Hey all! Hope you guys are excited for what is certainly an interesting run - the Dark types deserved some extra love I thought, and Platinum's a super fun game for it! A big thanks to Raid for supporting the channel so much and allowing me to get more videos out for you guys. If you haven't yet make sure to try the game out: clik.cc/7Ce7I Gonna be working hard to try and get you guys another Halloween Special for next week so make sure you're Subscribed so ya don't miss it!
You should do a new type of run that I invented Called a Mono-Weakness run Instead of only using pokemon of one type, you only use pokemon who are all weak to one type. This would give you lots of choice depending on the type you choose but whenever that type shows up you're in for a challenge
It’s interesting you talked about how bad the Dark types are before the Physical-Special split. It makes me curious how strong the other types are in their generations. Fairy certainly isn’t a type you’ve done yet~
I know Gengar was completely screwed over until Gen 4. Both Ghost and Poison used to be physical types. And, as we all know, Gengar is not a physical attacker. So running STAB moves was essentially suicide. It had to rely on Psychic as it's best move
So many got screwed over before the physical specials split: gyarados didn't have any physical STABS due to water being all special Flareon, Arcanine couldn't use their higher physical due to fire being all special Butterfree, Venomoth, Masquerain couldn't properly use bug because it was all physical Hitmonchan couldn't use the elemental punches properly because they were all special The list goes on but you get the idea; Gen 1-3 hurt a lot of pokemon.
Gyarados was a interesting one. In the first gen it was incredible because not only for its inmense Attack but also because back then Special Attack and Special Defense where merged in the same stat so Gyarados also had "both" good Special Attack and Special Defense at the same time. But during gen 2 it came the physical/special stat split, making Gyarados somewhat useless because it gived Gyarados a terrible Special Attack, and since Water types where of the special category in the first 3 gens it made the poor thing being one of the worse water type Pokémon for many years. It wasn´t until gen 4 it become a beast again with the physical and special moves split. But also the physical/special split wasn´t always good for all Pokémon, Dodrio was very dangerous for its Tri Attack in the first 3 gens until it became a special move, so Tri Attack is now Porygon-Z´s signature move while Dodrio is now rarelly seeing in battles.
@@mirandaoakwood8612 you say that as if flareon was worth anything at all until like gen 7 (i think thats when it got flare blitz) but even then its still terrible (unless you play a rom hack then its pretty good)
In gen 1, psychic was overpowered because none of its weaknesses worked properly, but the real MVP was Normal. Normal moves hit basically everything and had the best physical moves in the game in the form of STAB Body Slam and Hyper Beam. Both fighting-type moves and Pokémon sucked so they weren't an adequate counter. Rock had its only success story as a defensive type because of Rock/Ground being able to switch in on Normal and Electric moves. People think Alakazam was the most powerful regular mon in gen1, but it got bodied by Tauros, Chansey and Snorlax.
Wow Silph that was super! Dark types are nice, after all, more than I thought! I have to say, this challenge really caught my attention from the beginning to the very end! Man, your challenges are always worth watching, no doubt! Lots of fun! Thank you!

Fun fact: despite the fact that dark used to be a special type, there is not a single attacking dark type move that existed before gen 4 that diddnt become physical after the physical/special split. Seriously look it up, there is not a single dark type move that is currently special that existed before gen 4. Apparently game freak also realised how stupid it was to make so many physically focused pokemon with a special type.

Drapion is a beast!! great Def and Atk, Dark-Posion is such a good type combination only weak to ground Hounchkrow has some drip going on, Mix attacker and Flying gives you an asnwer to fighting.
