  • Tissue sampling of the renal lesion is performed under image guidance, commonly CT or ultrasound guidance. It is often performed on outpatient basis.
The patient lies on the procedure table.
The initial CT images are obtained.
The location of the lesion in the kidney is determined.
The biopsy device cannula entry site is marked on the skin.
Then, the access site is sterilized.
The access area is covered by a surgical drape.
The skin and renal capsule are numbed with a local anesthetic at the access site.
A very small nick may be made in your skin to make it easier to pass the needle into the renal lesion.
Then, the tip of a cannula is placed within the renal lesion under CT guidance.
The biopsy device is prepared, and then advanced through the biopsy cannula into the lesion. Subsequently, multiple passes are performed to obtain required tissue samples.
The entire procedure usually takes between 30 to 60 minutes.
At the end of the procedure, the biopsy cannula is removed, and pressure is applied to stop any bleeding.
Subsequently, dressing is applied at the opening on the skin.
Benefit: Obtaining tissue samples for pathology work up which is the gold standard of diagnosis.
Risks: Bleeding, infection, non-target organ injury
Alternative options: surgical tissue sampling or not performing any tissue sampling.

For those of you wondering. I literally had this procedure done 3 days ago. The only thing I felt was a brief pain from the lidocaine injection, and that didn’t last more than a second. As far as the biopsy, didn’t feel a thing. I was able to go home about 3 hours after it was done. The very next day I felt like my stomach area was sore. But that was it. I had it done on a Friday and was back to work on Sunday. Just give yourself a good solid day to just rest and sleep.

Thanks for sharing. Did they let you drive home or did they require you have a driver?

      Pain?

    • @IRADGraphics
      @IRADGraphics  Год назад

It could be painful (mild to moderate). Patients commonly receive moderate sedation including (midazolam or fentanyl) as well as local lidocaine to help controlling the pain, and it works pretty good.

Hey, thanks for sharing, do you mind if I ask you about it? How was your recovery process? As in did it take a while for you to get back to everyday life and about the level of pain after the numbing wore off? They have not told us anything about it. I'm driving my mom to the hospital for a biopsy tomorrow at 6a.m My apologies if this is too much or too personal, I'm very nervous and emotional.

@@danaejharris0716 to be honest I don’t really remember being in pain. They gave Anastasia so I wasn’t awake during it. I think I remember my back hurting to bend. I recovered pretty quickly I think but I hope your mom is doing okay.

Had a ct scan done for back pain and they found a growth on my right kidney,But the pain was not up under the rib cage it was just above the hip kinda just right of the center. Comes and goes.Think they will want a biopsy if the pain is a damaged tendon or back muscle.

Yes, there is no contraindication to feed the kid after biopsy. You have to only wait for certain amount of time to let you body metabolize and clean the sedation medications

So does the Kidney Biopsy on the Kidney make Biogenetic Kidney Beans ? 🤔

I am not sure about your questions, but biopsy just obtains tissue samples for diagnosis of underlying disease
