Meet the 3 Pitchers Who Threw “Unofficial” Perfect Games

- Hey everyone!
Perfect games are one of the most rare feats in sports. Every pitcher's dream is to throw one. However, there are a few pitchers who essentially did throw one, but they are considered "unofficial" perfect games for one reason or another. So, I hope you guys enjoy the video! And thank you to everyone who has subscribed from my recent video with SRS and from my Craig Kimbrel video.

Great vid! Very cool deepdive into a unique subject
MLB thanks MLB!

Give Armando Galarraga His Perfect Game
Musty Chicken relax, go watch a better sport
Give it it armondo
Armando Gallaraga’s unofficial perfect game is one of the stains on mlb’s legacy.
That and not letting black people play until the 1940s
as well as the ‘17-19 astros
That's a little dramatic.

Bob Jones I mean they couldn’t even use the same facilities anywhere until the 1960s
You missed one unofficial perfect game: On March 14, 2000, in a spring training game, 6 red sox pitchers combined to throw a perfect game against the blue jays for a 5-0 win.
Yes, but that was a combined perfect game and it was in spring training, so it doesn't mean as much. It's still an accomplishment though.
@@markrappaport6060 combining for a perfect game doesn't make it any less of one, but spring training works too
@Herbie VersaillesOne of the many reasons he's the goat
Zzz spring training ZZZZZ
@@RC.41Cynic.
In the Harvey Haddix game, Joe Adcock hit a three run homer to win the game for the braves BUT the runner on first walked off the field when the winning run scored from third. So Adcock passed the runner on first going to third base and was out for doing so. Thus his 3-run homer was only a 1-run double.
First perfect game Umpired by the one and only, Foghorn Bradley
The chart of historical MLB feats shows 2 Home runs in same inning by the same player has been done 54 time. But it should have showed the probability of one player hitting two grand slams in the same inning off the same pitcher. Done once by Fernando Tatis Sr. This historical feat will never ever be done again. That feat would be interesting for a video 😁
Enrique Reyes I think that was in the chart but because of how improbable that is, it was way towards the bottom of the full graphic
@@SportStorm23 it was not, unfortunately
Great video !
Can't believe no one else is commenting on your comment.
Milt Pappas, early 70's for the Cubs, had a perfect game ruined on a 3-2 pitch to the 27'th hitter that was called a ball...it was clearly a strike.
thats something that must make you wanna just throw up right on the mound especially if its an obvious strike that doesnt get called
The pitch wasn't even close, let alone "clearly" a strike. ruclips.net/video/sDmrvv-gjHs/видео.html
It is possible that Blue botched a called third strike earlier in the at bat, though.
@@digitalmojave in a perfect game, 27th hitter, 3-2 count...it was very close, caught the front left side of the plate...if it was just off...nobody takes that pitch unless they were fooled...ring him up.
@@rickywarner7444 I contest that you should throw a strike and only ring em up on an actual strike. Not close enough. It's Pappas' fault for depending on Blue's sympathy.
It's rare to see a perfect game or no-hitter that have gone into extra innings. It's only been done 14 times. But thoughout the Pirates' franchise history, they've been involved in four. The first being in 1906, the next being Harvey Haddix's game vs the Braves, the third being one tossed by Francisco Corvoa, and the last being in 2017 with Rich Hill.
Hill's, to me is the most interesting game in recent baseball history. He was pitching a perfect game through 8, and a no hitter though 9. The Dodgers had four guys with ERA's under 3 in their bullpen, and instead of pulling Hill out of the game for the 10th inning, the Dodgers decided to let him go. With the way most starting pitchers are used today, and how often teams go with deep bullpens, it's probably the last time we'll ever see a guy start the game, and still be pitching as they go into extra innings. It was a perfect storm for Hill because he was under 100 pitches going into the 10th.
Noah Wright I’ll definitely talk about Hill later, I found his case while make this video
I clicked on this video, watched the whole thing, and I liked it. I look at the channel, less than 5k subs. The quality of this video is that of a channel 100x your size. Im shocked. Good job!
I subscribed to this channel before it had 1k subs. I just knew it was odd with such good content, so I'm glad it's growing.
I think you should do a video on perhaps the most improbable game in MLB history - the double no-hitter of Fred Toney and Hippo Vaughn. Or perhaps as part of a video on best pitching duels ever.
Zach Wilkens interesting, I’ll look into that
When you mention 23 at the beginning of the video, I thought of Lou Gehrig's record for grand slams--it stood for 75 years.
There should be a new designation for these things, like “perfect 9” or “no-hit 9” to indicae when a pitcher goes the full 9 allowing no hits. This seems to be even rarer than an actual no-hitter though, so maybe it’s not worth the trouble. I’d hate to see these accomplishments lost to time simply because we didn’t have a name for them so they could be easily tracked.
I know this doesn't count as a perfect game but one year when John Lackey was on the Angels, he was making a start in Oakland I believe where he gave up a lead-off double and then retired the next 27 batters to win the game.
Haddix's game is arguably the most dominant pitching performance of all time
i watched scherzer’s no hitter that should have been a perfect game live
Scherzer’s and Kershaw’s perfectos that got ruined make me sad
Jose tabata is forever a scumbag
ikr, batter clearly leaned into the pitch
Awesome. I love this kind of insight. Subscribed
My great uncle was Ernie Shore and I do believe that he didn’t get a perfect game but he did get very close to a perfect game.
You screwed LeBlanc. Also LOL @ "Everyone except Hank Aaron used the signs."
While not a perfect game Andy Hawkins throwing a no hitter through 8 innings, but picking up a loss because the Yankees couldn't score a run in the 9th to at least tie the game is a unique situation.
babe rute played with the red sox that crazy
Pretty sure this also happened to Rich Hill in 2017. I expected to see him in this video since it was so recent, but I love how your content goes outside the box constantly
Great video, glad this popped up in my recommended. You're on the come-up kid!
The tricky thing about asking if a pitcher retired more than 27 batters, even in relief, would it be considered a perfect game is that the word 'game' I think screws things up. If by definition a perfect outing meant retiring 27 batters, then it would be possible for a relief pitcher to do so.. or for a starter to throw a perfect outing even if the game went into extras. Because its a perfect game it really seems like the game should be over after 27 outs..or if it goes into extras then a team who retired every batter should win.
The closest ive ever come to seeing a perfect game/no hitter live was when Rich Hill give up a walkoff home run to Josh Harrison (i think) after 9 innings of no hit ball.
Great vid man, keep doing what you're doing!
5:54 that was the EXACT SAME DAY my parents got married! Same year too!
Kinda reminds me of Shelby Miller who gave up a first pitch single then went 27 straight
I'd say Harvey Haddix' outing is the greatest single-game performance by a pitcher.
definetly, 36 consecutive batter
@@gopher6532 👍
Koji Uehara for the Red Sox in 2013 streaked together 11 perfect innings in relief.
The channel is underrated
Would love to see a tier list on best team front office / owner. I haven't seen any RUclipsrs do this subject despite how much this impacts the team.
Rich hill took a perfect game into the 10th inning, and in the 10th gave up a walk off homerun....
Great video! Keep it up.
Gotta love this channel
Do a hall of fame case on Johan Santana
Maybe Wade LeBlanc will... after all, you only need to be great for one game to be remembered in this way. (Similar story for Adcock on July 31, 1954, as he hit four home runs and a double to set a then-record with 18 total bases.)
Galaraga through a perfect game that day
it still pisses me off. He was out by an entire step
What about Kerry Wood? Was that the kids name? That was the greatest game I've ever seen pitched, and it was marred by an error called an infield hit IIRC.
It should have been a no-hitter. That was clearly an error by the 3B. He also hit Biggio with a pitch in the middle innings, but those were the only baserunners. One of the most dominating pitching performances I've ever seen.
What about Rich Hill who lost his perfect game in the 8th and lost the game on a walk off in the 10th
Here before 1,000,000 subs🤙🏼
I haven't even seen the video yet, but I'm guessing the three pitchers are Milt Pappas, Armando Galarraga, and Max Scherzer. (EDIT: Never mind, I misinterpreted the title.)
I thought Max Scherzer too
But we really wanted Delino DeSheilds
that crazy babe rute played with red sox and yannkes to theynhate each other
Galaragas game was a perfect game and it needs changed to a perfect game officially. It wasn't the 27th batter that broke it up it was the damn umpire. I'm an Indians fan. Watched the game and I was disgusted by that call. It's every fans dream to see a perfect game live on TV or in person. Regardless if it's against your team or not. Well I watched one that evening. The umpire screwed galaraga and it needs to be set right for him and for baseball.
I've never even witnessed a no-hitter start to finish on TV. The year after they changed the rule to 9 innings I saw a Red Sox pitcher lose a game while throwing 8 no hit innings, but a couple walks and I think an error, and no Red Sox run production, and the other team didn't have to bat in the 9th.
You should do a video about José Reyes’s hof case
Armando Gallaraga DID throw a perfect game, but it was taken away from him due to an umpire's deliberate blown call.
Idk if you’re taking suggestions but you should do a hof case on Curtis granderson, I’d like to hear your opinion
good stuff. also you sound like neal brennan
Rip Rich Hill
That explains the reasoning as to why Rich Hill in 2017 didn't get even an "unofficial" perfect game. I still have the opinion, if your pitcher is perfect, do everything you can to get that win for them.
world series baseball 98 for sega saturn. imo most realistic game ever made. anywyas i played i dk 20 full seasons at least lol. had 1 perf game. Maybe had handfull of no hitters but really dont remember. Most memorable gaming experience i had was playing that game. I never had a 400 batting avg season as i recall. i mean it was hard to get hits, homers etc.
I threw 6 consecutive perfect games in school
Usually the best pitchers don't get a perfect game going. They challenge hitters too often, because they believe they win every time. I could see Gerrit Cole throwing a couple of no.hitters in his career, but I don't think he would ever be cautious enough to throw a perfect game. He is (in my opinion) clearly the best pitcher in the game today and I enjoy watching every pitch he throws. When he is painting corners at 99, with some backdoor action...UNHITTABLE
That game was against the Raptors if anyone was wondering and is the 2nd most points ever scored by one player.
You missed Andy Hawkins. I think it was just a no hitter but still one of the most debated pitching performances. The only pitcher to throw a no hitter and still lose by 4 runs. That's 80s era Yankee baseball for you. Poor Mattingly
5:56 Ayyyeeee that’s lit only because that’s My Birthday & I just turn One not that anybody cares 🤣🤣🤣
Anyway to anybody that’s watching this remember y’all, Keep Going & Be Safe 🤟🏾💯
what is a 6 hit game? and why is it on this chart? what significant about it?
"Umpired by: Foghorn Bradley" lol
27 perfect games actually
What about scherzer vs pirates
I think you should do a video on Kenny Lofton. He’s an interesting player with a good HOF case, but will likely not get in.
Pedro must have been so pissed at his teammates bats that day......
Is Tony Hingecliffe narrating?
I used to highly doubt Babe Ruth's title of the GOAT. It was my perception that Babe Ruth had this monstrous prime with a long decline, being quickly overtaken by Gehrig. Nope. Not the case. Ruth's WAR+ and OPS+ are God-tier. Bonds is the only one really close on OPS+. Apparently, The Bambino stayed in shape by hanging out with his estranged wife on a farm one off-season. Bonds just ate a healthy breakfast.
Looking at the other perspective, Had Joyce not botched Gallaraga’s perfect game, we wouldn’t all have remembered it. Nor would there be replay review.
I remember i talked to bip roberts and he said knowbody has ever asked him that question about breaking up a perfect game
im pretty sure rich hill threw 9 perfect innings in like 2017 i was watching
5:50 what’s the game score?
How can you call a game that featured a walk "perfect"? Just a no - hitter
How about the 20 strikeout club
Before watching: Ernie Shore, Armando Galarraga, and Milt Pappas
Dang I only got Shore ;-,
Galarraga's perfect game was broken up by the umpire, not the batter.
Giolito almost got one last night
4 PERFECT HAME ROBBED
Tigers fan here. No Jim Joyce, no!
Yadier Molina HOF case?
Wait didn’t Rich Hill throw an unofficial perfect game against the pirates in 2017?
robberonbrent that’s a story for another video
Haha heard. Btw I think it’s a crime you aren’t more well known in the baseball content community. I honestly put your videos on par with Foolish Baseball’s content.
CC Sabathia 2008 Milwaukee 1 Hit *error no call
Didn't Randy Johnson throw an unofficial perfect game too?
I’ve just started watching your videos and was wondering if you could make a video on Jason Kendall. Personally I believe he is one of the most underrated catchers in the game and wanted to know your thoughts on his career
24 now
Wow it said Worcester was the first perfect game that's were im from cool!
Lol I'd lose it if LeBlanc is the next to throw a perfect game 😂
Bro yall see babe Ruth's slide
If Wade LeBlanc ever throws a perfect game I will personally make 100 RUclips accounts and subscribe them all to you.
HARVEY HADDIX BABY
0:54. What's that stuff about 4hr game being 163 times more rare than no hitter??? Is incorrect
A no-hitter has a chance to happen twice per game, once for each pitcher. A 4hr game has a chance to happen 18 times a game, one for each batter. The 163 times rarer takes into account the frequency each of these could happen.
@@Trevith99 ahh okay, makes sense.
Wait in the graph from the beginning wtf is four strikeouts in one inning
caleb bohrer say you strike out the first two batters you face, then you get the third batter to chase the third strike but the ball gets away from the catcher and the batter reaches first base. The pitcher has to face a fourth batter but he strikes the batter out, leading to four strikeouts.
Ernie Shore should have the perfect game
Everyone was stealing signs except for the one person that everyone knows and cares about?! I ain’t buying that.
noti gang 4L 🤮🤮🤮🤧🤧🤧
Shore is credited with a shutout but not a perfect game
7:42 domingo german
Babe Ruth didn’t exist
Andy hawkins threw a no hitter and lost the game
Joe West would have been tough enough to take Babe on 💪😐
Kershaw should have a perfect game but Hanley ramirez had to ruin it
