I can't keep the blade parallel to the standard referance plate. I was just sketching up a design like this. Then i found this video. Why in the world worsharp didnt do this is beyond me.
Great blog and i always thought the elite guide was to far away from the belt to be %100 right angle thx to this blog i will definitely look into this to purchase. Your a 💎 gem
I would assume, the other flat that comes in from the sides is for bolsters and pocket knife frames so you can get the rear of the blade to the belt. Although painful to watch you trying to figure out what you bought; rather than having tried them and speaking confidently - I’ll still order a set.
I just started my business, took the courage by watching your videos, thanks for all the advices and great videos, I work on the hospitality industry (server) and decided to start a company I can call my own…. BTW, how can I find that knife you’re using for this video?
So far I've actually really enjoyed having it. Especially for blades that I've had to grind new tips on it helped me get a consistent bevel edge back on the blade. I do how ever find myself using it without the top tray and using the mount for a hand rest. Will definitely buy another one when I get my second system.
When Isaw the Ken Onion with the blade grinder attachment my immediate thought was why would they make it where you put the knife on the little “platform” the lift it up and take a chance on losing the angle? Really DUMB design. This is what it should be like!
Just ordered one! I love my WorkSharp but… when sharpening smaller blades, my hand always hits the machine’s handle when I’m prepping to sharpen off the left side. I’m always wondering if the handle being in the way is messing with my hold of the angle. This should solve that problem!
They need a flat that the belt can glide over for scandi knives. A non stick material like quality bench sanders have so you have a completely flat surface . Scandi blades are not "easy to sharpen " as people like to say . They can be a nightmare if they get damaged or abused. I gotta get this grinder attachment, I'm sick of doing the old school way and the sharpeners like the Precision Adjust do not work as good as people say. They are fine for small knives but anything larger takes forever. I'd rather have a convexed edge on 99% of my blades.
It’s worth getting. You can move the rollers closer together, increase belt tension and use lighter pressure to achieve a flatter grind. If you want even flatter grinds, you can get an aftermarket zirconia belt which will be extra stiff and won’t deflect as easily. Worksharp also sells a “stiff belt kit” but it’s impossible to find unless you order it directly from them. I recently sharpened an absolutely destroyed mora at around 12 degrees with minimal convexing. That was with an 80 grit then 120 zirconia and carefully finishing off with the stock belts. It shouldn’t need to be that finicky but it is doable.
Why it wasn't made originally is beyond me. Great invention!!!!!
Right! Just opened up orders!!
Yeah, why are you expected to freehand the angle on a knife sharpening beltt grinder?

When i first saw the sharpener that was my first thought as why would they put the platform so far away

In guessing that the one with the cutouts is for knife handles.
The maker confirmed it is for smaller blades / knife handles like you’re saying! 🙌
Hi Michael. Is there any UK Outlet for this please?
