I think what gives me the fizz about this is here's a 15 year old young man who's carrying on the family tradition by carrying his own pocket knife. Shockingly, not many of the younger generation does, and that's a huge knock for me. I mean I'm 30 years old, and I am always in shock when I go to a gathering and I'm the only person pulling out a knife or multitool. I'm not saying a knife makes a man, but I will say that the men who carry knives everyday definitely have a certain character that makes them stand above in my eyes. Bravo kiddo, I'm sure your a great man!

I know exactly what you are talking about. I really hope I can instill the proper morals and manlyness in my son that is sorely missing in this generation. Due to not having a father that could really teach me anything, I had to learn all of my skills in 2 ways, through my grandfather(whom I lost before I got all of the lessons I needed) and through trial and error.

My EDC has, 80% of the time, been a Kershaw since I got my first Leek (1660) over 15 years ago. I keep an eye out for deals on their "entry-level" offerings and I've picked up more than a few in the $15-25 range with particular purpose as the "not worried about abusing it" knife and/or to give a guy who was without one.
If anyone knows of a better manufacturer for bang-for-the-buck folder, I'd like to hear it.
Alex, thanks for sharing. I hate that you lost your dad, especially so young. I'll be praying that you will find good, strong, honorable, real men who show what it means to be Servant as Leader. That, while no one can fill that void, there will be men who can help you as you're learning how to carry the mantle of manhood.
Just that you reached out to Cody and trusted because of the times that you shared with your father, it says a lot about you already. I have absolutely zero doubt that you'll do awesome things and grow to become the kind of man that would make your dad proud and make the rest of us take inventory within ourselves.
I sure hope that we hear from you again.

I lost my Dad when I was 1 year old, he passed on his 22nd birthday, I can not put into words the feeling that I felt the day I understood,.....it became a part of me, a part of who I am........Now I’m 71 and the older I get the more I feel what that little boy felt. But, even so, I have always been a doer, a fixer, a creator with my mind and my hands, growing up in the corn belt around farmers and their I can do it mentality. Every winter the farmers would gather around a pot belly stove at the one gas station in town and talk about the past season and what they dealt with, along with a lot of colorful stories and I would run up there every morning and lean against the wall and listen, I was 6.

I came to your channel a LONG time ago when I happened to see a thumbnail of you and your very young son as you were teaching him how to use a chainsaw to remove a stump. Like you and many others, Nutnfancy has cost me tons of money. I know this is certainly not for everyone and its tough if you CCW IWB at the 4 or 5 o clock but lately I have been carrying a small fixed blade knife IWB on my belt like a Esse Izula, CRKT minimalist, Bradord Guardian, Benchmade hidden canyon, and a few others. I will also carry a victorinox farmer or victorinox hiker in my back pocket right alongside my wallet. Small mundane tasks I use the victorinox like packages and whatnot I use the victorinox. It's also great having the extra tools like the screwdrivers and saw as well. Bigger tasks I use the small fixed blade to cut food or process game or fish. cutting rope and rigging at work, small bushcraft tasks, and whatever general knife stuff comes about. If I'm lazy or sore or it's a million degrees out and don't have heavy clothing on I'll just throw a folding knife in my pocket but I do like having that stout fixed blade and my right jeans pocket free for whatever I want to put in it. You can also throw the small fixed blade in your jeans pocket at well where you carry your folder but I don't find that super comfortable.

I’ve been carrying the Kershaw Select Fire for years as a landscaper. The driver tips mean you’ll never risk your knife tip and the driver actually holds enough to fix small motor issues, use it on fence gates, a lot. I’ve hacked 1” vines with it. Divet cut 2”branches. Hell my father in law liked it so much my wife bought em one for a gift. Runs about $40, holds an edge, has useful gizmos. Perfect for a 15 year old.
    Edit:
Driver bits will rust after being sweated on during hard work but the blade holds finish.

I bought a little, Camillus Wedge flipper around 2 years ago from Walmart for $13 bucks; i use it often and have had no issues. I like Kershaw, Buck, Gerber, Camillus and I'm really impressed with the, Holtzman Gorilla Survival folding knife, I've seen some reviews on it and I see it in my future. Thank you for your video, for $20 bucks you can't go wrong. I like the Kershaw Blur as well. I hope people who can't spend alot on a knife know that there are many budget knives of good quality that can last you years under normal use and taking care of it. Many knife experts say most people aren't going to use their expensive knives for EDC; there going to get roughed up anyway. My philosophy is if you buy a budget knife and it farts on you after a couple years it doesn't really matter, by that time your looking to buy another knife anyway and probably have already bought other knives since. 😂😎👍

Alex, I'm so sorry that you've lost your dad at such a young age. I can't imagine what that must be like. (I had mine 'til he was 90, and I was 47. I just turned 68.)
I can echo Cody's words of advice to you. And I would add: I pray that God will bring other men into your life, not to replace your dad, but help you learn to grow up honest, true, free and honorable. As your Dad would have, I'm sure. Keep plugged in here, even if it's sometimes painful with memories or "empty places" where you wish your dad could have shared that moment with you. Grief will come in stages, and in times that are unpredictable. Embrace those moments, they are the price of loving someone, and that's not a bad thing. We'll be praying for you as well.

I I carry a Keyshawn 1830 ODSW as my EDC it has been flawless for years now.
The model you are showing here has the pocket clip on the opposite end of wear mine is, which I do not like as well. Mine cam be reversed.
The handle on mine is also a green with a sort of random pattern grip. Making it very comfortable and slip resistant.
The assisted blade opener has always been good for me although a thumb bolt would have been nice as well.
I personally prefer a lock back or push button blade lock over the lock liners for the reasons you expressed. But so few knives today seem to have the other two so I have gotten used to it and so far have not lost any blood.

Cody, I have carried Kershaws for years. My first one was a Menards exclusive picked up on Black Friday for 5 bucks. It was the best knife I had ever owned. I have Spydercos, Gerber's, SOG, etc. It had a cast handle. It was a assisted opening, I never had it open in my pocket or flip out of my hand. Sadly, I lost it. I Kershaw didn't sell it direct as it was built for Menards that one year. I found one on ebay for 20 bucks, new. I carried those to identical knifes for almost 15 years with no issues. I finally wore out the plastic bushing. Contacted Kershaw and sent it in for repair. They said it wasn't repairable and told me they would credit me the value. I ask what was the comparable model was and they sent it to me. I didn't even pay shipping. It also has a cast handle and is assisted opening. Again, no issues carrying or flipping out of my hand. No hot spots and keeps an edge fairly well. I don't remember what silly name they call it. I have had it going on 5 years now.
About a year ago I had a gift card and thought I would upgrade to a "high" quality knife. I couldn't find one that gave me any fizz close to the Kershaw, including the 940. Mine has a lanyard hole big enough for paracord, the blade is centered, it has none of the negatives you mentioned. I think Kershaw price is closer to 40.00 but to me Kershaw is a top shelf knife at a budget price.
Awesome job and supporting a young viewer keep up the great content.
Prayers to you an your family.

Cody the advice you gave the young man has to be the most standup manly thing I have heard in a looong time. Not since my dad when I was little. I'm 50 now and he is gone. He went when he was 93, and I carry his knowledge to this day and am now passing it to my son. As long as he sticks to your advice and stays true in his heart that young man will do just fine. Love the channel, stay blessed and keep on keeping on brother.✌🏼❤️🇺🇸🌲

With my just arrived 940 in hand, thanks to your repeated endorsement, i’d like to see a similar review…
    Benchmade Osborne 940
    > tumbled finish on blade
    > not open back
    > no lanyard hole
    > not deep carry clip
    > big name on carry clip
Lots of the same negatives as the $23 knife but… lots of positives.

I've been using a little Gerber "Bear Grylls" knife for a few years now. I originally thought it would be cheap with the celebrity endorsement and all but it's held up great.

A Kershaw 1555TI assisted opening has been my EDC for the better part of the last decade. I've never once had it "fly" out of my hands when opening lol. Nor have I ever had it open in my pocket. I'm also not super diligent about cleaning it either. Yes...if it gets dirty, I'll rinse it off to get whatever gunk is on it off but...never any issues with the mechanism. I get that some models could be more susceptible to this than others but, I've got nothing but great things to say about it. To the point where I don't even know what I'd replace it with if I had to. Possibly this knife. Occasionally I'll check out some other knives as a possible replacement but I can never find one that comes remotely close to it.

Cody, I'm pretty sure you meant James Bowie(1796-March 6, 1836) of Alamo fame.
My EDC is Buck USA 285 camo with a Compass Industries Silver Falcon in my back pocket for back up.

i agree with the assisted, I have the s30v blur and the assisted almost seems like it hinders the speed of the opening, id rather if they invested more in a better pivot than spring assist. I will say though with the track tech on the blur it does keep it in your hand a bit better.

My condolences go out to you Alex.
I've carried the Ken onion Kershaw Scallion for over 20 years now. In on occasion when I'm dressed up I carry my great grandpa's 3 blade case folder. The blades are a little worn down from years of Widdling and other uses.
I have a bench made 940 but like the size of the Scallion better. Well I think you doing this review for Alex is really nice.

I like large knives with around a 4" blade, and those with thick blades. For the past 5 or 6 years, I've carried an. Artisan Cutlery Jungle. For the previous 15-20 years, I carried Kershaw assisted opening knives, and never had a problem opening them, or their opening in pockets. Before that, I tried carrying automatic knives, but I DID have accidental "discharges" with them, so I no longer carry them in my pocket.

My dad gave me a Kershaw that he bought in the 90s it has 2410 steel made in japan has a thumb stud that would only work for a righthanded person and a partially serrated edge and is ground on one side.

I have always liked knives but I just recently started getting into knives. I only had a few knives that have actually lasted longer then a year or so. Since i started this journey ive aquired a nice Gerber paraframe, CRKT S.P.E.W. warncliff, a Ruike (cant remember model), a Sencut sachse, and a Vosteed corgi. The corgi is my favorite EDC folder, and i carry the CRKT on my belt. I have an old Kershaw that ive had for years also, gonna have to upgrade my Kershaw now. Lol

I've been carrying a Kershaw Ken Onion Leek(1660). Only complaint I have had has been the in pocket lock. I have broken atleast 3 of them. I keep 2 on hand, 1 for daily use and 1 as a shiny "dress" knife.

I've carried a Benchmade for a long time, the 940 mini. It has flew down stairs, off a roof, all kinds of things and it's still going. I even took your suggestion from a yesteryear video suggesting the TSPROF sharpening system and put my own edge on it that I maintain. I even took the clip off of it and carry it in my pocket watch jeans pocket, which amazingly fits perfect. I think these Kershaw's, even though not the most expensive of steels and that yours already has a bent tip, would still do just fine when sharpened for everyday tasks. Do you need to spend the $180 on a Benchmade to cut some boxes? No, not really. That's why I see the value in these kinds of knives. The average EDC'er is typically going to be people in retail, an office setting, or something relevant where the knife won't see much use regardless. It's a reason I never bash people for their choices of a knife. I understand the quality differences now that I've been sharpening mine for a long time & in comparison to cheaper knives I have (also a more expensive Fox one I have using M390), but a knife is a knife, it cuts things, including you. If I had to consolidate all my knives, I'd be down to my 940 mini, just saying :-)

I grabbed a few Kershaws at Christmas time and was very impressed with the quality for the price .
I offered my friend a choice between a much more expensive CRKT and one of them . He hummed and hawed offer it for a long time , as I did thinking which one to give away , in the end he choose the Kershaw.

The assist spring is inside the handle so anything that gets in the pivot screw should clean up like any other knife.
