading. Then Apple came (was it two days ago?) with the 10.15.6 update which addressed "BT connectivity issues", maybe I could've saved some buck... But I wanted a full keyboard with numeric pad and backlighting, so here I am. Quite happy I must say
As a once (and hopefully soon again) Mac user, I'm actually pretty taken with the MX Master 3 mouse myself -- at least a priori. I'm torn between that and a Magic Trackpad 2 in Space Gray. (Grey?) In either case, the pointing device will be paired with a Das Keyboard 4 Pro for Mac.
A little update after some time of use - the keys are wonderful to write on, yes, the battery time isn't terrific if I'll "let it shine" and respond to my arms movements. But it's a great feature so I'm charging by default every 2-3 days. I leave it to charge while I'm preparing breakfast and making myself ready to work and that's it. I need to point out the quite cluttered keys when it comes to ÖÄÅ (Nordic layout) as well as the two keys to the right of "0" (zero), it's like 3, 5 icons and since I don't type in blind, it's... cluttered and confusing. I guess I'll get used in the coming months. And to correct myself regarding bluetooth and my old Mac wireless mini keyboard disconnecting - it's in the OS, same thing with this new keyboard, oh well. All in all, a bit overpriced at it's 150 USD, some cluttered keys but hey, the numeric pad and the joy of soft writing, I'm fine.

You can add some mundane functions to work with other applications, but keeping mental track of various configurations is impossible, and there's no easy cheat to see the defined functions.
