Thank you so much for sharing this! I know it wasn't easy! I just spent 2 days trying to save our first litter, lost all 8. Sad this is that it could have been avoided, had I been able to find the information I was looking for. It was super sad, and of course I feel like I totally failed mama pig, but if I can help anyone else in the future, then it's not a complete loss... right? I will be posting a video about our experience as well... just still recovering myself, ya know. You kids are awesome and soooo brave! Thanks again for sharing!
have raised pigs for years and still have a pet pig named pearl, this happens, not easy but good job doing what you could. this is why i feel farm kids have so much better understanding when it comes to live and how precious it truly is. love the fact that you guys shared such a hard subject in such a loving way.
That means so much. This is still pretty sore for us since it only happened a few weeks ago, and your encouragement helps 🙂Thank you for your kind words
It's even harder to film, edit, and describe the events, watching them over and over. This was one of the hardest episodes to release, and the support we've received is inspiring
So very sorry for your losses! Keep moving forward and learning...this has certainly helped me better prepare for when we welcome pigs to the homestead xo
Honestly, you kids did great making a tough decision but I'd say the lesson that should have been learned is to put up a farrowing pen with safety rails so mamma doesn't lay on the babies.
Update: my sow birthed only one out of twelve. My lesson was dont let mamma get fat b/c the piglets will not get through the birth canal. The second piglet could not get past mamma's pelvic bones and every time we reached in to pull it out, it would slip farther back. All the other piglets died inside mamma before we could get them out from the side. We lost mamma and 11 piglets and gained only one orphan. I watched this video before my sow was due. Unfortunately homestead life is not an easy life and not for every one. Looking back at this video i still believe this family did good but it's still a hard lesson to learn, even if the animal is just food.

Hearing that this may help someone, even a little, makes this difficult story worth sharing. Thank you

Hey… you live and learn, right? Not always easy, but you move forward taking your knowledge with you. You did all you could.

A sad, hard lesson learned 😔
Piglets kithogiruwa mansha
You guys keep pigs as pets or as food?
Great news
😔🙏🏻💐
Valiant effort! Great attitude though - learn what you can from it.... serious drama on this episode.
Thank you, Dylan! It definitely was difficult to edit this one
Baby boars are way better than ugly piglets
See your Holly book. What say about pigs
