"I am the sole developer of this semi-shitty semi-good game". I mean, what the fuck kind of reception did he expect with a pitch like that which acknowledges that his game is, well, shitty. Also, I can't seem to find the game on Steam anymore?... Edit: Nevermind, I found it. Wish I didn't though...
+Nitrium Oxide Yeah, but Batman wasn't a shooter and Isaac had all the HUD elements integrated into the back of his suit, so at least he was worth looking at.
As someone who actually dabbles in Unity 3D and considers themselves fairly entry level, the only reason that there is no connection between the floor and the wall as in 6:50, is because they were too fucking lazy to zoom in close enough to see it, left click, hold, and drag down one space to connect the fucker.
considering they felt it was a better idea to just slap a "play the 2nd level first, it's the best and you can learn to play" in the description, rather than just putting said level first... I'm totally willing to agree that this is probably laziness...
Tom Basche I know, but you don't even NEED the coordinate grid in order to properly align walls and floors, that's why this kind of shit is so damn miserable to see.
This game has positive reviews? How?! [looks] "This game falls pretty squarely into the "So Bad it's Good" category of games." "a game so great that you can jump out of a space station by clipping through the ceiling." Well that explains everything.
***** Naw, There's a link somewhere in these comments to a forum post that shows the dev questioning whether he should keep trying to get it up on steam to earn a bit of cash without putting more effort in or if he should just ditch the project altogether. Digihom would never have second thoughts about milking a project for all it's worth.
***** Well I mean... I dunno about that, 'cause he got it up on steam and if he still feels the same way then he has absolutely no intention of supporting it. He tried to get it up as a fully released game and not as early access. but valve denied him until he changed it and he seemed pretty indignant about having to do so in the thread. Here's the link, you can read it for yourself if you want. forum.unity3d.com/threads/should-i-release-my-game-as-an-open-source-project-now-that-i-am-having-reasons-to-believe-steam-doe.416250/ Is he evil? Jesus, I mean, usually I have the tendency to want to give some of these devs the benefit of the doubt, you know, maybe they're just fooling around, maybe it's practice, maybe it's Maybelline. Just, the amount of self confidence this guy has, it's ridiculous. It scares me that he actually thinks that his game is more enjoyable than other first person shooters because of a lack of restrictions. crazy
G_Odu Of the North That doesn't surprise me one bit: I know a lot of crazy people and honnestly I'm starting to question my own sanity! And yes I do believe it's contagious. My mom have this 'friend' that can drive any sane and reasonable person nuts! And even if you flee the craziness and negativity sticks to you like a magnet for days! So yeah, some people are nuts and in total denial. In some cases they even think they're awesome despite being the most miserable, vile and useless people EVER! (yes, after five days I'm still pissed!)
People really need to learn to stop posting positive Steam reviews "Ironically", because the text of your review may reveal that it's actually terrible, but when it's a game like this that only has 3 reviews you've just made sure at least 25% of the reviews are positive (even more if one or more of the other three schmucks who bought it had the same idea.) Remember: "Ironic shitposting is still shitposting."
According to this "dev's" thread others have linked to, Steam didn't want to accept the game for a while and only let him publish it in Early Access. I'm guessing the backlash they got after approving Potato Thriller and loads of those other shitty "games" at once, combined with all those troll votes for "World of Warcraft" finally made them see some sense. Here's the link to it again, just in case: forum.unity3d.com/threads/should-i-release-my-game-as-an-open-source-project-now-that-i-am-having-reasons-to-believe-steam-doe.416250/ The dev of this calls our Jim "British far-right fatty" at one point. The response was rather amusing.
The disembodied arms might explain why the camera offset isn't connected to the rotation of the torso joint and both parts rotate out of sync. ^^ Seriously though, if the second level was better than the first - how bad is the first one then ffs (apart from the anal insertion into a dinosaur)?! Not to mention the lack of animation for both the muzzle flash on the gun and the reloading, the amateur map design, the ugly enemy models ... Oh, just noticed: there is a status HUD on the lower right of the screen. You just can't see it because of the weapon.
I spent 40 minutes trying to find the objective in the first level, the other 2 levels you just find a laptop & press E. So, my guess is that the Dev realises that finding a laptop asset in a massive forest world is impossible nonsense. Sad that Jim didn't go to the ship though; the water textures are quite a distance below the land.
Unimaginative Handle In other words: another quality product made with asset flips. ^^ I'm sorry for the cash you lost for this - whatever it's supposed to be.

The first person rig in Battlefield 3 and 4 consists of legs and arms, it's a common practice actually, their not gonna make the computer render a third person model in first person.
Funny as always Jim, keep up the good work, i have enjoy watching ur stuff for a good while now, from one youtuber to another never change and tell it like it is lol
I love the "You don't get the right to comment/review/state your opinion, unless you've made 1 video game in your life". I would like the see the state of the world if that argument would be applied to every service or good. Your Internet service is garbage: well you can't complaint, because you never provided the Internets to them persons; Your cellphone is not as good as advertised, well you never came up with your own cellphone did ya?; Your car's autopilot caused your wife's death?... sorry, how many cars you built in your life? none?... oh that's too bad... to these so called "developers", the consumer seems to be the lowest tier of a caste system: you don't have rights, you just cough up the money...
I hope they're able to sort your back out, Jim. You've been living with it for some time now, and it can't be easy doing all of your podcasts and videos, and trying to maintain your cheeky persona, whilst being in pain like that.
Love how the enemy hit boxes are way larger than the models, also the shots don't go anywhere near where the reticle is, ohh and that camera shake when firing...made me sick. So many things wrong with this one.
You're probably right, though early on it almost looks like there's a tank with the turret blown off, so part of me wonders if it might have been footage from one of the conflicts in Eastern Europe like in Bosnia or something. I could be totally wrong though.
I've often wondered the same thing on how they can fail to get walls and floors connected. I've worked with MOD tools that when you finish a room you can hit a button that will search for "leaks" effectively filling the room with virtual air and then telling you if any is escaping. Then you just look around for the gaps and such and correct them. It's quite literally the first thing you learn.
I get and like your point on "timely" things :) if people wanna read, or watch your stuff, they will! I mean heck, I will even look at reviews weeks/months after a games come out, just because I'm thinking of getting into it. so there's definitely always still value :) and I'm glad things are less stressful because of that.
Jim, you might find this interesting. The steam forums dug up this little gem, from the developer of the game, talking about his plans and intentions. It's QUITE revealing. forum.unity3d.com/threads/should-i-release-my-game-as-an-open-source-project-now-that-i-am-having-reasons-to-believe-steam-doe.416250/
I'd like to point out that the ship on the right at 15:20 (that Jim phases through) is almost definitely the Firestorm from XCOM: Enemy Unknown, but with all the color drained out
Praise God for you Jim Sterling. I have seen the light and started my own channel. I know that it will never meet yours but I hope to grovel at the feet of your greatness.
Have you ever seen Contradiction? it's super old at this point but I've recently watched a playthrough and it was one of the most hilarious things I've seen in a while. And with a lot of attention there might be a sequel.
Regarding the text (it might have been me last time), there's literally a single checkbox the "developer" needs to check in Unity to make it so that text is properly culled when not in view. No code needed. This is assuming they made this in the last... I want to say 2 years since they introduced their UI tools (edit... yeah a year ago. He was definitely using it post UI tools). Otherwise its a shader thing which is just put it in the right "layer" instead. Again, very simple.
Seeing text through walls - the developer likely made text render last, so it's going to appear over everything else. You usually do this with a second camera that sees only the text. People usually want to do this when the second camera sees your gun / hands so that it doesn't appear to clip through walls even though it is anyway.
I know it's old hat, but yeah, I can relate to the back pain problems. I broke one of my lower vertebrae, and fractured the one above it when I was 14 yrs old, then shortly after finally being able to move about and start working again, I pulled two of them apart in the middle of my spine.. all the years of chiropractic care and physical therapy were depressing enough, but I also had to deal with massive nightly leg cramps due to that as well. I somehow didn't develop a drug habit though, which is good. I was on Vicodin for nearly four years total.
game looks ok but ya know if the players hand and gun could somehow.... be.. larger... i can barely even tell they are there sometimes.. i dont want the robots to think im babyhands mcgee, you know what they say about people with small hands right?
"Just testing the walls" I do that too, all the time - every time I enter a room, I go mash myself against a wall, to see if I can go through it... People look at me, like I'm crazy.
>Didn't restock laser weapon ammo by switching to laser weapon and collecting ammo, instead made us watch him fail to comprehend the recoil of a machine gun making the gun shoot upwards and not compensating for it.
What is it with developers who can't make the walls and the floors connect? Why Mr. Stirling there are many reasons: 1.wall and floor assets may not designed to work with each other (and are not necessarily scaleable in such manner that they work.) 2. the devs don't look at the scenery from multiple angles, (because ctrl-click, shift-click, middle mouse button, keyboard shortcuts, and other viewport controls are hard apparently) 3. Most assets have to be positioned *exactly,* as they are designed to fit with others in a set along a seam...buuuut, actual game dev tools generally don't have the same *snap-to* stuff people are used to with level editors in games, as they are asset agnostic. 4. ^Building on the previous point, I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of game devs don't know that: a) you can find the exact width, height, length, scaling and rotation of assets in use. b) you can position items relatively to others. c) you can use contextual menus to input exact coordinates, as such the devs resort to moving things by eye with the mouse, or just guessing coordinates....if it sounds stupid, I did this back when modding morrowind. 5. In this case it looks like they used primitive shapes, which can be scaled to need....so just lazy. A hopefully temporary solution. 6. ...also the basics, lack of testing, lack of caring and so on. Hopefully informative.
I can't believe he didn't mention this but did you guys notice just how twisted back the character's left wrist was? OW. I don't think my wrist is even flexible enough to twist that far. And while holding heavy firearms.
I use Percocet every day to deal with sever leg pain from a kind of RLS. It's the only thing that helps me, how many MGs of oxy or they having you take for that pain? I'm a bug guy too and I take about six as needed. I don't know what they told you, but I was told it last 6 hours but that's bullshit. It takes about 40 minutes to set in and lasts around 3 MAYBE 4. If you feel like thats the case with you and you need more, don;t be afraid to tell your doctor Jim.
When a developer answers criticism playing the card of "Oh, yeah? It's bad? Then do a better one and show me! Oh, you can't? Then your criticism is invalid" and goes on to post how steam rejects his game despite the very developer aknowledging it is shitty... ...the legend says a new episode is written by the mighty Lord Jim Fucking Sterling, son, in the scrolls of history. Their history. Our history. *The Story of Steam - of Assetflips, lazy devs and Shovelware* My dear, this will last for ages to come... Thank God for Jim Sterling.
13:50 I lost it. I fucking lost it. I tried not to laugh but I fucking lost it. It doesn't help I was watching a video of Sonic 06 and saw the same thing happen with Eggman's mechs; just flying off into the great beyond and dying.
After reading the desc. on the store page, it really feels like the "dev" actually just ripped this off from some database somewhere, and resold it as his work - he even talks about it as if he has nothing to do with it~ it honestly just seems like a proof of concept that was cast aside, and now some random guy decided to pick it up and sell it.
I could be wrong, but I thought that the text in Unity wasn't even code based I thought it was a matter of just setting up rendering layers or something.
Developer throws hilarious tantrum following my video.
gyazo.com/67c56707344e4e7b994ab6a1e3a25257
Because throwing tantrums has always worked well for these "developers".
Because doing that ALWAYS works out for them in the end. XD
That's really hard to understand. :)
Jim Fucking Sterling son, Angry Fatty, The One also known as "not a real RUclipsr"
It's "semi-shitty" because you can only see half of it at any one time.
To be honest, your 3rd person characters in Dead Space or Batman take up about as much space and no one complained.
+Nitrium Oxide Yeah, but Batman wasn't a shooter and Isaac had all the HUD elements integrated into the back of his suit, so at least he was worth looking at.
also the cursors in deadspace were actually visible and were where the gun actually fired.
I'm totally willing to agree that this is probably laziness...
pro tip: you can use the coordinates to line stuff up exactly. learnt this one after too much zooming and dragging
Tom Basche
I know, but you don't even NEED the coordinate grid in order to properly align walls and floors, that's why this kind of shit is so damn miserable to see.
You can even hold down control when you move the object, and the it will automatically snap to the grid.
This isn't a game. This is someone practicing coding.
This game has positive reviews? How?! [looks]
"This game falls pretty squarely into the "So Bad it's Good" category of games."
"a game so great that you can jump out of a space station by clipping through the ceiling."
Well that explains everything.
open the door.
get on the floor.
everybody do the dinosaur.
Hold the door!
Hold the Floor!
It's "walk" though. 9/10.
Hold the dinosaur!
Break the door!
you have to hold the right gun to pick up ammo?
that reminds me of something
How dare you suggest that comparison, at least this game tries to warn you.
Eon2641 im just a bit...suspicious

He says this game is half shit. But when you mix shit with something that is not shit, does not the whole thing become shit?
If I throw poo at your face do you turn into poo?
yes
It does become shittier, as it will likely leave a smear as it slides off.
if i put shit in a taco shell is it still a taco?
kelsyer the human lightning rod If poo is thrown in a forest, and nobody is around to hear it, then how the hell was it thrown?

Goddamn 4chan!
it's 2018. Your call has fallen on deaf edgelord ears
That part with the shadow had me in tears laughing.
There is an ammo count, in bottom right corner and it's in black font, so you can't see it unless you aim.
I can make better game.
A game populated entirely by Cliff Racers would be better than a significant portion of the drivel that Jim plays... Oh right, Morrowind
Hahaha.
This game is "incredible."
I can probably make a better game too.
Actually I have an idea for a game. So you can say that I'm further along in the development process than this game is.
Ray Charles could make a better game and he doesn't know anything about programming.
Brb, making a space pirate game where they say "nyargh" a lot. I expect you to play it, Jim! I'll even put Boglins in it!
This is wretched and I love it. It's been too long since we've seen shit on this level on steam.
too often jim plays things that are too badto be funny. this its one lol

Well at least the developer is semi-honest.
I'd make a Jurassic Park joke in reference to the title but I'm not feeling very Rebellious.
Do you think that CoD is too fast paced and its weapon models are too small? I've got the game for you!
The disembodied arms might explain why the camera offset isn't connected to the rotation of the torso joint and both parts rotate out of sync. ^^
Seriously though, if the second level was better than the first - how bad is the first one then ffs (apart from the anal insertion into a dinosaur)?!
Unimaginative Handle
In other words: another quality product made with asset flips. ^^
I'm sorry for the cash you lost for this - whatever it's supposed to be.
It doesn't help that the "HUD" is fucking black.
To anyone reading this: please report these kind of games off Steam as either:

WE can get rid of these shitty games on Steam!
WE can restore Steam back to its former glory!
WE can make Steam GREAT AGAIN!
We could build a wall and make them pay for it...but in a way...they already do.
it's amazing that they have to pay so much money and all they do is make stupid shit
"This is how we end with the dinosaur ass killing me."
It's how all things end, really.
Guns that take up half the screen? Enemies with wonky AI? Your character's just a pair of legs and floating arms?
Sign me the fuck up!
/s
who needs a torso and head?
Just like Jurassic Park: Trespasser, what with the arm and floating boobs
Or the parents from Cow and Chicken.
... Why the fuck do I know that?
Because you had good taste in animated shows as a kid...that's how you know.
I AM WEASEL!!!
The first person rig in Battlefield 3 and 4 consists of legs and arms, it's a common practice actually, their not gonna make the computer render a third person model in first person.
Justified alignment in the opening titles? How does this developer sleep at night?
Like a baby I supposed?
A quick masturbate while thinking about the cock they're touching
Definitely not trying to defend him, but unless I'm missing something they're centered.
Sofa King WeToddEd A potential steam dev meltdown?
only legs? our character is cow and chicken dad!!!!
I give this 7000 overlapping textures out of 583 unconnected walls and floors.
Funny as always Jim, keep up the good work, i have enjoy watching ur stuff for a good while now, from one youtuber to another never change and tell it like it is lol
that's one hell of a massive gun. ½ of the screen. Brilliant!

Do you find these shitty games or do they find you? haha
Anyway I hope your back feels better soon.
We find them then burn effigies to summon him.
My last display name was too long Lmao, the calling of Jim Sterling
+My last display name was too long thats weird, i always just used a pentagram and 15 gallons of chocolate pudding
jacob peterson Pogs and some lube works better.
+My last display name was too long welp, back to the greenlight pit. I need some new sacrifices
Successfully rode a T-rex. 10/10.
Star Citizen finally on Steam!
You win the internet for today!
To this day I still wonder what part of this was semi good...
You're right. I did wait a long while to find out why the video was titled that.
I was not disappointed.
Love how the font is two typings of papyrus, one over the other.
I can't get over the sound the guy makes when he takes damage. Why the hell?
I hope they're able to sort your back out, Jim. You've been living with it for some time now, and it can't be easy doing all of your podcasts and videos, and trying to maintain your cheeky persona, whilst being in pain like that.
wow can't get enough of "the best graphics"
Love how the enemy hit boxes are way larger than the models, also the shots don't go anywhere near where the reticle is, ohh and that camera shake when firing...made me sick.
So many things wrong with this one.
I immediately checked the title as soon as I heard "the dinosaur ass is killing me" and sure enough, the dinosaur ass was killing me.
I wonder what movie the intro scene came from.
wtf hahahaha
You're probably right, though early on it almost looks like there's a tank with the turret blown off, so part of me wonders if it might have been footage from one of the conflicts in Eastern Europe like in Bosnia or something. I could be totally wrong though.
My guess would be it's real drone footage from eastern Ukraine. Chernobyl has no destroyed houses or military vehicles.
i think its from Ukraine after all the fighting over Crimea
Laser guns with recoil? I've never understood that, they are shooting light, right?
I've often wondered the same thing on how they can fail to get walls and floors connected. "This is some next level shit"- Jim Sterling
This is the kind of game that I subscribed to this channel for. Well that and trolling good ol Jim "Chungus" Sterling.
Even Win10 was like, here is something better than this game... try out office.
Even though there are better alternative. but yes.
No, Jim... this is mud from the playground that a 5 year old kid pretends is dough.
So he made the game to fuel his alcoholism? Clever bastard.
Have you ever seen Contradiction? it's super old at this point but I've recently watched a playthrough and it was one of the most hilarious things I've seen in a while. And with a lot of attention there might be a sequel.

Heh, the recoil was happening before the shot, making shooting that much more unreliable. Nice.
All that bollocks and then just when you're ready to throw in the towel, a dinosaur and a fucking pirate ship!
Will Jim get threatened with legal action? Place your bets! Place your bets here! (Pogs only)

This game seems just as functional as Turok 3. Same amount of dinosaurs too.
Short answer: "Y-E-S"
Long answer: "N-O"
There is an ammo counter but its so dark you don't see it half the time. Bottom right.
This game made me cry. But good attempt Jim, I am sorry you do this for us, but thank you, you brave man. Godspeed.
10/10! 5 stars! 4 stars! 100! new york times calls it a "master piece for the ages"
game looks ok but ya know if the players hand and gun could somehow.... be.. larger... i can barely even tell they are there sometimes.. i dont want the robots to think im babyhands mcgee, you know what they say about people with small hands right?
"Just testing the walls"
I do that too, all the time - every time I enter a room, I go mash myself against a wall, to see if I can go through it... People look at me, like I'm crazy.
"Semi good" is a bit of a stretch.
>Didn't restock laser weapon ammo by switching to laser weapon and collecting ammo, instead made us watch him fail to comprehend the recoil of a machine gun making the gun shoot upwards and not compensating for it.
I like my protagonists to hold a gun as awkwardly as possible. It adds to the immersion.
I can't tell whether or not everything is covered in shitty reflections of the skybox, or if I'm seeing the stars through walls and the guns...
Well at the very least he's being transparent about his beer consumption.
Ah yes, the space stations made out of concrete
What is it with developers who can't make the walls and the floors connect?
Why Mr. Stirling there are many reasons:
1.wall and floor assets may not designed to work with each other (and are not necessarily scaleable in such manner that they work.)
2. the devs don't look at the scenery from multiple angles, (because ctrl-click, shift-click, middle mouse button, keyboard shortcuts, and other viewport controls are hard apparently)
3. Most assets have to be positioned *exactly,* as they are designed to fit with others in a set along a seam...buuuut, actual game dev tools generally don't have the same *snap-to* stuff people are used to with level editors in games, as they are asset agnostic.
4. ^Building on the previous point, I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of game devs don't know that:
a) you can find the exact width, height, length, scaling and rotation of assets in use.
b) you can position items relatively to others.
c) you can use contextual menus to input exact coordinates,
as such the devs resort to moving things by eye with the mouse, or just guessing coordinates....if it sounds stupid, I did this back when modding morrowind.
5. In this case it looks like they used primitive shapes, which can be scaled to need....so just lazy. A hopefully temporary solution.
6. ...also the basics, lack of testing, lack of caring and so on.
Hopefully informative.
Pogs for Boglins should be the mandatory loading game for this game.
Finding wepons, dying, and not moon jumping is what keeps us entertained.
Does BobGGG, has his world put a ban on videogames?
The guy holds his pistol like his arm was chopped off, replaced with a rubber prosthetic and then dislocated his shoulder
I don't think I've ever heard someone say heaven help us in my life
I enjoyed watching this misadventure of a sentient pair of legs
When a developer answers criticism playing the card of "Oh, yeah? It's bad? Then do a better one and show me! Oh, you can't? Then your criticism is invalid" and goes on to post how steam rejects his game despite the very developer aknowledging it is shitty...
...the legend says a new episode is written by the mighty Lord Jim Fucking Sterling, son, in the scrolls of history. Their history. Our history.
*The Story of Steam - of Assetflips, lazy devs and Shovelware*
My dear, this will last for ages to come...
Thank God for Jim Sterling.
This character is supposed to defeat some major evil corporation, but he doesn't know how to hold a gun?
13:50 I lost it. I fucking lost it. I tried not to laugh but I fucking lost it. It doesn't help I was watching a video of Sonic 06 and saw the same thing happen with Eggman's mechs; just flying off into the great beyond and dying.
After reading the desc. on the store page, it really feels like the "dev" actually just ripped this off from some database somewhere, and resold it as his work - he even talks about it as if he has nothing to do with it~
it honestly just seems like a proof of concept that was cast aside, and now some random guy decided to pick it up and sell it.
Reading the title before watching the video, then having the payoff at the end, is better than anything in this entire game.
This video had me laughing so hard. Thanks Jim!
Why does nintendo give you the run around for review copies? Did they take issue on something you did before?
I could be wrong, but I thought that the text in Unity wasn't even code based I thought it was a matter of just setting up rendering layers or something.
That was the most perfect ending I have seen for a video in a long time.
What the actual hell, the developer is still ranting about you over a year later!!! lmao
hope you feel better soon Jim. thanks for creating content to spite all that!
13:45
And some say the little robot is still rocketing through the stars to this day :'^)
The text is a 3d text mesh, which is a standard unity thing. I use it, but it aint that hard to make a trigger to enable it if near
You can instantly tell everything you need to know about a shooter by how they place the gun on the damn screen.
