well .. .I would take Canon ... as all my lenses are Canon compatible ... otherwise I would wait for next Canon model as I like Canon from the user experience point
Dude if u look for specs then a chinese phone will give u a kickass spec....but quality matters. I m not saying that nikon is a Chinese knockoff but a guy buying 3grand dslr would look at his lens collection
end product = great specs + fan-ism ? There's a good reason Canon and Nikon are the two big brand.. and nowadays Nikon is kicking Canon ass so they wake up (or stop their idiot market segmentation). Intel and AMD are doing the same .. some years Intel kicks asses, this year it's AMD.. so goes the market
I'm a Canon user and couldn't agree more. Canon is just not innovating anymore. Their technology is old, they are trying to earn big by ripping off customers. In case of video, people say that Canon doesn't want to affect their cinema camera market by giving good video functionalities in their DSLRs... but Sony has a Cinema camera line too... how are they putting such great specs in their full frame mirrorless cameras for such a comparatively cheaper price? Canon probably needs new managers and marketing analysts.
D850 all day... specs are just better suited to my needs... having said that, I've always had Nikon camera's so the d850 is just the icing on the cake for me 👍
Canon... I have been using a 7D-Mkii for almost 2 years now and am happy with it. Was looking to add a full frame and some new lenses soon but will wait and see if a 5D-Mkv has major upgrades (I suspect it will). I won't bash Nikon because they are definitely pushing the envelope right now, but I have always been suspect of some issues they have had in the past. My brother has a professional video company in Florida and uses 2 5D-Mkiii's for all his work. I asked him if he was gonna upgrade to 4K Video and he said "No way". Too much money to upgrade all of his equipment to edit it, and to this point no customer has ever asked him if he shoots 4K.
I'm a Canon user, and I'll agree, the D850 is a much higher performing camera in almost every category. That being said, the camera that you can use the best/the most fluidly, will yield the best photos for you. I stayed with Canon and got the 5D Mark IV, for a few reasons. (1). I have, and am used to my Canon glass, how it renders how it handles different lighting scenarios etc. (2). I rarely need more than 20-25MP, much less 45. (3). I never shoot video, ever...if it was up to me they would take it out of SLRs and just make the camera lighter and less expensive. and (4). I prefer Canon's default color profiles, yes you can tweak raw to look however you want but that's just another step to add to the workflow. At the end of the day, there are a lot of non-quantitative, quality of life aspects that affect how a camera system handles, and how it influences your workflow. The most important decision is to pick the one that fits yours best so you can continue to enjoy photography and not be bogged down with gear and workflow quirks. Happy shooting everybody!
I agree totally on these companies should take the 'video' aspect, right out of the DSLR! Buy a dedicated video camera for video! These dedicated video cameras are downright low cost items these days, and as you say, adding quality features plus lower weight would be much better!
It's all about enabling you to use the lenses you have already for video as well without spending thousands of dollars extra. I don't use it much either but I like the option. Pros (with enough money) will buy a video camera I think.
CastrejonHDTV Even colors I think depends on what you shoot. Canons seem to have more subtle control over reds but lose a little in Greens. Nikons have great greens, especially when working in Adobe RGB (if I shot landscapes id definitely shoot Nikon)
hmmm... a lot of words. Jarad (aka, 'That Nikon Guy') just said the Canon 5D4 had better 4K video quality than the Nikon D850, and he also said the Canon has superb, market leading AF on video (and live view stills, btw), whereas the D850 has terrible AF during video. Miss focus, and your shot is toast. You Nikon fanboiz crack me up. The other issue not covered here is sports still shot AF. I do know the 5D4 AFs on birds-in-flight really well, if using Canon Glass, and drogonflies in flight down @ the pond should be no problem. Canon excells in this. What about the Nikon, how does it do with Nikon glass ? Most Nikon users in the 3 clubs I'm in seem to use Sigma or Tamron glass (doesnt Nikon make affordable glass ?) and how is the Nikons BIF AF then ? Real world vs specs on paper fanboiz.
Jared, I appreciate your style of reviews and your style of teaching. No BS, no fluff, just the good stuff. Thank you for your dedication and the time you take to make these videos
The Canon Fan boys will like canon...... The Nikon Fan boys will like nikon. Both are great cameras. But at the end of the day,The skill of the photographer matters!!
KingSkib yes but cameras matter too. Take the Nikon for example. With that resolution you can crop a hell of a lot and fix your composition. With that DR you can alter your picture like crazy to fix your lighting. Even a shitty photographer's photos can be improved by the D850 and photoshop.
Zaber Ansary These comparisons are kinda pointless because of this. As a beginner you shouldn't buy this anyway (or go for it if you have shittons of money and don't know what to do with it). If you are in a position to buy a cam like these you'll buy the one you have the lenses for anyways
tolga1cool I wouldn’t say they are pointless, handy for people moving up to full frame. When I went full frame i switched systems completely. Vids like these were handy.
I love talking specs; srsly, I am a gearhead. When I baught my first DSLR I was checking facts and statistics what to buy. At this time it was only Canon vs Nikon, so I went to the store and tried both. The user interface / menu system and the Overall handling was the breaking point for me. What are the benefits of technical surpremacy when I don't like the camera as a tool? I went with Canon, I am invested in a sh**load of L- lenses and stuff. I see the aspects of a Sony A7R ii, Nikon D850... But I don't want to change, the features of other cameras don't make mine worst. The 5dIV is a great cam, and in real life some of my favorite shots were taken with a 70D, a 6D or even my old 1000D. And nobody looked ever at my wall and asked me what camera i used for this or that photo.
I just bought D850 and it is great. My skill is lacking miles behind. But if you consider shooting videos more than photos, I would still recommend 5D4 because of the focus system in video mode. If you use a rig and focus follower all the time, I guess the difference in focus system does not make a difference any more. At that point, I will go with D850.
Christos Phillippou Canon had been lately checking up patience of it's users. It should realize that it's rivals are really bringing good products at much competitive prices.
Buy the one you want to buy; your customers won't care. No one will stop you and say: "Your burst rate was a bit low on this fantastic shot!" or "Let me compare your shots, to someone who shot the same event on the rival system". One camera does not destroy the other, in fact in the real world, one has absolutely no bearing on the works of the other, unless you are using both at the same time, and like to make visual comparisons; which of course no one does in the real world. At the end of the day, it's your money, there's no right or wrong; choose the one you want, and go take some nice pictures. To be fair, I think this is Fro's conclusion; could have just said that from the get go.
I bought my daughter a Nikon D750 last year and myself a Mark IV just the other day (used, still hasn't made it here yet). I have always used Canon (over 30 years) which is why I went with it but I love my daughters D750 and steal it all the time. That's a great camera. I would love to try that 850. But hopefully my Mark IV which I haven't got to use yet doesn't stink as bad as this review seemed to make it. I just have always loved Canon menus and overall ease of use plus have too much glass to throw away. I've wanted a mark iv since it came out but the prices were always too high.
Nikon has been ahead on their sensors for years. When the D3 and D300 were released Canon fell behind and stayed there. But they battled back with excellent feature-sets that kept them competitive, even if the Nikon IQ was a bit better. But with the D850 Nikon simply went crazy and nailed it. Best DSLR in the world, which is saying a LOT because all of the DSLRs out there are great. The D850 can do it all and leads in almost every area.
I could watch hundreds of these videos, but in the end Nikon always "feels" better. I know, this is not a very substantial opinion, but that's the way it is.
Right conclusion Jared !It depends on what gear you have already. In my case - there´s no option to switch to Nikon due to (too) many canon glass. Of course the Nikon D850 is the better camera in summary.
Then why is that a reason to hate Fuji? The X-T2 is arguably the best APS-C camera on the market right now. I shot full frame for years before I switched to Fuji (the most recent being the Nikon D750) and don't miss full frame at all. Full frame doesn't offer that much over APS-C these days. The difference in a lot of cases is negligible.
The d850 is still sold out everywhere, I am trying to find somewhere to order one from and so far only one website says they have it in stock, I just hope its true
If I were starting again, I would likely go with the Fuji XT2. I had the chance to try this Camera and I was smiling from ear to ear with it. It is the only camera I have tried whose ergonomics match Canon for comfort and usability (speaking for myself). The picture and colour quality is also excellent- even the jpegs with the film simulations are superb. I will be adding the Fuji as a second system next year. Between the two in the video, As I said in my main comment in Jared's pinned post. I had the chance to jump to Nikon but chose to stay with Canon and I'm happy with my decision.
They are both great cameras...as a Canon 5D4 owner I can only say I am more than happy with my camera. The D850 is an awesome camera and only help keep the competition (Canon) on their toes. That way Canon don't fall to sleep.
Nikon are not using Expeed 5, Jared. but Toshiba Cortex M4F 100 Mhz (Image Processor). D850 using Toshiba Engines, thats why its a great camera. _(TOSHIBA is the creator of the mighty 41Mp Nokia Lumia Camera many years ago)_
I have a D850 and a D500. I use back-button focusing on both. With regards to the switching from continuous to single and back again, this can easily be done by assigning this function to this function, which I have done and switching is a joy. Also, one finds that shooting in 46 MP has its shortcomings like you say, it is very simple to change to a lower res in the menu of the D850. Thus, delete the two checks from the Canon and call it a draw.
I never use continuous focus for video, much prefer rack focusing. The D850 has focus peaking, which is very helpful if the depth of field is very shallow. Great video Jared.
I already have the 5d kit. But if I had to start over I would still go with the canon this time. Yes the Nikon is awesome if your gonna maximize the features. I still value the Canon service center. And my previous canon cameras and lenses have been flawless. I used the service center due to my own fault. I need the continuous video focus. 30 mp is plenty for me. 99% of my images are viewed on my iPad. My $8k canon kit is just fine. The equivalent Nikon kit would cost $10k. I won’t see a $2k image quality increase with the Nikon.
Jared Thank you for the excellent comparison between the Nikon D850 vs the Canon 5D Mark 4. I have used Nikon cameras for years. You gave me the information I need to continue using Nikon!
CANON guy here over 40 years. So I have to go where the glass is. But you nail this! Love your content. And I have to agree with that wind tunnel test too. ALWAYS refer beginner's to your channel. Thanks! You do not disappoint!
Really love MyGearVault - so thanks for that. I think manufacturers need to lower their pricing faster if they have long production cycles. The Canon is already a year old, and shouldn't be priced the same as a brand new Nikon with newer features. They should lower by at least 15% each year. That would teach a lesson to the manufacturers as well - don't wait 4-5 years between models! I'm a Canon shooter, but I wouldn't buy the Mark IV. I also wouldn't get the 5DSR at this time. I think it's worth waiting for Canon's response to all the great products that came out this past year, i.e. Sony A9 and Nikon D850. But it drives me crazy to see how many people jump ship from one manufacturer to another just because of the latest shiny thing.
This is SUCH a hard choice for me. You told me exactly what I need to do at 12:36 - you said, "If you're somebody that's shooting video and you need continuous autofocus, you're going with the Canon." That's ME. But the fact that it uses old technology worries me because I don't plan to upgrade for another 4 years or so. Am I making the wrong choice since it doesn't have all the latest technology? Or does that even matter if my main problem is that I need a camera that can focus really well? I have a RUclips channel and I'm a one-woman show. I have had plenty of shots ruined because my Nikon D7100 just doesn't focus. Hmmmm.......
I'm a Nikon shooter but like the honesty you gave about both cameras but I already own two Nikon's but they are old model but looking forward to upgrade one of my bodies and I'm thinking to get that 850 in the future.
The specs don't lie, but that being said there is a lot more to a camera than what is on paper. At this end of the gear scale you are going to be getting most of your performance out of knowing your gear, having good lenses and knowing your way around your chosen body.
D850 all the way on this one. Just real comfy when it comes to my Nikon! It would be a different outcome if it were the 1DX even being a Nikon shooter!
Back in 2003 there wasn't much choices when it came to DSLRs. Canon Rebel 300D was a great camera, but just short after Nikon released the D70. It was better in most cases but also more expensive. I spent the extra cash and went for Nikon. Almost 20 years later i still use Nikon, but are looking in to filming too. So it's an easy choice for me to go for the D850 if i can get it at a good price. Well done review as always
Currently, you could not get the D850 if you wanted it due to supply issues. It is a great camera, but the 5D MK IV is not too shabby. The only thing is I wish Canon would stop using the anti-alias filter. Other than that, if you never saw the specs on either camera, I believe most of us would be happy with either one. Myself included, I wonder if we get hung up on specs instead of our skills. When the D810 came out, Canon responded a few months later with the 5DS and 5DS/R. I have to believe that Canon will announce and/or have available upgrades to these cameras within a few months. Cant see going wrong with either camera. Don't see the cost justification of selling one system to switch to another because of the 5d MK IV. Unless Canon really drops the ball with their next high pixel upgrade, don't see I real need to switch. Either way, I see both as great choices with an edge to Nikon at this time until the next Canon upgrade. Remember, Nikon was being knocked a few months ago and they came out with the great D850. Lets see how Canon responds.
Agreed about the AA filter. I think it's safe to say that the camera world has moved on. The benefits to not having one now outweigh any advantages in having one.
Thanks for the comparison, Jared! A slam dunk for Nikon, but you still went too easy on Canon!!! 1) 45mp vs. 30mp is HUGE. Just because you don't always need more megapixels doesn't mean the cameras should be considered equal. There are some people who really do need more megapixels. And the ability of your computer should not be considered when looking at camera specs. 2) 64 ISO vs. 100 ISO is important as well! When shooting outside in the bright sun, that little bit really helps with strobes. And the dynamic range is better at 64. Tip: Jared - You should set the AF ON button to focus lock. I leave autofocus in Continuous, use the shutter button to activate focus and shoot, then press the AF ON button to lock focus when needed. Much easier than switching back and forth between Continuous and Single autofocus.
I think he went easy on the Canon because he looks past the spec sheet. Honestly is the final image, once its been processed, really any better ? If the final product is enough of a difference where the average Joe could tell the difference then I would say Nikon is clearly better. Unless someone is a photographer just shooting for other photographers approval likes.
Dan, I tested personally the D810 vs the D850 with the Zeiss 135, and unless you print wall size you won't see a difference. The D850 seems to get the WB accurately in 90% of shots (the D810 sometimes needs a bit of post for the WB). 30 or 36 mp is not that dramatic of a difference from the 45 as you may think (12-15% difference). And unless you use a tripod and high shutter speed, you have more chances not shaking it with the D850 (double the focal lens rule...). The details may not be distinguishable, but the shaking is! I tried it on a trip - both cameras, my daughter had the D810. Not to mention diffraction - the D850 limits the aperture range one full stop in terms of diffraction. If you have a really sharp lens, you'll get better corners and the same center with the D810 at f/16 (!!!). And you'll be like "whaaaat". Yup.
45 vs 30 MP is not huge. Just look at how many percent more pixels you have in one dimension. It would be huge if it would be factor 2x in pixel width or more. But then it would be at least 120 MP on the Nikon side.
Exactly. It's not so linear and simple as people think it is. 10 vs 25mp for instance, is huge, because it's 150% increase in pixel count. That's why even the jump from 13 to 21 from 5D to 5D mark2 was big back in the day. But now we came to a point of diminishing returns, 45mp is 50% increase in pixel count, which is already a way smaller jump, and the increase in actual image size isn't that huge. Sure, some people will find the difference useful, but for most people, that really shouldn't be a deal-breaker. Not that long ago (until 5Ds showed up), D800 was the MP king and the mark IV is now only 6mp shy off D800's 36mp. I guess we got really spoiled :)
I watched this video 4 hours ago... Half way, I turned off my Laptop, went downtown and bought Nikon D850 and just returned and posting this news here. Thanks for guiding me.
That battery grip deal on the d850 was an excellent choice by their team in terms of marketing. It creates a clean upgrade path by requiring you to buy the d5 battery/charger! Both companies are great, but Canon has to step it up a notch in that and the memory cards.
I would go for the Nikon D850. My girlfriend and I shoot weddings, I own a D750,, she owns a D610. It would be a magnificent upgrade from the D610 to the D850 for her. I probably wouldn't have to wash the dishes for about half a year either! So it's a win win :)
Seeing all the features of the D850 makes me wonder what Canon is doing all day long. The Mark IV came out barely a year ago and is WAY behind the new Nikon! It's like they're sabotaging themselves!
I'd say the Nikon seems better for photos and video, BUT I have used Canon and I have used Nikon, the Nikon DSLRs have a very confusing messed up UI... Also yes, the autofocus of the Nikon one is its weak point... Now if you can live with those two, then go and buy the Nikon since it's actually better, especially in video, but let me tell you that using Canon is a less stressful way of doing things.
Terrific video. You take the spec sheets for each camera, write them on a piece of cardboard and recite them back. Added value is next to nil. But, judging by the number of views, there are plenty of people out there who cannot compare two spec sheets on their own. So I guess there is a market for this kind of "expertise". Keep up what you're doing and I'll also get back to what I was doing before wasting 10 minutes of my life on this.
but pentax won by far on the sensor side (for half of the price) : dynamic range, high iso, colors ... which put Canon in a ridiculous situation when you think it's about taking photo in first place :D But shooting in focus fake 4K might have interest, I won't say opposite
I watched a few videos about this 850 and QXD and it was getting no where close to the buffer claims... Much closer to 20(ish)

Nikon man all my life and the D850 clearly a great camera. My Nio9n D610 has served me well. Nikon support has been excellent. But Canon has superior Tilt Shift Lenses and the Phenomenal 11-24 full frame zoom. Maybe I will own both.
I have to go with Canon since all my lenses are Canon brand even though I like some of the features that the Nikon D850 has but the Canon Mark IV lacks. Maybe I'll wait for Mark V.
Canon's biggest problem for me is lens Sharpness Consistency. I shoot with both the Canon 5D Mark 3 and Nikon D850. D850 in focus 100% of the time. The canon is not. I just think Nikon s Glass is a lot better. People always talk about the camera but the glass is more important. This is where the Nikon is always the winner for stills and for the Canon user's who tried Nikon and you couldn't get your color right it because Nikon has a much deeper color science. I can make my images look exactly like Canon images. I just love both systems so I will always have both. I have adapter where I can use Nikon Lenses on Canon. I also don't do moving subjects so this is not a issue. If you have a lot of money invested in Canon Glass. Then the winner is Canon for you.
When was the Canon introduced vs. this Nikon? Maybe this might be an anwer to differences... About lenses: Canon wins hands down; certainly concidering their latest new-ones. Just my 2 cnts.
As a Canon user from film: F1N to 80D and many lenses, including 70-200ii, Nikon D850 wins hands down. I wish Canon lenses were compatible with Nikon bodies. I don't mind switching, not a fanboy, I like good tech and value for my $$ simple as that.
I'd like to take photos so my choice would be Nikon D850. It's definitely good comparation review. I'd like to suggest you to add background music to make it more enjoyable. Thanks
I have been holding off on this decision, but the wind tunnel test tilted to scales for me. Ordering the Canon 5d Mk IV! Do I wish the Canon had some of the 850 features? Absolutely! But none of them are compelling enough to get me to switch from Canon at my level of skills and with so much invested in Canon glass. It would be nice to have the additional megapixels for certain shots, but would not want to handle that many massive files for most photos I take - 30 megapixels is probably just about right for me. If megapixels were the main factor, I would get the 5Dsr. Backlit buttons and tilt screen would be nice, but honestly have never had a need for either and I can always control from iPad on those rare occasions. Great fair and balanced review IMO.
Hi Jared, I like your work and thanks for sharing your knowledge. I have a question. Now that Nikon come up with the Mirrorless DSLR, do you think they'll still make the mirrorred cameras such as a D850 replacement. Thank you for your time.
For video I'd still prefer the look that Canon gives over the Nikon. Canon's color science engineers do a great job. I just wish Canon would actually upgrade their technology, like putting in newer and faster card slots.
Im sitting here all like " I'm just happy with my Canon 80D", maybe if i can make money with this camera i can upgrade in the future but im happy learning . love your videos Jared, thank you for it all!
The successor of the 5D IV, namely the EOS R had even lower specs than the 5D IV. The R5 was the camera which punched things forward. But when I looked at the prices in this video and at the R5 price when launched…
If you want to shoot video, just activate the function of the rig and the focus follower. It’s like an auto focus on its main competitor. It can also shoot an 8K video. On this case, it’s game over, NIKON D850 wins.
Hey man...! Thanks for the video!! You spoke about only specs..! But what about the color producing these two nice cameras? Which one is better? Don't underestimate this feature! What would you say? Cheers.
You can pick either the D850 or the 5D Mari IV, which do you choose and why?
Jared Polin hey Jared Thnks for your videos.......
❤ From Pakistan
The one Jared would give away :p
D850.. because of ISO performance and no crop video
well .. .I would take Canon ... as all my lenses are Canon compatible ... otherwise I would wait for next Canon model as I like Canon from the user experience point
i bought the 5d because i'm a canon user, but the nikon is a great camera
I will go with the Nikon D850 anytime
I know you're trying to be objective but come on...the D850 is crushing the 5DM IV.

I am sorry but not all about skill, camera and lenses matters as well.
I'm a Canon fan, but I say that Nikon is Beast Mode yo.
It is true! Fanboys just love having and playing with cameras like toys instead of doing art.
Most of them cant make good picture even if their life depended on it so it dont matter what camera is used..
Pretty Simple, If you are a Canon shooter, don't buy a D850 lol, wont fit your lenses...
Zaber Ansary These comparisons are kinda pointless because of this. As a beginner you shouldn't buy this anyway (or go for it if you have shittons of money and don't know what to do with it).

Maybe not pointless. But if you are gonna drop 3000+ on a cam you should know what you're getting into imho
tolga1cool yeah you are right there, I owned canon, Nikon and Sony Apsc cameras before going FF.
LOL!!
And nobody looked ever at my wall and asked me what camera i used for this or that photo.
didn't age well
Why am i seeing this? I dont even have $50 in my pocket :(
You probably got more than me though ...
Holla from Kolkata m8, paying a $50/month EMI for my D5300 lmao
Chief ReusTATOR khub bhalo m8 😁 I think of saving a years income from now to get a full frame.
Which one are you gonna get? I wanna trade the D5300 for a D500 in a couple of years when I get bored of it
I don't even have a pocket
I just bought D850 and it is great. My skill is lacking miles behind. But if you consider shooting videos more than photos, I would still recommend 5D4 because of the focus system in video mode. If you use a rig and focus follower all the time, I guess the difference in focus system does not make a difference any more. At that point, I will go with D850.
Nasty wake up call for Canon, excellent presentation Jared, always great uploads, kudos.
The heavy weight championship! I'll go for the Nikon by the way
I could watch hundreds of these videos, but in the end Nikon always "feels" better. I know, this is not a very substantial opinion, but that's the way it is.
Right conclusion Jared !It depends on what gear you have already. In my case - there´s no option to switch to Nikon due to (too) many canon glass. Of course the Nikon D850 is the better camera in summary.
I dont know who the better
The only thing I know is I can not afford both of it.
Uddy Effect you mean afford
me too
I will go for D850 as I am a Nikon Shooter and this is the one which i would want to add in my army of cameras to get good business. Thanks Jared.
Nikon is running alone in this race
@@mikezupancic2182 What Canon lens would a Nikon user want?
even before (now Fuji-Guy) i was a canon"guy" but hands down Nikon on this.
Tomas Nilsén I hate Fuji because they're not freaking full frame.
Do you hate every camera that's not full frame, then? Seems a bit unreasonable.
KentuckyMan30 No, I don't.
There is a reason the Nikon D850 is sold out EVERYWHERE and there are plenty of Canon 5D MKIV's in stock anywhere.
TheArmedRN lol I see why you say that?
The d850 is still sold out everywhere, I am trying to find somewhere to order one from and so far only one website says they have it in stock, I just hope its true
Supply & demand.
There’s more canon mkiv being made bc ppl buy them more. (:
D850 all day. The 5DM4 has a very inefficient video codec.
+Michael Scott thanks man.
I continue to be impressed by how impartial that you are in these reviews.
Truly the most honest person out here. My go to for all.
If you are not going to upgrade for years, you can afford to rent each for a week and test them out.
Did you finally upgrade your camera?) I have D7100 too now
I'm a Nikon shooter but like the honesty you gave about both cameras but I already own two Nikon's but they are old model but looking forward to upgrade one of my bodies and I'm thinking to get that 850 in the future.
It would be a different outcome if it were the 1DX even being a Nikon shooter!
thanks jared! u know how long i was waiting for a real comparison between these two. i’m getting the Nikon.
Not a contest, not a battle, but the Nikon
I see myself using d850 for the next 5 years...but not the canon...at least nikon is trying to hear their customers...not like fuji but they try
great job bro!!! still waiting for my d-850 from B&H..
The benefits to not having one now outweigh any advantages in having one.
the wind tunel test convinced me
Thanks for the comparison, Jared!
I don't like shooting in that mode.
To me, a great focusing system is the key to great pics. On that note, Canon for me.
Your videos are excellentlly helpful, you don't miss any minute detail. Thanks
Jared, thanks for a decent comparison and review. It is all a matter of taste and habit but the now Nikon seems definitely better.
Thanks Jared for the review you made the choice a lot simpler, the Canon it is !!

I watched this video 4 hours ago... Half way, I turned off my Laptop, went downtown and bought Nikon D850 and just returned and posting this news here. Thanks for guiding me.
I believe most of us will go with the brand that they invest in lenses...so once I am a Nikon I will stay with Nikon
I would like them both...but I do own the 5D4 and I am quite happy with it.
Hi Jared, you also forget the focus peaking. Little thing, just good for videos, old AI/AI-S lenses, and should be added on DSLRs for many years.
I’ve been waiting so long for this comparison ‼️
Well Done
I went with the D3X, D810 and finally D850. Superb cameras and lenses.
That battery grip deal on the d850 was an excellent choice by their team in terms of marketing. It creates a clean upgrade path by requiring you to buy the d5 battery/charger! Both companies are great, but Canon has to step it up a notch in that and the memory cards.
I bought a Wasabi charger. There is no way I'm paying $300 for a charger.
Nice tips. I'm a Nikon fan, but I believe the superior video recording ability in Cannon outweighs many other shortcomings.
Today bought Canon 5D mark 4 and started to worry, good thing I need it for videos. In the future I’ll get Leica for photos
I would go for the Nikon D850. My girlfriend and I shoot weddings, I own a D750,, she owns a D610. It would be a magnificent upgrade from the D610 to the D850 for her. I probably wouldn't have to wash the dishes for about half a year either! So it's a win win :)
As ALWAYS, very helpful! Some of the most enjoyable and relevant content for photographers on RUclips!
Seeing all the features of the D850 makes me wonder what Canon is doing all day long. The Mark IV came out barely a year ago and is WAY behind the new Nikon! It's like they're sabotaging themselves!
There's a reason the d3500 blows the 80d out of the water for photo
Nikon>canon
I would pick the D850 because of the spec and my current investment in Nikon products.
Great comparison between two great camera's! Answers a few questions I had. Thank you...
Great review! I think i will go with the
Kodak Star 635
No contest: the D850 wins.
Nikon wins the missed focus during video comp.
... wins the worst AF on video contest... no wait... Pentax might be leading here.
but pentax won by far on the sensor side (for half of the price) : dynamic range, high iso, colors ... which put Canon in a ridiculous situation when you think it's about taking photo in first place :D
But shooting in focus fake 4K might have interest, I won't say opposite
Wins doesn't really say it very well. How about the Canon got shot down and pissed on. That's a little more accurate.
Consider A7RIII .. amzn.to/2LrsaBt
Nikon has finally caught up with touch screen focus.
I am a professional Canon user with one great lens and one mediocre lens. Is it worth the added expense to convert to Nikon for the D850?
I'm a Canon guy with lots of glass, yet I drool over the D850
I've been a Canon shooter from the 3megapixel PowerShot days. I currently have a T7 but would switch to the D850 over the Mark4 any day
When was the Canon introduced vs. this Nikon? Maybe this might be an anwer to differences...
About lenses: Canon wins hands down; certainly concidering their latest new-ones.
Just my 2 cnts.
good explanation thanks!.
That camera did you use for recording the video?
Finally which one better camera Nikon or canon????
As a Canon user from film: F1N to 80D and many lenses, including 70-200ii, Nikon D850 wins hands down. I wish Canon lenses were compatible with Nikon bodies. I don't mind switching, not a fanboy, I like good tech and value for my $$ simple as that.
I'd like to take photos so my choice would be Nikon D850. It's definitely good comparation review. I'd like to suggest you to add background music to make it more enjoyable. Thanks
Nice video !!! 👊👍👏👍👍 what did u camera and lens did you film your video with ? so sharp ?
Thanks Jared for your videos!
You made me buy D850 and I'm quite happy,🤗😍، Your videos are very helpful, Thank you very much
Nikon D850’s !!! At least I don’t choose a camera by Blowing it.
Great review Jared. Thanks
I see the Canon 5D Mark iv has gone down price during the holidays and suspect it will stay at the sale price, what do you think?
I don't agree. The Atlas of Beauty was shoot with Canon 5D Mark III and Canon 5D Mark IV and thouse portraits are AMAZING!
If you want to shoot video, just activate the function of the rig and the focus follower. It’s like an auto focus on its main competitor. It can also shoot an 8K video. On this case, it’s game over, NIKON D850 wins.
Sir I have a question I'm Going to buy a new camera I'm total confused between Nikon D5600 & Canon 77D which should I buy?
Hey man...! Thanks for the video!! You spoke about only specs..! But what about the color producing these two nice cameras? Which one is better? Don't underestimate this feature! What would you say? Cheers.
