- Ren Hi Ren. What can we say? We had no idea who Ren was or who he is period. But the one thing we can say is....WOW! We are speechless old guys. Ren, thanks for the amazing song..or skit...whatever you call it. It was deep, it was interesting and it was entertaining.
Hi Ren! Wow!
Do you want to know who this guest reactor is? Here is a video that tells you.

Fasten your seatbelts gentlemen, one hell of a ride on the way. Ren's catalogue is amazing, as diverse as you can imagine from rap, reggae, modern bard style and fantastic singing. Plus amazing videos and songwriting. I'm about to turn 52 and he is my favourite artist of all time
Always more and more 😅😅
Agreed, 42 here and i've never seen anything like it. And this is just the intro to Ren, you really wanna be impressed, check out "The Tale of Jenny and Screech (full video)". Enjoy the ride guys.
You're right, cause it will be such a journey for them! 🔥
@@twistedpixel756 I love the trilogy, it's astounding. But then I love Chalk outlines, How to be me, What you want, Losing it, Children of the moon, Humble, Ocean.............. It's impossible to suggest the next song to listen to. My current favourite is Heretic but that will no doubt change by next week.
I’ve been stuck in this rabbit hole for 8 months. Be
Pro tip: When you pause, go back 5 seconds when you restart so you don't miss lines of lyrics.
YES PLEASE
I once thought this wasn't a song to watch/listen to more than a couple of times but it never gets old which is so weird.
It's brain food.
And seems a little different "when eating a balanced diet" of each and and every bit of the Ren back catalogue and his newer tracks.
There are still tracks I haven't heard, I try not to binge them as allowing myself to process the thoughts and feelings they bring up is important.
But I keep coming back to this, and it's one of the few artists/tracks I've ever been able to watch reaction videos for...let alone dozens of reactions. New amazement each time.
There's so much to digest from his videos, you can go back and find something new in every rewatch. Watching these reactions videos, almost every one (I've seen a lot 🙂 ) has taken something different from it, or noticed something that the others haven't. It's really powerful stuff.
I used to think it was a ratehr heavy traumatic song, but ive grown to know it as a song of hope.
I can’t stop
When you pause in the middle of a flow...go back a few seconds, and listen to it in context. You're missing things
I have to say....I have heard reactions from this song from at least 20 different people/groups and I have to say.... I havent heard anybody close to be able to discuss this song nearly as intelligently as you 2 did.....OUTSTANDING GENTLEMEN!!!
Only 20? I tried to google 'How many Hi Ren reactions are there?' and couldn't find an answer. There has to be thousands by now. Ren said himself in January that there were like 10 a day but it's definitely snowballed since that. I wonder how many there are for RUclipsrs that don't primarily speak English but understand it? Gonna search Hi Ren Reaccion now.
@@progrocker2112 Wouldnt surprise me. Im also sure there are quite a few people Like Black Pegasus who does Hi Ren reactions over and over introducing new people to Ren. Ren deserves all the success he is receiving and as musically genius as I think he is he may be an even better marketer. Instead of copywrite striking his music, by embracing the reactions community he has gotten more people to listen to his music than many big money backed performers. Now its up to Ren to turn them into fans and he has done that to this 59 year old and many other older people outside of his demographic.
It was done in one take like many of his songs. This one apparently took 4 attempts
Try Knox hill. Best reaction I’ve watched out of maybe 50 I’ve watched over the past few months. This one was good too though!
@@mauriceireland5477This 58 year old agrees. I was starving for something like this and didn't even know it.
U picked the perfect time Ren just topped 17 million views on this and 1 million subscriptions. And he is staying independent. He almost died in his 20s and was bedridden for years. He knows who he is and what he wants.
This is the kind of artistry that gives "broken" people hope. Ren, through this performance piece, has become to a lot of people exactly what he stated in the song, "...the voice that you hear when you loosen the noose on the rope". So powerful, so impactful. The song structure itself is incredible. It starts off as a battle between his positive (Angel) and negative (Demon) aspects, the negative then makes an overpowering last ditch effort to reign supreme, tearing free and trying to take control, but ultimately fails as the final act, being the "God" aspect, emerges Triumphant, though still acknowledging and accepting that it will ALWAYS be a battle because we are all "a coin with 2 different sides". It's a beautifully cathartic and raw musical masterpiece. Ren is truly special. Welcome to the Ren rabbit-hole, it's a trip worth taking. This was the 4th take he did and yes, it was done live. Wait until you hear some of his other stuff, especially his storytelling ("The Tale of Jenny & Screech"). You haven't even touched the breadth of this young man's talent yet.
The pig character (imo) represents the doctors and therapist who have essentially butchered him for years through their misdiagnosis. It's the system that focuses on peddling more pills than on genuinely trying to help to fix broken/ill people, caring more about profit than individual health. The bastardization of the hippocratic oath. He literally thought he was going insane because he was told repeatedly that the pain and symptoms he was experiencing were all in his head (psychosomatic). He had reached a point where he literally resigned himself to dying before he reached 30. Turns out he had Lyme's disease the whole time and it ran rampant through his system for 10 years, even to the point of causing brain damage. Ironically, if Ren hadn't gone through what he has, would he have ever made the art he has? There's no question that his suffering has shaped his music and now he's finally getting the recognition he undoubtedly deserves. I've said it before, I'll say it again, Ren is special.
"How do you develop an ocean? How do you develop a mountain?" Yes!
You hit the nail on the head! He is a musical genius and he has spent a decade or more busking his music on the street corners of Brighton, England. He had a huge catalog. So welcome gentlemen to the rabbit hole of Ren.
Please join the millions of us who have fallen in love with Ren and his music. Please do more reactions to his music
Haunting melancholy of 'Chalk Outlines' to hard flow rap like 'The Hunger' and relaxing chill like 'Ocean' to the ferocity of 'Sick Boi'.
Ren has it all.
Social commentary like 'Money Game' to heartbreaking drama of 'The tale of Jenny and Screech'.
His fans call it Bardcore!
for chalk outlines the live version that is 10x better
I'm only a few minutes in and you guys have already realized that Ren bends genres. You get just how talented he is. I have just come from another Hi Ren reaction and that guy was so disrespectful. You could see in his eyes that he didn't have what it take s to get it. You got it so quickly. Thank God for old guys. Edit, it took 3 or 4 takes to get it right. Final edit. Thank you.
I bet it was the same guy I watched a portion of. Was he supposedly a therapist and just talking so much CRAP about the atmosphere?
Here is some additional information on Ren's story that I gathered from old newspaper interviews, articles, and Ren's public livestreams and posts. None of the information was gathered from sources that Ren did not personally approve for release to the public. Ren is a British musician/independent artist/producer; originally from Wales. Ren pursued a career in music from an early age. In 2009, while studying music performance at Bath Spa University, Ren began to experience health issues and was struggling to attend his lectures, which eventually caused him to discontinue his studies and return home. In addition, Ren was signed by Sony Records in 2010 and was working on an album when his health deteriorated to the point that he was unable to go on; consequently, his contract with Sony was dissolved. Ren would later relocate to Brighton.
Ren's illness often kept him in bed for up to 23 hours daily. Ren was initially misdiagnosed with depression, bipolar disorder, and chronic fatigue syndrome, which led him to experience psychosis and develop PTSD. It would take seven years before a doctor in Belgium finally correctly diagnosed Ren with autoimmunity, Lyme disease, and resulting damage to the brain, organs, joints, and PTSD. Ren eventually underwent stem cell therapy in the United States, which improved his health, but it has not been a cure.
Ren is currently in Calgary, Canada, for more treatments, including surgeries, and will have to be there for at least six months (Summer of 2023) undergoing IV and other interventions five days a week. Ren recently underwent wisdom tooth removal and cavitation surgery. In addition, his Canadian doctor discovered that Ren also developed a condition called Mast Cell Activation Disorder (MCAD), which has affected the myelin sheath in his brain, his thyroid, and adrenals as well as his bones/joints. Now, Ren is receiving additional treatments for this previously undiagnosed condition.
Let's keep supporting Ren as he undergoes his treatments. Check out and subscribe to his channel; if you are a content creator, ask your audience to subscribe to Ren. Ren's YT channel has less than 1 million subscribers, while his videos have garnered millions and millions of views. Listen to some of his earlier work, like and comment on his performances, and let's lift Ren's spirits. If you are a believer, pray for him. Ren is an artist with something to say to the world, and his work is important in these troubling times. Someone has finally created a Wikipedia page for Ren, so there is additional information available.
🥰
Thanks for all this info. I notice Ren's channel has finally passed 1 million, yesterday I think 🤩
@@mogsydog Awesome. That was way overdue. I cannot for the life of me understand how his channel does not already have millions of subscribers, given the popularity and number of views of his videos and reactions to them. "Murderer" will be released today. I am looking forward to it.
Hi Jens. These guys really get Ren unlike the last reactor I watched. You know, the one with the goatee who was so disrespectful. I won't return to that channel but I subscribed to these two even before they had finished because they have the depth within them to value what Ren is doing. Blessings to you, my friend.
I knew some of that but wow his health is even worse than I thought, thank you so much. Keith From Plymouth UK.
He is a preacher of the modern condition. I am 66yo and discovered Ren about 3 months ago he is a genius, a story teller and an artist in the truest sense of the word. I was getting jaded by the music offered by the media. He is , I would say on a par with the greatest of story tellers, poets & visionaries. He has renewed my interest in music & I now actively search out the different.
Ren's the 🐐, he does it all... Sings, Raps, plays multiple instruments, does his own mixing and productions...and quite the story teller!
The “who hoo , hoo” hits different the second time he sings it after listening to the whole song lol
Ren is dropping a new video today. he's independent of industry control. just reached 1 million subs on youtube yesterday!! we all love him, learn his back story and you might as well. he's got a fabulous catalog. he can be dark, but i love it! Ren's fans (before i found him) crowd funded thousands of dollars for Ren to get to a different country for specialized medical treatment. he's out of the clinic for a while cuz he's doing better. i think he is in the uk recording. i am loving your reaction. do more ren, many will be back to watch.
4 takes..
Ren is not "religious", but he is certainly plugged into the Source of LOVE. Music saved his life; he poured his pain out on paper while he suffered and never held back. It was his therapy. He wrote recently that music is the closest thing to God that he knows. I enjoyed your reaction a lot, and I'm subbing in the hopes that you will explore more of his material.
dude almost cried
Great reaction to a genius masterpiece...!
Such a thoughtful and respectful reaction! Please do more Ren reaction videos!
His catalog is really broad. He honed those skills busking in Brighton, UK, check out the band The Big Push that he played with there as well. I think he's the most versatile artist to come out of the UK since Bowie, especially as he's got awesome acting skills.
Was also in the band Trick the Fox, some good stuff there too (street lights!) Interviews and earlier raw versions of songs themes and ideas he would use later
Ren is a modern day bard. His storytelling is unparalleled.
on Ren's YT channel, this song went from 750,000 views to 15m in 2 months... i think a lot of people get his message, he's also just passed 1m subscribers. the Ren rabbit hole is a wonderous journey 😎🤘
Respect & Peace ☘
Gents, Ren is a breath of fresh air to the music world. You absolutely MUST check out "The Tales of Jenny & Scheech (full)" and also his collaboration with the artist CHINCHILLA called "Chalk Outlines." He is an incredible artist who has changed a lot of lives, including my own as someone who is physically ill along with mental illness and how they effect each other.
Absolutely. @OldGuyReactions seem /wise old men/ to respond. Ren - The Tale of Jenny & Screech (Official Music Video) 👍
Echoing Chalk Outlines. Phenomenal song, and Chinchilla is incredible in her own right with her performance.
I have watched 100's of reactions and your reaction was inciteful, intelligent, and wonderful. Thank You.
Wow, thank you!
"I'm leaving here with... stuff" same here guys, same here
It never gets old watching people find Ren. Welcome to the rabbit hole.
And his dark side Sin asked where's your Grammy Ren nowhere. This deserves at bare minimum a Grammy Nomination!
Great job guys! I’m a 65 year old man who grew up on metal and rock, but listened to R&B, Pop, Country and a little bit of Hip-Hop / Rap, so trust me when I say I have not seen anyone as diverse as Ren. Whether solo or with his band The Big Push or collaborations with Chinchilla, Sam Tompkins and Eden Nash, everything he does is captivating. Never heard of the others, you will if you decide to go down the very deep Ren rabbit hole. Enjoy the trip down through it. Oh yeah, you mentioned about how does he remember all the words, well here is a live stage performance he posted about 2 weeks ago: ruclips.net/video/chr0eMNEatw/видео.html
Just turned 65 myself yesterday, and I completely agree. There really seem to be no limits to his versatility, as a singer, rapper, storyteller, videographer...etc., etc. And as you touched on, Ren consistently partners with other talented people. It's obvious he doesn't worry about anyone else stealing the limelight--he just wants the best performance possible.
I'm turning 64 later this year and I've never seen anyone with this much talent. Ren being a humble and kind person is the icing on the cake.
@@timpwhit Happy Birthday and welcome to the club! 🤣🤣
@@Proud.American58 Thanks, dude. I'd rather be a member of the Mile High Club, but with any luck there's still time!!😝😝
@@timpwhit Agreed! 🤣🤣🤣
Ren is a chameleon!!! STYLEBENDER! There is NOTHING musically he cannot do. He can write (musically and written word), sing, beatbox, act, rap, produce beats from scratch. He is a genius and MANY amazing and deep songs. Ren does NOT care about people reacting to his music and does not require people pause it for copywrite. Just that the spread and enjoy it. He will personally remove strikes of his content as he has all rights being not signed. There is SOOO much I could say but more will fill you in! can't wait to see more! He calls music like this "bardcore". Which is an amazing term because before I knew he even ran with that phrase. I felt like I time travel when I listen to Ren's music back to a time when "Bards" told stories through song and dance! 4:00 This is performances art as it was done live and in 1 take. It took 3 or 4 takes and this video was complete with the 1 take they wanted.
Last edit: 11:20 Thanks for the deep conversation you 2 get and appreciate the song in many ways. New sub gl!
11:32 I lied lmao you made me pause. Like I said Ren is a chameleon and has MANY melodies. You are right in that, this "song/piece of art" isn't for everyone sonically. Check out more. Ren has meaning and melody/rhythm! ;)
Yayyy! I have watched so many reactions to this video, but have never seen reactors clearly”get” it so quickly. Go down the rabbit hole, I’ll be with you for the ride. 🙂
Gentleman on the left looked just like I felt when I first got hit with that “some people know me as the voice you hear when you loosen the noose on the rope” line. Was almost hard to breathe for a minute.
And he polished his musical skills busking on the streets of Brighton for many, many years.
"HI" to both of you - GREAT reaction, wise reaction, feel you...🥹👌🏼 welcome to Ren's brilliant rabbit hole, this is a beautiful RENaissance - go for it !!!
Greetings, another oldie from Germany 👋🏼
I loved your comments on Rens art, thank you gentlemen
Peaking through his journal is a excellent comment 😮
Great reaction guys! Ren really is a special cat. So versatile too. I don’t like to throw around the word genius, but this guy really is something else. Incredible story teller. Brilliant musician and singer
Hope to see more Ren reactions
Cool to find ya'lls channel, I genuinely loved the breakdown and talk. This was done in "one-take" but split over 4 shoots before they got it. There's also some part of the ending where I think Sam (his director) said they clipped in something from a previous session.
He does a song called Money Game which is also another one of his one-takes and that one supposedly took like 100-110 tries (I can't remember the number) before they nailed it
Was about to say this
hello old guys,
congratulations - you've just entered Renˋ's gold mine!
Pick whatever you want, it's just awesome.
His band "The big Push", his solo work, pick one:
it is the right one. Greetings to you (you have a new subscriber) 🤝👏👍
Ren also has a band called The Big Push. Check them out. They were busking and sang I Shot the Sheriff, Road to Zion and Hiphop. I'm from Ohio and never heard of busking and it's a street performance
How do you develop an ocean. What a fucking line to describe Ren. Amazing reaction guys.....go down the ren rabbit hole...it's a trip.
I love, every time, how the falsetto singing at the beginning causes such discomfort and at the end it’s the most comfortable, sensible sound you could imagine.
It only took 4 takes and they chose the best. He has given voice to many.
welcome to the Ren rollercoster. As next I recommend from/with Ren: "The Big Push - I Shot the Sheriff/Road to Zion/Hip Hop", "Ren - The Hunger", "Ren X Chinchilla - Chalk Outlines (live)" or "Ren - The Tale of Jenny & Screech (Official Music Video)" this are in my opinion the best intruduction to Ren.
Perfect list to start with
The long haired guy looks like someone straight out of the lord of the rings.
The word you’re looking for Gentlemen is ‘Masterpiece’ 3:58
Awesome reaction. Loved the deeper analysis you guys went into.
Ren is one of a kind. A maestro with a message.
Yes, it was! Great analogy.
I really enjoyed your reaction, thank you. Go for the Tale of Jenny and Screech (full version) - bardcore at its very best!
From start to end enjoyable reaction. Hope to see you guys check out more of Ren's gold mine.
'Ren - The Tale of Jenny & Screech' (3 parts 1 video) next please! 🙏 It's another next level jaw dropper.
You're welcome 🙂👍
Ren is therapy for so many from one song he helps so many people open up in ways therapists struggle to do in person. We as consumers and fans of his music and his message need to push his channel he should have millions of subs on his channel this is a crime he's saves people with his music or at least helps them by them opening up and talking
It was one out of four takes, although he had rehearsed it to death and said that he could only enjoy it again when he saw the reaction channel's reacting to it. Great reaction 👍
🔥🔥🔥 Reaction Guys. Not my favourite reaction, but my favourite conversation regarding this video. Salute 😎❤️💛💚🖤🇯🇲
Please react to The tale of Jenny and Schreech, full version. It is a trilogy of one take street bard story telling reflecting intergenerational violence, trauma, abuse. Brilliant! Also you will enjoy his busking covers of I shot the Sherriff with his band The Big Push. Ren is soooooo diverse and talented. He is surrounded by very talented collaborators too.
Ren stays true to himself and independent so he can do his own thing. Love him!
Welcome to the world of Ren, brace for impact! (the kid should be a household name globally he's that good!).
"Narcisism vs Nihilism" was a brilliant remark. Amazing reaction all the way. Instant sub.
Welcome to the crazy inspiring world of Ren Gill.
I discovered Ren back in January and hes continued to blow my mind.
I'm 63 and was losing hope in new music until this dude came along.
Great reaction guys 👌
You should try the Tale of Jenny & Screech trilogy, another mind blowing masterpiece.
All the best fellas x
Dive in head first, full force and hold on tight. You've got a long, beautiful and wonderfully intense road to travel.
Thanks gents from another old guy! I really enjoyed your thoughtful reaction. 'Hi Ren' is something I wish I could hear for the first time over and over but these reactions are the next best thing! I haven't been so impacted by a performance since the Sex Pistols exploded onto the scene in the UK. You made a great point about the contradictions faced by an artist when they become part of the music industry. Seeing Ren on youtube shows that there is another way to reach people on your own terms. Pink Floyd talk about it on the 'Wish you were here' album with 'Welcome to the machine'. I look forward to exploring more of your reactions especially more of Ren!
I thought the same thing about this song. I didnt think i would be able to listen to it recreationally. But i often find myself humming or singing this song as i work. It might be because this song helped me find a voice to combat my own inner demons.
In my opinion, it will go down as a classic.
Great reaction guys.
I often find myself singing what I call the “victory oooos” 😂
He did 4 live takes, and picked the best one.
to answer your question ren has said in the black pegasus interview that they took 3 takes to get this one take. Ren has a very diverse catalog that goes through different styles and genres. if you go down the rabbit hole into ren's catalog you won't be disappointed. he also writes all his songs he makes his own beats and does the production and he is a multi instrumentalist.
The next one should be a trilogy "The Tale of Jenny & Screech". I swear to god you will be more than just speechless after that!
The Tale of Jenny and Screech is another great piece of art from Ren. I don't enjoy all of his work, but most of it, I and what I do like is spectacular.
Incredible gents - calling this is a reaction is selling short your efforts… it’s part critical analysis, part education. The level of perception is beyond anything else I’ve seen. I look forward to the next leg of your Ren journey.
Subscribed!
Yes! More Ren please! "Tale of Jenny and Screech" full version next please❤
Yes, please do more Ren. I (as I'm sure many others will have said) have watched many reactors do Hi Ren... but this was a joy to watch. Both of your thoughts on this were insightful, intelligent, and respectful. Thank you. Wonderful.
I'll say it again; YES, PLEASE DO MORE REN.
Great Reaction, he has 125 videos all brilliant, with his band The Big Push another 75, ALL truly worth watching, he is one in 7 Billion. And not signed to a record label so has total control!
He IS the genius playing on the street as you will no doubt discover! Subbed!
You guys are going to have so much *FUN* diving down the Ren Rabbithole - you already nailed that he’s the genius standing on the corner, he started busking as a teenager. He has SO MUCH music for you to discover and enjoy, in so many different styles - It’s like my joy when I was a teenager and I discovered Led Zeppelin in 1977 when I bought Physical Graffiti- f’kn loved it. Went back to the record store and I was floored to find out they had 7 or 8 other albums to discover. 🤯
🤘🏼🎧🤟🏼
And the Ren rabbit hole begins! Love watching ppl react to Ren and being blown away by his talent! Recommend these songs from Ren to get you going on this journey-
The Tale of Jenny & Screech (full trilogy)
The Hunger
Losing It (Fisher rap retake)
What you want
Chalk outlines featuring Chinchilla
Also recommend listening to his band - The Big Push - these are my favourites
War Pigs cover
I shot the Sheriff/Road to Zion
Praise you
I hope you two do many other Ren reactions because I loved the way your brain worked, LOL, and your insights. There is soooo much to discover and believe me it isn't all negative. He goes into deep valleys with dark sometimes hurtful stuff but takes us also on high summits with light and funny things. He IS a pendulum, eternally swaying from dark to light. From crying to laughing is just a small step in Ren's world.
Totally agree. Getting paid to do what you love is NOT selling out. I only consider it selling out if you compromise or cheapen what you do to position yourself to get paid for it.
I just found you and subbed right away.
Did you happen to notice that this video just broke 17 million views.
He is definitely connecting.
He is completely independent and does NOT conform to anyone elses ideals.
Please oh please do more Ren.
I would love to hear your thoughts.
You are about to go down the REN rabbit hole lads & you will not regret it, this lad is a GENIUS nothing he can't do. Check his street performance of I shot the sheriff & many more fantastic musical video's.
I know so many people that see this will be diving down the React to Ren rabbit hole.
I find every reaction fascinating, the differences and similarities.
You two are actually one of the more insightful reactions earlier on in the song which must come down to life experiences (not saying "cause your old"). But even then, watching the portrait or manifestation of the internalised voice come to life, everyone has that "oh yeah, shit, that makes sense" moment.
I hope that @RenMakesMusic see this, as it's a good take.
Excellent reaction. I'm sure others have told you that this song, and others in his catalog, are based on his own struggles with a 10-year misdiagnosis and treatment for a condition he didn't have, as well as the devastating suicide of his best friend when he was younger. This guy is a true artist in every sense of the word. His vulnerability and uncanny ability to convey the experience and emotions of his life have finally started to pay off.
It's good for my soul watching people react to 'Hi Ren'. Watching the look on people's faces, you can see the literal second when they go from analysis to being engrossed.
I would suggest the Tales of Jenny and Screech and Violet's Tale, it will say "full movie" for all three tales, then Genesis, then Busking with The Big Push Reggae tunes, Busking with Sam, Money Game videos, Losing it, there's so much more!! I can't wait to see your reactions! I'm a massive Ren fan and love his creative genius. I'm an "old gal" so I'm old enough to be Ren's mother.. LOL! I'm into music that counts, art that counts, and people with a meaningful story to tell so I absolutely love Ren. Thanks so much!!
Oh my goodness! You two gentlemen are great! Fab reaction. I am so excited to see you discover more from the genre-bending Ren. He is a self taught musician who can literally do it all! Guitar/piano/mixing his own beats/produce/SING sing/ RAP rap. Then there are his busking videos (live street performance's) with his band "The Big Push".
Another outstanding set of videos are "The Tales of Jenny & Screech" (full version) 3 videos that have to be watched in order. With those videos he coined the phrase, Bard-Core from his fans (because he is like a modern day Shakespeare). He is an absolute genius. Please PLEASE continue down the Ren rabbit hole 🐰🕳️
You won't be disappointed, and I for one will be subscribing to your channel. (Not that anyone should care 😂).
You are both very insightful. Thankyou for this.
Sending love from the UK. 💕
I can't wait for you to dig into his repertoire! Some of my recommendations: "The tale of Jenny, Screech & Violet", "Chalk Outlines" with Chinchilla, "Hunger", "Murderer" & the live performance of "I Shot The Sheriff/Road To Zion/Hip Hop" with the band The Big Push.
You guys got so many key points so quickly, it was brilliant.
As to genre, Ren jokingly calls it Bardcore, but I think it's pretty similar to the singer/songwriter and folk artist vibe, but with a clear overlay of incisive wordplay from the beat poets.
Great conversation, thank you! Ren is the real thing, a true artist. 🌻
"A peak into his journal" - what an apt metaphor for this piece!
Every Ren video you pull up will surprise you. He's a musical chameleon. He's as comfortable doing hip hop, reggae, metal, pop, folk, classical, like everything. His well is bottomless.
Oh i can't wait to see what you guys think about his catalog. He'll never cease to amaze you. I promise.
I am mental health nurse of 20 years, and that last monologue delivered a message about internal voices and psychosis better than I have ever managed, and more importantly explains the need to live with the psychosis instead of defeating it, finding a life within your experience that isnt just about combating something you want gone that cant leave.
Hoping to see more Ren reactions
I loved y’alls stunned silence when the video ended… you are going to truly enjoy going down the Ren Rabbit Hole, discovering Rens many musical styles … no matter what he does, he does it well. I think Hi Ren is a beautiful piece of art & Ren is a master artist.
I enjoyed your reaction video … it’s actually one of my favorite reactions & I’ve seen a whole, whole lot of them … I like to say my new hobby is watching Ren reaction videos. I search out anything I’ve missed or for anything new… I’m glad I found y’alls & I’ll keep a lookout for any more Ren from your channel. Thanks
Peace ☮️
More Ren please.
Loved your reaction. Subbed 🙂
Enjoyed your reaction!!💯
REN is our Morden day Shakespeare..
Great Reaction! Ren is the Original "Bardcore Genre Bender" The Master Bard himself ( Shakespeare ) would have understood exactly where Ren was coming from. Ren isn't just a songwriter but rather a Performance Art Master who blends music and character acting from all the styles over the last 500 years and makes it modern and relatable to all generations even if normally you may not be a fan of whatever genre he is currently performing. The Ren Rabbit Hole is Deep and Powerful! You mentioned Street Performers, look up Ren's band The Big Push I shot the Sheriff-Road to Zion-Hip Hop
Ren is championing the phrase “a rising tide lifts all ships”. His music captures a large number of listeners in a way I’ve never seen before in my 44 years. Watching others experience his art, and it is art, is addictive. You’ll gain more subscribers through Ren reactions than any other artist and you’ll not enjoy any other artist more, trust me. Check out my public playlist, you can’t go wrong then. Great reaction, up there in the top ten and I’ve seen them all….
Ren x Chinchilla - Chalk Outlines. Live version.
I was the same, this song caught me by surprise. The above is one of his songs that I love also.
Welcome to the multitalented musical genius that is Ren. This is just the tip of the iceberg. I love how you realised so early on that it was a live one shot performance even without noticing the mic. Ren is something very special. Hope to see you deep down the Ren rabbit hole with the rest of us ❤
Welcome to the Ren train guys! Great reaction and happy to want to dig deeper. You will not be disappointed, Ren is easily the most important artist of this generation.
The RENegade community is ever growing, diverse and amazing, we hope you stay.
They had to do only 3 takes to get this one, truly astonishing
Watching this I feel like through this reaction you figured out how talented and deep Ren can be... You called out so much about this song, and his multi genre ability and that he is one of those people killing it on a street corner.
Enjoy this rabbit hole, you won't regret a second of it!
Holy crap did you guys nail so much! He literally _was_ a street corner musician, discovered by Sony, but then he started hearing auditory hallucinations (and even seeing them sometimes) that he'd thought were long gone from his childhood. Combined with extreme fatigue, he was misdiagnosed with depression and bipolar disorder, when it was really Lyme Disease.
From what I've read, this was filmed in one take with multiple cameras. And it only took four takes to capture this one. Ren is imparting universal messages that speak to us on a very deep level and it's a testament to his authenticity and art, forged from deep pain, that he's resonating with such a broad audience. I've watched his video many times but I'm really enjoying sharing the experience with people who are only seeing it for the first time. You "old guys" reacted to Ren in a particular way based on your history and personal experience, and that's what is wonderful about all these different reactions.
I'm 57 and I love this guy. He's diverse and amazing. He has so much talent and skill - he's an awesome storyteller and diverse. I highly reccommend a deep dive into his incredible rabbit hole. He actually has worked as a busker too, so you're observations aren't wrong. Ren is the genuine article.
Interesting reaction, The Tales of Jenny and Screech might be the next step in the Ren journey.
I love that you nailed his bisking background without knowing! 😂🎉❤ Hands down one of the most insightful reactions I've seen! Welcome to the Renegades, gentlemen!
