Needed to hear this as the hospital have been trying for nearly 5 months to get me in for a biopsy due to my egfr fluctuating between 9 and 45 (previously in the 90s) and creatine in the 300s. Nothing has changed my end I just felt unwell and that's what showed up. It's taken so long for me to agree to a biopsy as no one explained it in depth to me like you guys just have. I'm autistic and like to know the how, what, where and when, so thank you for this.
We're so glad you found it helpful and hope you are able to get some answers on your kidney health with your biopsy!
Thank you so much. You are so good at explaining this complicated process.
You're very welcome! Thank you for watching!
I have lupus and may be progressing towards needing a biopsy. This made the process super clear so thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
I am having Kidney biopsy this week and this was really helpful. I am sure the nephrologist that I gonna see tomorrow will explain the same thing what was explained in this video. I do have some more questions and naturally will ask the doctor tomorrow.
Glad you were able to learn from this video and think of great questions to ask your nephrologist!
I am being told to get a kidney biopsy. Yes, protein and blood in my urine, but around 11 years ago was diagnosed with Prostate cancer after blood was showing up in the urine. No treatment at all for that.
A couple of months ago a Nephrologist said my kidneys were fine, now I'm suddenly told I need a biopsy and that also needs to be done in the next week or so. Hmm? I'm troubled about this because I feel fine, don't need or use any medication at all. 76 years old and still work 6 days a week.
Regards from Kuwait and always watching your videos. I’m 68 I have CKD stage 3 with significant protein in urine but during a year time of labs is diminishing. Do I wait before a biopsy. Thanks Doctor.
That's great that your proteinuria is improving! We are happy to hear that. We cannot provide individual recommendations on whether someone should get a biopsy or not. It is best to talk with your physician about the benefits of doing one vs risks specific to you and your situation!
We have d same situation. I had biopsy last year. Result was: IGA NEPHROPATHY, auto immune disease, stage 3B Chronic kidney disease. I’m 70 female. Now I’m taking ketoanalogues 9tablets/day to lower creatinine. And taking Dapagliflozin 10mgs , too
@@evelynaustria5227 wishing you the best. I’ll wait a bit before biopsy since protein in urine is getting lower
Very good info., thanks for sharing.
Glad it was helpful!
I just had a kidney biopsy two days ago. I have to wait two weeks for the results
How are u feeling after the test
Hi I wondered if you could offer some advice.
My brief AKI history: 2022-AKI created Hydronephrosis in both kidneys caused by very enlarged prostate.
GFR=19!
Had TURP procedure and removed bladder stone. No kidney stones. Stents used in both Ureters. Right Kidney recovered to sufficent status but Left one is still severe after repacing with larger stent
Final review 2/24-Left kidney is "written off", never improved with stenting. NO pain on L side. 1/24 18/1.55(51), alb/creat 55 big improvement!.
Latest GFR=51
Is there anything I can still do to improve the Hydronephrosis, or just maintain from this point?
any ideas would so greatly be appreciated. :)
This is difficult to answer without looking at the full imaging studies. Unfortunately, if the damage has caused signficant scarring, then the likelihood of coming back is very low.
Hello mam, i am from India. My brother has creatinine level 2.6 and we come to know a month ago that he had some problem. His kidney can be cured
Good morning 😊
Good morning!
Does low urine output need a kidney biopsy?
Yes, includes little or no urine output
Thank you Dr. your explanation was not only in-depth but reassuring.
Can your kidneys affect your breathing ?
Certainly. There can be fluid retention with kidney disesae that cause water to build up in the body, including the lungs.
What if the biopsy is inconclusive?
Unfortunately, this can happen sometimes. It then becomes a discussion of risks vs benefits to decide if we should go back in and do another biopsy or start treatment based on what limited data we have.
I'm going to have a kidney biopsy soon.
How did it go? I will be getting one soon. Hope is all well.
@@jomaprwere you able to do the biopsy, because I will be having one soon but I’m scared 😢
This was such a great informational video. I'm having a bisopy on kidney as Dr found a liason on right one. They think is cancer.
I'm only 19 and have already had 3 renal biopsies, what do you think could be the reason for this.
For me the worst part of a past biopsy procedure was having to pee in a bedpan and in the most recent one, i got internal bleeding which caused a blood clot. That caused further investigations like doing ultrasound and deciding what medicines to take for the pain.
You do feel pain I had one done July 3 2024 I have hemotoma and iam in some much pain
Hello Dr would you still recommend biopsy for someone with microscopic hematuria or and amount of blood and protein?
Sorry I didn’t get notified
Thank you 🙏 for explaining biopsy process and why doctor will request it.
Glad it was helpful!
