Most of the comments from commentators here are missing the whole awesomeness of this video! Its The Toowoomba Range they have just climbed, This climb its epic on its own let alone with a load that huge. Also some of the Symphony orchestras have to practice for years to make beautiful music, what you witnessed here was pure Symphony!
Depends on the terrain. One truck is not pulling that load up a steep grade. Even large haul tractors like the Mack M45 can only pull so much before drive axle traction becomes a huge issue. The Mack M100 was rated to pull 1000 tons but eventually a grade will present a problem. Also road conditions play a role as well, are you always going to be on a paved road? Next time, please think before you speak. Finland isn't the land of magical trucks.
thats correct but the main deal with the trucks in this video was to get it up the range. if you want to see what im talking about go to texast525 (owner of this vid) and have a look at his video toowoomba range in mack superliner and you will see why they needed the trucks.
@cromboldWVU Actually some severe duty semi trucks can pull over 1000 tons alone. The world record for weight pulled by one semi on flat ground is 2.8 million pounds which is 1400 tons. But a load that heavy would destroy the roads and be impossible to slow down when going downhill. That's why they always use a couple trucks in case one loses its brakes or something. You wouldn't want to risk damaging a multimillion dollar load or losing control and killing people.
This video is taken at the topgoing through town, the range is insane, every day trucks get stuck ( clutch damage, broken tail shafts etc), in 2004 they brought a load up to the power station, it was the biggest ever moved in Australia, it got stuck halfway up the range & was there for over a week, even before they got to the range they had big problems, it sank through the highway surface & struggled to pull over the earth surface. I will find pics I took & post with a link.
@lordtaw 1000 tons pulled by one truck? I doubt that. And even if it could move it (on level ground), no company would dare rate a truck for 1000 tons because the first downhill grade and the trailer will be in control.
@shereboi 550 tons is nothing for most semis. Some severe duty trucks can pull 1400 tons as demonstrated a couple years ago by a stock Mack truck in Australia. It's not surprising since some trucks can produce over 200,000 lb-ft of torque at the axles in first gear.
If you know anyone that's working a power station project, they would know. I'm guessing that went to Darling Downs power station between Dalby and Kogan.
well im currently getting my HR lic and when i was sitting in side an RMS centre i over heard a pommy asking the same question and he got told too a driving test for what ever class was equivalent he had for an Australian one thats all i know.
Actually one truck can pull a lot more than 550 tons, baldymp3. The world record was set by a Mack Titan truck in Australia in February of 2006. It pulled 113 trailers weighing a total of 2,865,980 lbs! That's 1,433 tons! It was a completely stock truck with a 620 hp, 2050 ft-lb. torque engine, and an 18-speed transmission. It also had three drive axles. There are semi trucks out there with even bigger engines and 10 wheel drive, so yes it is possible to pull over 550 tons with one truck.
There's a lot of talk about pulling power from folks that prolly know way more about pulling than I do. however, many of those commenters have prolly never driven a truck, fully laden, up or down the Toowoomba range. The heavy truck recovery companies will tell you about the overconfident operators that have underestimated how cruel that stretch of HI way can be to clutches and for that matter, the entire drive train on trucks, also inexperienced/ overconfident drivers that soon find out just how difficult a tire fire is to extinguish, once all that metal heats up during prolonged braking It's way nastier than "Pretty Sally" that little hill on the way to Melbourne. In summary, it's just like a lot of road signs in Australia state: Drive to prevailing road conditions Those signs are open to a lot of interpretation and driver discretion On departure from many places, Aussie truck drivers often call out the best advise; "keep the greasy side down, and the shiny side up mate"
seems people are not familiar with australian road conditions. these ranges you have to climb from almost every town on the east coast is fucking steep. and they go for kms. most are well over 10% gradient. once at the top of these ranges most of them trucks will dissapear and pulled by 2 or 3 trucks. and why use 1 truck and burn it out when you can use 3 and its much easier on the gear and much more efficient. hell watched a vid of a peterbuild move 800t by itself hardly blooody moved.
Yeah, they usually don't pull loads over 400,000 lbs. with just one semi tractor. It's too risky and dangerous. Can you imagine if the truck lost its brakes or if the engine stalls going uphill. They need to use more than one truck so they can have enough control over the load. That way if one tractor loses traction or its brakes, the others can prevent the whole load from going out of control and possibly destroying millions of dollars of equipment, or even killing someone.
@cromboldWVU Although 1000 tons sounds like a bit of a stretch, the M100 hauls 100 tons on its back off road. A tractor when properly ballasted could easily pull 10 times its gross capacity. I am not suggesting one truck *should* be used to solo such a load but rather it technically could. The moron below: dowdell25 has ZERO technical knowledge of trucks. BIG heavy haulers don't have clutches as they would most likely have a monster Allison or a Clark Power Shift transmission.
Super HYE man try wich 1 tractor and stop with jacob brake 550 tonnes Crazy man L'm drive in Canada wich 55 tonnes on 4 axels trailer and i'm watch the traffic for make sure to stop
Where are you people getting your info even if they were a auto there are still clutches you mean no clutch pedal and that is also incorrect. road ranger gear box with a Joey box on the side this means 18 gears in standard road ranger with a 4 speed Joey box will then give you18x4=72 speed gear box and that ultra slow crawl is how they get a load moving off the line protecting driveline and yeah ya cld probably shift a massive weight with one truck but you cldnt control it so really it can't

saaaweeeet keep the vids comin like to c the big stuff rare to move that many tons in the states
awesome work jon, great vid and thats a damn big shift!
WOW THIS IS AWESOME JON!!
Dat v8 from the Mack is fucking AWSOME and the scanias
Thankyou

That’s 4000 horsepower right there!
Awesome trucks

that truck is a western satr with a 600hp cat ,18 speed and a 4 speed auxillary

That is freakin cool! Most i have ever seen is a push/pull setup with a set of drives on the trailer. this makes that look like kid shit
Half a million kilograms, wow!

It was on much flatter ground, not pulling up a mountain range.
Yeah but this was being hauled up a mountain. Not a flat runway or highway.
Whats the weight of the heaviest load ever!
This one here seems to be a Scania. The new Volvo FH16 has i think 700hp or something like that.
oh yeah and john atkinson, the bloke you are talking about, went all of 100 metres.
How many hp are there at work?!?!
I thing so 2000
greatings from Germany and 5*
@MrPeter2004 It's 550 tons, or 1.1 million pounds.
The heaviest i ever pulled is between 150 tones(gross weight) using a volvo f16 low bed hauling heavy equipments
@lordtaw I can assure you all those truck have clutches
There's a lot of talk about pulling power from folks that prolly know way more about

i dont know the first thing about 'trucking'... but is 6 trucks really necessary?
deffinatley keen for some feedback :)
Steep hill needs lots of power to climb.
More power and more traction.
Impressive
That was amazing!!!!
when you take a 550t load up the Toowoomba range you would need all the trucks for the combined hp
seems people are not familiar with australian road conditions.

6 trucks? I would call that overkill
where is john kelly the boss
Super

Hehe, 2'nd one is swedish v8 =)
Send it
in finland one truck pull loads like that..
24 tyre's on the trailer were spares.
