His three piece bands always high-lighted top end players. There was never a slug in those trios. Johnny was a smart man. And he surrounded himself with virtuosos.Without exception, his bandmates were all exceptional players.
The meanest , the coolest , the baddest , the best ever , my biggest hero in life ! R.I.P I love you Johhny Winter with all my heart and soul and I think about you every single day of my life with the kindest thoughts , I am sending this link to my 9 years old daughter as I hope you reach my daughter's heart like you've reach mine ! All the best from Australia
They just don't make em anymore,,he was so special ,I grew listening to him and his brother ,,got to see him a couple times too, a bluesman to the max.
And great memories. I was lucky enough to see him on the same bill as the wonderful Taj Mahal in the 60's in Croydon England. Amazing, I have never forgotten them.
Of the more than a dozen times I saw Johnny Winter the first time was his comeback concert at New York's Nassau Coliseum in 1973 on his return from rehab. With the stage bathed in white light he came running out from between the amplifiers with the neck of the guitar in one hand and screamed his famous growl - the audience went wild. Edgar sat off stage right and his then-girlfriend Susie onstage playing tamborine and while stroking the neck of the guitar he approachd her in a phallic manner each time the crowd screaming. After 3 encoures we were exhausted. The best show I ever saw.
I saw that same tour at maple leaf gardens Toronto. If I recall correctly there were two drummers,Randy Jo Hobbs was on bass and the girlfriend with the tambourine. That night they took rock and roll to a level I didn’t think was possible. Up to the stratosphere. They would take a song that was a 4 or 5 minute recording on a studio album and turn it into 15 or 20 minute rock guitar masterpiece. R.I.P. John Dawson Winter.
@@jjp.8690 I must have seen him just before you in Detroit at Cobo Hall the back up band was Foghat. Want a fucking Great night for Rock And Roll :-) Peace
Lead guitar, bass guitar and drums. That's a whole lotta good sounds from just three instruments! And with all due respect to Tom Compton and whoever was on bass (Jon Paris, maybe?) Johnny Winter was a one man show! My all time favorite!
I got to see Johnny Winter In Concert 10 times, first time 1973 "Still Alive and Well" he was the best greatest of them all i saw many of the classic bands no one put on a concert like purist Super Star Guitar King Johnny Winter did, the real Super Star. I listened to Johnny Winter age 19 I was, my mouth hanging open, stoned, amazed at the fidelity, greatness in front of me, going through me the sound vibrations, the best music I ever heard. I'll get to see johnny Again when it is my turn, God Bless JDW 111 my biggest hero.
Luke and the Apostles band I was in at the time opened up for him at Massey Hall in Toronto, back in 70..got to spend some time with him and his band after the gig...very kool time!! great players and Johnny was awesome.. RIP..good memories!
Johnny Winter has forgotten more about playing "real blues" than most of today's pickers could ever hope to learn in a lifetime! We truly lost a giant of the blues when we lost him. For a long time to come, there's gonna be a lot of "wannabe bluesmen", both young and old, that are gonna get real frustrated trying to figure out Johnny Winter's style.
I got to see him twice, once in the early 90s and once in the late 90s and he never played slide that i can remember but he was playing the little headless Lazer guitars and lit that mother off like fuse on dyna🎉mite
Saw him first in '72. Derringer....THAT was the prime primo golden era more more more era of real Rock 'N' Roll guitar playing. A tradition I'm upholding. Play guitat. Blues Alarm fb page.
Johnny Winter is the most beautiful Shinning Star , I hope you're up there in the cosmos amongst all the others stars , know that I love you so much and there's not one day that I don't think of you . Thank you for your legacy . Bless you Johnny Winter. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
this sounds like i can imagine Jaimo and Butch and Berry a pulsating powerful driving force behind him with Duane alongside intertwining slide licks - heaven that would be
I saw Johnny a few times the first time was back in the seventies playing at the Roosevelt stadium in Jersey City playing on a school's out tour. Opening for Alice Cooper. GREAT concert, I also seen him at the Capitol theater in Passaic N.J. and right before he passed Adam rock and blues fest at the Mayo theater Leslie West also played good show considering. Time is catching up to all the great originals and it sucks ☹️ as the STONES song goes TiME WAiTS FOR NO ONE!!!!!😩. PEACE LOVE HÀPPINESS TOO ALL. ✌️🍻 🐶🥞🗽🎂🏈

I’ve heard countless people say that George Thorogood is a better slide player than Johnny. I say no fucking way. George is pretty good I’d say but he is nowhere at the level of Johnny Winter. Not even close.

The Master, one of my favorite musicians ever. He got it.
Kids this is a master class in slide guitar. A Gibson Firebird, a dose of smack and Johnny Winter. Eternal Greatness
I sorely miss this man, big time bad
Over the top....insanely talented.....master of the delta blues! Yeah....Johnny Winter Rocks!
i remember taking a friend named Carl to see Johnny, he had never heard of him before. Lol his face when the show started was priceless.
Making that '63 Firebird sing but what about the fabulous drum and cymbal work by Tommy Compton?? Whoa!!!
Is it even remotely possible for this guy to do anything short of awesome?
His three piece bands always high-lighted top end players. There was never a slug in those trios. Johnny was a smart man. And he surrounded himself with virtuosos.Without exception, his bandmates were all exceptional players.
True - and they wouldn't have played with him unless they knew what a genius he was
I saw him play this song live -just like thus. The whole show was amazing - i had never seen JW before & i did not want the show to end. RIP JW!
The soul of the Slide Guitar! The greatest and unforgetable Johnny Winter! Blues Master!!!!
None better, the wizard on slide, that amazing voice. I have been so lucky to see this amazing phenomenon of nature half a dozen times in my life
Same! The king.
I was a kid watching TV in the 80's in Chile and a Johnny Winter live performance was the first guitar player that blew my mind, as I remember.
Johnny Winter - The absolute, undisputed master of slide on a Gibson Firebird.

The ultimate guitar badass.
What can you say about a song so good that it makes you laugh, other than "Crazy Good!"
He was so humble. What a class act he was!
Huge JDW fan but I'm always impressed by the different kick-ass band mates he had . This is a prime example of that
Good Gawd, there will never be another Johnny!!
