I have the Flip 6 and Emberton II. I love both, but I lean towards the Marshall more. Sound-wise, cannot go wrong with either purchase. The Marshall just looks cooler, has simple physical interface controls, has the longer battery life, is easy to pair up when juggling multplee sources, but most importantly, is shaped like a box. I tend to move my laptop table around often, and the Flip 6 would always roll off the edge. lol

you can put them in 3 diffrent categories. Bose is most neutral sound. JBL is clubmusic and Marshal leans towards aucustic live music sound. If you try play the "correct" songs for each speaker they will come alive for real. There are 3 diffrent sound filters that are slightly tuned for diffrent consumers depending on the brand.

It was time to replace my Bose Mini, and wanted to go with the JBL Flip 6 because I really like the look of it. After comparing the JBL and Bose Flex, I went with the Bose because of the quality of the sound. Plus they do have an automatic EQ adjustment depending on the position the speaker is in that really works and don't have to fiddle around with an app to adjust like you have to do with the JBL.

The Marshall sounds quieter overall in the sound test. I wonder if it just doesn't go as loud, or maybe the volume levels could be tweaked?
The Marshall seems to beat the JBL in range--the bass and treble are better--but the JBL kills it in the midrange vocals. I like metal, so for me it's the Marshall. I would bet most people would lean toward the JBL.

Easy breakdown, Bose to hear the bass and have a soft sound, Marshall for clarity of instruments and balanced sound and the JBL for Clear yet loud vocals when playing songs, so for e.g i would say bose for reggae and rnb/hiphop, marshall for acoustic,festival/rock music and JBL for pop type music focusing on vocals, all 3 are the best of this category but all are designed for different genres of music and serve different purposes

I don't rely exclusively on what is said in one review. I do watch a lot and then make a conclusion which suits me the best. I don't doubt that Bose has the best sound, but how much better is it than Marshall, so I would choose to buy it. I couldn't resist the design of Marshall, and finally, I picked Stockwell II. And I love it! I love how they made it...
I find the sound pretty interesting. It is coloured compared to the stereo I listen to at home all the time, not comparable... but for me, not disturbing at all, really interesting. I don't do that anymore, but I did a pretty big part of my life, and it didn't bother me. I can afford better sound these days, but the sound is just a bonus; the music matters. And I didn't need these speakers; I am just a collector of not-very-expensive stuff. And these speakers are fabulous, I am happy to have bought it even if I won't use it... or very rarely. In this comparison, the Bose sounded the best without a doubt. You had it playing louder than the other two, but even after adjusting the volume, it still just sounded more full-range and clear. 2nd place would be the Marshall, it was a bit more balanced, even though it missed the Bose's authority. I am using some Bose QuietComfort 15 headphones and they do fine but are not the best. I like the looks of the Marshall, then JBL then Bose. In listening to this, the Marshall sounds boxy, the Bose sounds smooth but a little lacking in base and the JBL sound clearer but also lacking in base. Thanks Ceon. Great review. And glad you focused on sound rather than apps/weight/funky colours.
Sound test was very useful, and noticeably different between them, with Bose #1.
The problem is that I don't listen to that type of music 😂. I'm 51, and my music varies between classic rock, hard rock, 80s/90s pop classics, dance music, folk, classical, world music. Almost nothing contemporary.
Closest in sound that I listen to would likely be some 80s/90s west coast rap or 90s RnB. I'm guessing the Bose would still manage that wide spectrum of music best, but given acoustic (rock/folk/classical/80s) accounts for 75% of my listening, I'm wondering if the musicality and tonality of the Marshall might work better.
Also, I've been led to believe that the Marshall needs to have the back placed close to a wall to get the stereo bounce back and extra depth that seems to be lacking when compared with the Bose. In an open space like your test, that extra punch is washed out.
Anyway, thank again. Best review out there. 🤘

I listened to all 3 at Target (granted each with their company demo setup) and the Emberton sounded like a speaker half the price of the Bose. The JBL as it always does to me sounds good until vocals kick in. They always sound so hallow like in an empty hallway. Great party speaker where clarity isn’t as important.
The Bose sounded the best for sure…like really good with the Target demo. And I’ve heard different Bose speaker demos at Target over the many years and never really liked Bose sound…usually muffled vocals. But this Flex seems to have fixed the vocals clarity that I find most Bose to lack.
I was most disappointed with the Emberton though. I had high hopes. Love the style, but It just sounded cheap, but at $160 it is anything but.
One speaker I keep hearing good things about is the Earfun Uboom L. I am not a bass head and do prefer accurate clarity with a more balanced approach. Vocals are important to me with them being clear and slightly forward but not shrilling either. I already ordered a Bose Flex but I’m tempted to order the Uboom L as well for $60. In my YT listening I do prefer the Oluv tuning, but from what I hear that doesn’t come stock and you have to flash the speaker with a PC. I’m not too excited about doing that.

I spent 2 hours at Best Buy and had the rep. change all settings and play all genres and while I have never been fond of Bose, I have always considered them overrated and recognized by brand….they blew everything else out of the water, in my opinion. To be honest, I was shocked and left with the Bose. I am no audiophile at all and have old, 53 year old ears, but it was darn near night and day for me.

Why don't anybody simply say "thank you" to the creator of this test? I do say thank you!
Thus I'm playing RUclips on my Laptop (Bluetooth 5.3), I'm also using my In-Ears Sennheiser Momentum TW 3 (Bluetooth 5.2). A sound qualitity I rely on to 100%.
So, whatever equiptment the creator uses - I can compare the sound. Therefore I'm grateful that I get the chance to compare the sounds of Bose, Marshall and JBL without spending any money or waste time picking and droping packages at the postal station.
By the way ... they all sound terrible. But Bose comes closest to my hearing habbits ;-)

I like your reviews. They are really good. Clear and concise.
My opinion is that, as you said, it depends on what people like. Personally, because of the music I listen to, rock mostly, I found the JBL terrible for my taste, and although I'm a Marshall lover, I have to give it BOSE, they win this round, at least in my eyes.
    Thanks for another great review.
    Cheers!

PLEASE TAKE THE TIME TO READ THIS.
Just a thought on the JBL Flip 6 vs the Bose SoundLink Flex. They are the same size and according to the internet the bose has a larger transducer than the JBL but the JBL has a tweeter and an adjustable equalizer within the app where as at this time on the bose connect app there is not an equalizer to adjust the sound. But I have another bose speaker and it uses a different music app and it runs on the bose msuic app and in the bose music app it has an equalizer so you can adjust the bass and the treble to your liking. And in the JBL portable app you can do the same thing except you can also adjust the mid-range. Bose could add an EQ to there app in the future/near future. Bc I read on the internet that when the JBL flip 6 was released it did not have an adjustable eq within its app for its speakers. But now it has an eq in the app. I think with the equalizer off on the JBL the bose sounds better but with the eq on I think the JBL sounds better. So if bose added an equalizer that could change things. I know the speaker has position IQ technology where it’s supposed to adjust the sound depending on which way you lay it but it would be nice to be able to turn that off if you wanted to. A similar portable speaker called the sonos roam has a similar feature but in the sonos s2 app you can turn that feature off. In the bose app you cannot do that or on the speaker itself either. And also Sonos has an adjustable EQ within the app like the JBL. The bose is behind the times with that but I bet they’ll change for the better. I would turn position IQ off and have an equalizer set to my liking if I could. I prefer my bose soundlink flex to sit upright so it’s pointing at me but they say it will produce more bass if you lay it flat, in my testing this is true. A little more bass for sure. Which I like. But I shouldn’t have to lay it flat to get maximum bass output. And the speaker needs better rubber feet on it because sometimes it will move it self. Or vibrate itself off the table. So I would recommend not placing it near the edge of a table if you don’t have to. Thank you for whoever actually takes the time to read this.

I went with the Bose after sampling all three speakers. I have the first JBL Extreme that I use outdoors by our wide open pool area and I’m very happy with the sound quality and level, but I needed one that’s easier to carry around when traveling. The Bose just sounded better than the JBL Flip 6. I was almost swayed by the Marshall but I kept going back to Bose for the better sound quality. Very happy with the purchase. Can’t compare to the volume coming out of the Extreme. But I’ve also already replaced the battery in it twice in only 4 years.

The JBL sounds a little shrill and hollow. If you want more treble the Bose Flex goes on its back and the EQ is automatically adjusted to increase treble, but never shrill or hollow. IMO it sounds even better that way and is how I listen to it exclusively.

Marshall has the juicier sound to me. The others sound dry. Sounds like there is much more going on in the mids, compared the the other two. Bose is bassy and dry, overall very well balanced, JBL overall good balance and very clear and pronounced trebles, but dryer compared to the Marshall. All the tracks are basically the same music, you should play different genres and just human voice as well, many people listen to just youtube podcasts this days.

I find in these reviews I've seen the Emberton has a presence similar to a live performance. With a cleaner but not necessarily stronger bass.
The Flex has a presence that isn't as crisp and "live" sounding as Emberton but has the sound.of a high quality wider range speaker. It has better bass reproduction but is more thumpy or tubby than it is punchy. Perhaps better suited to classical and supper club music.
The JBL seems heavily weighted to the high and mid ranges and strongly suited to vocals.
If battery life is your main concern, Emberton is your choice.
If mono party sync of multiple speakers is your meed, any of them may do. But, if true L/R stereo, you'll have to go with Bose. I own two Flex and the separation on a crappy compressed YT playback is extremely discrete. It can be tricky setting it up without using the app and unfortunately it does not "remember" stereo mode after shutting down and you have to reset. I am using the newer Flex now lacking the speakerphone mic but latest firmware. Perhaps the will update with a function memory mode as well as EQ with all the competition on this segment.
