I strongly disagree with the idea of "you won't understand it cuz you never read the orignal fiction". Yes it does matter a bit ,but this game could be a perfect starter to fully and officially introduce this fiction. Instead of telling them they won't understand the story anyway, this game itself is the best guide book to encourage people to start the whole new adventure.
I felt bad for any players who weren't familiar with Sun Wukong Journey to the West story because of the gamescience developers, who foremost created this game in their mind that majority of the players in Asia already familiar with Sun Wukong story origin. Some of the players probably won't fully grasp onto the story of Wukong, the destined one. Anyone familiar with Sun Wukong will have fun on the adventure of this game.

I wonder if Zhu Bajie/Wuneng & Sha Wujing will make an appearance later on in the game, I KNOW the Tiger Vanguard (the Yao Tiger who tore his ENTIRE skin off) from Chapter 20 does...

Understand or not, I will still love the story (just hopefully the translation is on point). The main concerns is more about the bugs and glitch in the game which have been mentioned several times in the reviews...
The dialogues in the game contain tons of information but don't explain them. For example, Wukong will say to a character "Go find your uncle". Chinese players know this character and understand that Wukong is mocking him. But for non-Chinese players, they may not follow. Of course i don't mean to discourage people's enthusiasm for this game, I just hope that everyone can have a more accurate expectation.

Edit: So, THIS is the Start of the Game! I'm already VERY impressed with the attention to detail & nods! Things like Wukong actually doing a somersault before rides a cloud, Wukong's voice being VERY clearly inspired by Liu Xiao Ling Tong's Great Performance from the 1986 Series, The Ax Erlang uses to attack Wukong clearly being the same Ax he used to save his Mother (which is Yu Di/Huang's Sister), the Wukong we play as wearing a Tiger-Skin-Kilt, etc... Like, I Could Go On!
Hopefully we can see the adaptation of Fengshen Yanyi in this type of open world game in the future

When Wukong completed his pilgrimage, he became a deity in heaven. However, he wanted to return to his birthplace, the Flower-Fruit Mountain, to live with his monkey brothers and sisters. However, heaven was worried about him because his power was too great, so they wanted him to take up a position in heaven. Doing so would allow Wukong to obey heaven's order and control him. However, Wukong refused, so God sent heaven general Erlang Shen（three eye god）, one of heaven's generals, to capture Wukong.
Wukong was defeated by Erlang Shen and sealed in a stone, so the player retraces the journey to the West and helps Wukong to be resurrected.

总之一切都很好。
猴子成佛后还会惦记凡俗之事多少有些奇怪 还有天庭吃了败仗为何还要铲平花果山 必需要有个来龙去脉 否则难以让人信服 游戏的大场面是不错的

To many gamers who may not have known about the original story, the game story begins where Wukong has completed his Journey to the West, protecting his master to bring the Buddha holy scriptures back to China. For this, Wukong was granted his Buddhahood title: Victorious Fighting Buddha. This title is equivalent to "God of War", which means that Wukong will represent Buddha in war and fighting under Buddha's name in the event where the universe is at war with each other. Otherwise, if there is no conflict of war, WuKong under his title, can live in peace for eternity.
Black Myth Wukong game is like a dark ending (non-canon) of the original story, where Wukong completely gave up his title and is forced into war with the Heaven and get killed, and through his own journey to be reborn. All the guys Wukong was fighting here had fought against in the past and ALL failed, except for the 3 eyes guy - Yang Jian Erlang Shen, who narrowly captured Wukong thanks to the help of many other people.

From the gameplay, it is an after story after wukong completed his mission escorting the monk to the west and obtaining the scriptures. Wukong who wanted to live a carefree life decided to quit being a buddha and return to his home land. The heavens worrying wukong not being in their or buddha control may wreck havoc again and decided to send an army to capture him back to heaven. 🤔

The story in this game seems to be happening after the original story, from the dialogue, it seems that the heaven is still trying to prosecute Wukong even after the original story ends and are now trying to kill Wukong’s fellow monkeys. and during Wukong’s fight with ErLang Shen, he seems to be affected by the tight spell that Tang SanZang enforced on him in Journey to the west, and defeated by ErLang shen and the heaven army. And the main character in this game seems to be one of Wukong’s descendants or fellow monkey who learnt what happened to Wukong Forman elder monkey, and is now starting a new journey to follow Wukong’s path and look for Wukong. All of those are my guess tho, I’m also very interested in what story would be told in this game.

According to this scene WuKong seemed to get tired of gods life and returned to his home named HuaGuo mountain. But the gods did't want WuKong to "retire" out of cautions or other purposes. So they sent heaven troops to get WuKong, and so the fight in the video begins. Also those who with WuKong to the west are not demons, they are YAOGUAI. YAOGUAI don't come from hell, instead they were animals and somehow reached the state where they can use supernatural powers. And YAOGUAI can also mean powerful spirits living in mortal realm.

For real and it seems like wukong didn't want to fight him due to some reason even though he had the upperhand in the fight especially he can transform into very strong form to defeat erlang and if not for the crown wukong would have defeated erlang because in novel erlang couldn't defeat him and needed help of all warriors and lao tzu to finally capture him

Guess by Chinese Standards, it's unfortunately mediocre! Well... From what I've seen from trailers in English, the Eng Dub at least seems to be (thankfully) pretty good...

I grew up watching the 1996 TVB Journey to the West. Big fan of the Monkey King lore. So excited to be able to play this game in a few days!
After watching this, I’m more excited about the epic story. I think the Erlang shen might be the fake one because Erlang shen as a Taoist god does not wear Buddhist breastplate. I also think the final Boss is not Erlang shen.

From what I remember in the stories Yang Jian is one of the celestial gods and the son of the Jade Emperor who was task to stop Wukong from destroying the heavens. I would not be surprised if Wukong ends up fighting Buddha in the game since he was the one who imprisons Wukong.

I'm buying this at the end of the month.
This version is different from the original. In the original version wukong is the opressor not the opressed. He's the one always looking for trouble and seeking more power. In the original the heavenly creatures don't want Wukong there and just accepted him there so him can't cause any trouble. This version somehow the heavenly creatures wants wukong there and he's just a monkey who wants to live in peace in his mountain wich is the oposite what moves wukong
It seems like this is a sequel to the original story. Wukong completed this journey to the west, and as he said in 1:43, he escorted his master Tang Sanzang to the west heavens, got the scriptures and brought them back.
Even within JttW, Wukong mellows out a lot during this pilgrimage compared to the time he seeked to be appointed as a god and then fought a one monkey war against all of heaven. And during the many times in the story where he had a falling out with Sanzang, Wukong goes back to Huaguosan to chill with monkey buddies. So with the completion of the pilgrimage, it's not a big surprise he would also end up going back to Huaguosan.
