    How did you get that poor resolution out of the medium format? scanned the print instead of the negative? used a flatbed with focusproblems?

    Thanks--- because of this tutorial, I definitely got to go to Ireland! Subsequently I've been watching a lot of landscape tutorials by Thomas Heaton and now I'm falling in love with that particular genre for my photography... wish me luck.

    I noticed a poor battery performance myself initially. But after doing some manual reading, I realized that the Bluetooth and WiFi functions are on by default. Once I turned off these two features or simply placing the camera on airplane mode, the battery life lasted longer than my D810.

      Haha, I still don't know how multi lane roundabouts work. Do you stay in the outer lane only when you are turning off the immediate exit and use the middle lanes when you need to go further than 90 degrees? I seems the easiest way would be to make them all one lane and there isn't the confusion of the two or three lanes.

    At 15:10, what camera did you use to film yourselves? The background was in focus, I hate panasonic AF since they're not that good, looks like you need articulating screen and dual pixel from canon for better self recording vlog footages.

    Re: 13:00 - 14:00 - This comes from Nikon sort of preferring to err on the safe side by showing you the maximum duration of the time-lapse with the current interval and recording duration settings. This means that your actual shutter speed is disregarded in this "safe" calculation and the shutter speed of an infinitesimally short duration is assumed instead. Given that the sequence starts from the word "go", i.e. at 00:00:00 (and not 00:00:01), you'd end up with 61 exposures for the first minute and 5*60=300 exposures for the remaining 5 minutes. In total, this would give you 361 frames, divided by 24 equals 15.0416 seconds. Usually, you'd round the figure down; here, however, Nikon again prefers to give you the maximum by rounding up to the nearest tenth, hence the 15.1 seconds time-lapse. Hope this helps ;-).

    I recently upgraded from a Nikon 810 to the 850. Have you heard or experienced that the ISO settings are different. If I were out on a bright day with my 810 I would be at 100 or lower. With the 850 I might be at 200-250 ISO with the same light. Wondered if this is just the way it is or if there is something I am not doing correctly.

  • @1makalu1
    @1makalu1 6 лет назад +2

    I think i figured out what makes the difference in the videolength Nikon is giving you. You have set the Intervall to 1s and the exposure to 1,6s. What would make sense is that a Photo is taken for 1,6s and the a break of 1s is made and then a foto and so on. However it seems so that Intervall to 1s means that the Camera wants to take a picture after every second and so it plans to take 360 Pictures in six minutes. But because the exposure is 1,6 seconds the second picture can´t be made, because the first one isn´t already finished. Next Intervall and with it the next pic fires after 2s so you end up with 1,6s exposure and 0,4s break and so you end up at round about 7,5s of timelaps video. Funfact: Canon seems to have the same problem and i have absolutly no idea why you would do this like this -.- Hope my english isn´t to bad :)

      Yes, a great review of how arguably the best DSLR ever made compares to a cell phone and film. It was interesting to watch but really sells the camera short when user error/inability fails to do it justice. Would you watch a car review from a 9 year old without their driver's license? He's a very capable photographer but I think he fell short this time. Just my opinion.

    Hi Patrick, liked the vloggy review.!, in time lapse mode I also had similar doubt until I found that interval = shutter speed + time between two shots. So your interval should always be greater than shutter speed ( I feel at least 1 second more) to avoid any time related gliches and buffer issues.

  • @davewarren7693

    So were you using the Sigma lens with stabilization straight out of the box or modified using the dock? just curious since it is adjustable. Every review I read complains about the stabilization of Sigma lenses, but nobody states whether this is with modified settings or unmodified settings. The one reviewer that did test it in all 3 modes did find he preferred a modified setting. And his settings did match the equivalent Nikkor lens in the lowest shutter speed usable.
    Good video. Interesting about the battery since Nikon has introduced a new variation of the battery for the D850.

    • @FStoppers
      @FStoppers  6 лет назад

      We have not modified it at all with the dock (don't think we even have the dock). I just expect a lens to work out of the box but I understand you can get even better performance from small tweaks. Maybe our copy has an older firmware on it? Just never had this issue with another lens straight out of the box.

    • @davewarren7693
      @davewarren7693 6 лет назад

      I can't disagree that Sigma should use a better implementation out of the box. But on the other hand, the dock is part of why one would buy a Sigma or Tamron lens. It gives one the ability to tune a lens and update firmware without sending it back to the manufacturer a la Nikon.
      Plus when the previously mentioned reviewer from my first post tested the Nikon lens he found the VR set to normal was unusable when tracking animals in motion. There was big time lag.

    Pro Tip: When you are in a foreign country on a (possibly) once in a lifetime opportunity to photograph, perhaps don't venture out with a battery that's half depleted and no back up battery on hand. And it would probably help if this is your first time using the camera to have brought the manual. Most modern cameras are pretty intuitive, but I've bumped my head on a feature or two on a new camera every time, and having the manual helps. Especially when doing complex stuff like time lapses.

      None of the timelapses here were taking with stills in interval shooting, they were all taken with video only. I hate making timelapses from stills.

    Eclectic, different, quirky but quite useful video. There are plenty of "straight" or standard review videos, and those are also good, but your content adds value. Thanks.

    A bit different D850 than mostly uploaded on RUclips, but with interesting parts anyway (especially the built in timelapse caught my attention). I am using intervalometers now that are loaded into LR and Quick Time Pro afterwards, so this feature is a big timesaver (you need to grade it only afterwards if needed as videofile). The DR is pretty outstanding for such a high megapixel sensor (and small pixel pitch). For maximum DR if you only want to film in 4K, the Sony A7S II and soon A7S III will still be the king of lowlight ofcourse but the D850 seems like a really good hybrid camera for most situations.

    Your idea about iso 30 and below is a really good suggestion.

    Patrick, can you explain Nikon’s new radio flash system please? Can I still use the D850 to fire my 910 flash by IR as a slave if I use my 600 as the master flash on the camera? Just wondering if I have to now change all my Nikon flash units...

      I honestly haven't owned a speedlight since the SB800. I went Profoto and continued to use my Nikon speedlights and then bought Yongnuos because they were as good and super cheap.

      Yes, Providence to Cork! Super cheap flight and as you can see, we had all the seats to ourselves.

    Great video and nice to see the D850 in action. The one thing I am not blown away by from ANY camera at the moment is high ISO performance. I know you were very happy with it on the D850, but for me it was just typical grainy imagery from about ISO 6400 onwards. Although better than most, still not good enough. This seems to be where manufacturers have hit a technology hurdle. I would love to see a truly clean ISO 6400 and almost clean ISO 12800 and then who cares after that?

    Really good job putting this together! Nikon is back in the game. Look like a good allrounder for travel in all shooting situations, especially low light :)

    The D850 captures flicker-free timelapse direct to the 46mp sensor I suppose like recording video in short intervals. No flicker.
    I got a feeling this is a battery intensive process?
    Can you turn off the live view monitor during time lapse capture?

    • @FStoppers
      @FStoppers  6 лет назад

      Well for the most part, the LCD screen never lights up so I don't think it's drawing much power in general.

      Fstoppers,
      Okay, so the LCD is not expending energy displaying black pixels during the intervals between frame capture. Thanks.

    I'm assuming they keep the screen off during timelapse to save battery power. Ideal would be to have it stay off but have it that you can touch the screen to see what is going on.

    I lived in London for three years. Every evening with music I had with my friends had that song somewhere near the end. Every single one. Which is fine, it's a good song and one that if you sing poorly is still good.
