    • @AutPen38

      I missed that track back in the day, but just had a a quick listen. The Orch/choir hit has a very similar timbre to the infamous T99 Anastasia stab from the same year, but with more sustain. I don't think it was ever estalbished what the source for the T99 sound was. It kind of reminds me of Carmina Burana, but I'm sure someone at WhoSampled would have found the right recording of it if something that famous was the source. I wonder if T99 actually ripped it from Apollo 440, or whether it's a couple of layers from a synth/sampler/rompler if not from a record. It's a very 'big' sound, innit?

    • @Bthelick

      As a newbie you have the advantage of not knowing how everyone else works,so most things you attempt will be original!
      Although in reality what just regards as 'original' is usually a combination of lots of combined influences, or when someone fails at copying something and accidentally created something different!
      If you're staring at a blank screen, As a newbie instead of aiming for original, I advise the opposite, you try to copy as many sounds /artists /genres as possible that's a great way to learn anything , and how we do things naturally (like how you pick your language up from parents). then at least you have a 'palette' of ideas and skills to draw from. But just know even with all this great technology, nothing comes easy when you're new, just keep at it! 👊

    • @Bthelick
      @Bthelick  Год назад +1

      Well AI can already identify some of them. Googles own LM engine is down to less than a second already, And it does that regardless of pitch or tempo alterations or even if it's buried in other sound. • @rikkshow
      @rikkshow Год назад +1

      Any recorded work is under copyright. And samples from old school samplers and Romplers are considered recordings too. So even one millisecond from a recording is copyright infringement. There is NO ambiguity here, nothing to argue.
      What happens is many sample and hope to get away with it, but major labels typically clear before release.
      Derivative works are still copyrighted, so that includes, repitching, time stretching etc.

    One shot samples should not be copyrightable in the same way you can't copyright your guitar pedal board setup. Are you "copying?" Sure, but unless it's blatant plagiarism, the resulting music will probably be different.
    Idk if this is true, but I've actually heard one reason _"EDM"_ and rave music did so much better in Europe is because they had more lax copyright laws... And I'm sure they had more freedom to sample American media, especially.

    • @Bthelick
      @Bthelick  Год назад

      I get where you're coming from but a guitar signal chain is not analogous to a recording.
      You appear to be confusing / conflating a few different copyrights there. "copyright" is not one thing. There are different types for which we have separate protections. A guitar rig, if possible would be a patent probably, whereas for music we have separate copyrights for compositions, recordings, performances and syncronisations.
      A typical guitar rig is easy to recreate, or even happen upon, so indeed should not be copyright-able.
      But a recording made with that rig will be a completely unique event captured in time , and extremely hard to recreate accidentally. Even the same guitarist through the same rig over 100 different takes. Will never capture the same recording or performance exactly.
      The plagiarism you're referring to I think is composition / writing. if you do different things with that recording sample then sure it's not the same composition or final recording. But it still contains an exact copy of someone else's recording.
      In the same way that if someone re-recorded your song with completely different sounds and people, should they be allowed to do so without recompense or credit?
      It works both ways.

Is it still a copyright issue than or harder to detect?

      AI can detect sounds inside other sounds already, whether it's sophisticated enough to dissect that particular combo who knows.
      Two factors have to be at play, 1) the admin has to be cheap enough for the major label to automate , and 2) The track has to be a big enough earner to be worth pursuing. It's all about money after all.

      Recording copyright is the specific recording.
      Timbre isn't copyrightable , only the recording of a timbre. It would be impossible to remake something exactly, especially from this era, of analog tape/vinyl etc.
      Anything I could make would not have an identical voltage / waveform signature. (Think fingerprints) .

Could you please make a detailed video on sampling and copyright please.

    • @Bthelick
      @Bthelick  Год назад +1

      I will do a video.
      Officially released (with a license) sample packs are usually fine. They are made from scratch (or supposed to be) like I will be doing here , creating new recorded sound.
      And they come with a license to use non-exclusively in your music, often for no royalty payment (called royalty free) as the upfront cost covers the license fee in those cases.
      Rave generator is just ripped sections of classic tracks. sampling of existing recorded sound (from music) is infringing on the copyright of that recording.
      Hopefully that makes a little sense.

    • @Bthelick
      @Bthelick  Год назад +1

      One shots are still recordings it doesn't make a difference, a recording is a recording, it's down to where it comes from that is all. A pack (or instrument) of one shots from a sample company that makes their own is fine (dependant on the licence for that sample pack) , where as a pack (or instrument) of one shots taken from others is copyright infringement.
      To be clear , I don't know if the Labels will ever do this, I was warning about a worse case scenario and presenting the facts as they currently are. It's all down to money , If they can make money from suing someone at little cost to them (i.e. automated by AI) then its certainly possible, but it could also go the other way and it all gets so un-policeable that the this archaic copyright system will finally be overhauled .

Even though the low end is tight. I struggle with where to put hats, snares, fx, vocal, leads. All these more or less are in similar frequencies.

    • @Bthelick
      @Bthelick  Год назад +1

      That's just down to references usually.
      I don't like making traditional mix videos because what most mix videos never factor in is that _you_ can't hear what _they_ can hear! and that's an ear training difference which can't be taught in the video.
      Any techniques shown can never be universal solutions. So if you don't have the ear training to know when to apply said technique then the video will be pointless, or even worse dangerous! Because you now have this new 'technique' that you've learned and are excited to try, but because you don't have the ear training yet you will blindly apply it to situations that don't deserve it thinking it's the go-to fix, thus making new problems (that you still can't hear!)
      For example you already know your mixes are muddy but you can't hear it!
      So there's not a lot I can teach really, there's certainly no secret tricks or solutions, other than don't have the mud!!! 🤣.
      it's just about being able to spot it by hearing better, And as most people don't have the luxury of a great monitoring situation the absolute best thing you can do is reference more. And by "more" I mean "a lot more"!!, (see my 3 Rs video for more info)
      Also remember you're talking to someone who barely does any mixing! So I will always point to sound selection being the problem and again that comes back to having the wrong reference or not matching the reference well. That process starts before the track starts. If you're trying to mix after you've finished all of your sounds and production and arrangement, it's not going to be ideal, or will be severely compromised in the process of improving it.
      To answer where to put snares leads and vocals etc; you put them where you want the listener's ears to focus on, and where you want the body to move to.
      You can do this in 2 ways:
      a) arrange better so the fighting elements don't exist at the same time in the first place , or
      b) if they do have to overlap , pick one, make sure its the focus and turn down anything else that gets in the way, it doesn't have to harder than that. (Remember elements don't have to be static, you can automate things in and out of focus as needed.

Every recording's voltage signature is unique (like a finger print) and using any exact recording of anything by someone else without permission/licence is copyright infringement. you can use the preset / same sound on your recordings if you own that module /instrument, but you can not use someone else's recording of that preset.
