Jay & Amber, you'll love his "Here Comes My Girl", "Don't Do Me Like That" "American Girl" and "Refugee"!!! Great early Tom Petty songs.
Break Down
All great suggestions!
@@jeanstrickland2445 thanks!
All great selections!
@@Lemons66 thanks!
Mike Campbell on the guitar killing it like always. He and Benmont (piano) are the ones who were with the band start to finish.
Benmont Tench.
@@NeverTalkToCops1 III!
I was a huge fan of Howie Epstein when he joined the band. It's a shame that he got into heroin and it just devoured him.
Tom was an excellent songwriter. He is deeply missed.😢 ☮❤🎶
Nobody sings like Tom Petty, very unique, great song choice .
THAT is for sure. Fantastic. And I always thought he was a very good looking man as well. LOL🎸🎶🎼🎤💕
I would make the exception of Bob Dylan.. They have the same type of voice in my ear..
@@ENDTIMEsVideoLibrary No kidding? LOL. I don't hear it. I'm actually glad because I find Bob Dylan's voice a bit irritating and some what whiny. I mean I *can* hear a similarity between the two, but definitely more of a nasal tone in Dylan.
My wife and mines first date was to see a Tom Petty concert at the Pittsburgh Civic Arena in 1980. Here we are forty three years later and Mr Petty still holds a special place in our shared memories. Whenever his music is playing he helps us to recall our younger, more carefree selves. Thank you so much Tom. RIP
Cool! My future hubby & I saw him a couple of times in the early 80's, always fantastic in concert! We almost got mugged going into the arena, but luckily escaped!!
Yes, this is one of his songs from their earlier albums from the "Hard Promises" albums released in 1981 and it is one of his very best. Some more great Petty songs are "Refugee," "Change of Heart," "Learning to Fly," "The Last DJ," "American Girl," and "Breakdown" to name a few.
You Got Lucky
@@brianmcmaster5112 The Last DJ and Saving Grace became some of my favs from his newer "Solo" stuff
@@brianmcmaster5112 You got lucky❤❤ Always

Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers "YOU GOT LUCKY" (original video) is my favorite of all their songs ❤
You two will absolutely love “Listen to her heart” “Here comes my girl” and “Even the Losers” !
Yes!
Yes!!
My favorite is one that Petty fans rarely mention “ You Got Lucky”, you should check that one out one day, love the music video , too!
Great video for that song Too.
“She’s a Woman in Love “.. a must do reaction… Probably my favorite Petty song 🎵….. RIP Mr Petty….
That's a really good song!!
Great song! My favorite Tom Petty song as well.
Yes. Great song.
Agreed. I think that's my favorite Tom Petty song.
Whole album is great 👍
Ron Blair is one of the most underrated bass players in Rock history. Tom Petty has said that he had the opening riff of The Waiting then he came up with the chorus. It took him a great deal of time to finally dial this song in. Some songs write themselves. Others can be a real chore. The Waiting was the latter for Mr. Petty. Gotta love those Rickenbacker guitars!! RNB
I feel that way about Stan on drums. Never gets enough credit
-underrated is so overused-
-and annoying-
Charismatic artist. One of those people that gathered experience around him like a cloak. The older he got the more mysterious and compelling he got. Another sad loss.
Tom had such a big catalog (and heart!) that he's almost got something for anyone.
The entire Wildflowers album has always had a special spot in my heart ❤
Mudcrutch years
His concerts were phenomenal. Hit song after hit song for a couple of hours.
Definitely my favorite concert ever, and I wasn’t even much of a fan until that concert. It really was mesmerizing.
This one and "Don't Do Me Like That" are my favorites by him.
my favorites are. Breakdown & You Got Lucky. you can't go wrong with Tom
Jordan, Amber, "The Waiting" is the hardest part! I'm so with Tom on this one. "You Got Lucky" is another to check out.
Damn The Torpedoes and Hard Promises are two great solid albums from The Heartbreakers…
“Woman in Love” and “ You Got Lucky” are more Tom Petty 🔥
Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers are just pure good rock n roll. RIP Tom. A great tune by this band is - "You Got Lucky", "Refugee", "Here Comes the Girl"
Among the very topmost of the cream of the greatest radio tracks ever recorded ---the luster on this gem will never, ever fade
*Recommended:* "You Wreck Me," "Refugee," and "You Got Lucky"
How have you managed to avoid "American Girl"? It's the song we play on road trip playlists. It's come out in multiple movies. You probably heard it at the start of "Silence of the Lambs" when the girl gets taken. Total rocker!!!
Tom Petty is the G.O.A.T. He is truly missed. Rest in paradise❤
Like MJ
Tom had many sides. Mike Campbell is the guitarist and, in my humble opinion, one of the most overlooked guitarists in music history. Tom also had some really bluesy songs, a lot more upbeat and dancey songs similar to this one. Amber nailed why everyone loves him. His delivery is perfect. He makes you feel exactly how he wanted you to feel in every song. I'd highly recommend Room at the Top. A song that should hit everyone at their core
Mike Campbell is criminally underrated…
I love how Tom uses his voice! The Heartbreakers are so awesome. Each one of them is a master but they play it so cool and understated. Love their sound. Still hoping you'll do "Refugee" which is my fave of their straight up Rock songs. Would also like to see "Into the Great Wide Open" which leans toward that oddball side, with a great video featuring very young Johnny Depp and Faye Dunaway (!!!🤯!!!).
The theme song of the DMV. 😉 Love this song. Love Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. Love you both. Peace and love. ✌️❤️
Two other good Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers songs/music videos are “Refugee” and “Woman In Love”.
Unique, talented, great band. Miss Tom immensely. The twangy guitars are his signature.
Hey there Amber and Jay, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers are so unique, classic and will never be replicated. Here's a great recommendation for ya'll. There's a duet with Stevie Nicks and Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers "Stop Draggin' My Heart Around". Simply Amazing!
There is something incredibly classic about this song. I remember I first heard this song a few years ago at the Hard Rock Cafe in Hollywood, and there was something really intriguing about it. Great song!
One of my favorites by Tom. Got hooked on Petty when I heard "I Need To Know". 2 and a half minutes of pure rock and roll.
I saw him in concert in 1981. One of the best concerts I have been to, and I have been to a lot! Other great songs you would like are Refugee, American Girl, Here Comes My Girl and Even the Losers.
This is my all time Tom Petty song and my favorite album. Pls keep delving into his catalog especially 1978 to 1981
One of my favorite songs by Tom Petty. RIP Tom. Definitely gone too soon. Mike Campbell is the lead guitarist and doesn’t get the recognition he deserves in my opinion. The whole band was awesome. Benmont Tench on keyboards Stan Lynch on drums I remember more Ron Blair on bass in the early years and then later Howie Epstein
Don Felder of the Eagles gave Tom Petty guitar lessons in Jacksonville, Florida in the early 70's. Both student and teacher are in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. My favorite Tom Petty song by far!
My absolute favorite Tom Petty song is Yer So Bad, very very Wilburyesque. When you check it out you have to do the official video version. Hands down one of the funniest and best music videos ever. Tom and I share a birthday, one year apart and, like so many others, he left us far too soon. RIP
Love 'Runnin' Down A Dream' and ' Learning to Fly'. Always thought that everything Tom did sounded like it was classic rock, right out of the 70s and 80s no matter what year he created it. Also find 'Stop Draggin' My Heart Around' which he did with Stevie Nicks.
Good evening Jay, Amber...Tom Petty, awesome pick, he has a unique voice. When he sings with other artists his voice fits right in, with any genre. His voice stands out. .Po Marie ☝️🤓
You Got Lucky is a combo of his bright side as y'all put it and his quirky side as it's set in a post apocalypse video. Kind of a Mad Max vibe.
Also you would love his other duet with Stevie Nicks called Insider. Both would be fantastic to react to.
So wish you could've experienced a Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers concert! Everyone from age 12 to 100, all standing and singing along to. Every. Single. Song. ❤
Another favorite of mine from Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers is "You Got Lucky"..You'll like the keyboards on that!
Woman in Love, Change of Heart, Here Comes My Girl. All great TP and the Heartbreaker tunes
His best early ear candy is American Girl or Refugee. His strangest song is Last Dance with Mary Jane. He truly was a great under-rated guitar player.
PLEASE let your next Petty song be “American Girl” ❤
Amber will be chair dancing for sure!
Walls, Learning to Fly, Don't Come Around Here No More, and Don't Do Me Like That are must reacts!
Gosh I miss this man. His voice was so good. And there are so many songs to love
I can't believe they've done so many Tom Petty songs, but not Don't Do Me Like That, their second biggest hit after Free Falling.
Graduated in 1981 and this song was all over the radio. So good.
The lead guitarist is Mike Campbell, one of the best guitarists in rock and roll. Tom Petty has awesome musicians in his band. His keyboardist is crazy fantastic, Benmont Tench. They can play anything! His concerts are so great. Watch a live concert from back in the 70’s or 80’s on RUclips…what a treat. He always features performances by his musicians. And he always performs a few covers of great rock hits. Everyone always had a great time at his concerts.
Mudcrutch was his first band before The Heartbreakers
"Wildflowers" (TP 'solo' album with heavy participation from the Heartbreakers) will bring tears to your eyes, and "Don't Do Me Like That" is an early banger.
This is one of my favorite Petty songs! I love all his music. ❤❤❤
From mellow to cutting through the air and everything in-between. And unmistakeable. What a voice.
One of my favorite Petty and the Heartbreakers songs. Great choice.
Linda Ronstadt has a fantastic cover of this that you absolutely need to hear!
You gotta love Tom Petty! His music is a total vibe
One of my top favorites from them. Tom was a real one. Always kept his band (Gainesville FL) together as much as he could (labels back then more than likely wanted to single out "key members,") even when he went "solo". Long as I lived in LA, there was a long-running thing with studio engineers, session guys, that went: "You know, out of all the '60s, '70s guys, Tom Petty weathered the '80s better than any of them. Never a bad, embarrassing track. Even at his cheesiest, it was all still pretty great."
Miss that guy. Gone too soon, RIP.
tom was only 30 when this was recorded. yes, he was young and i was a teen swooning for 3 years by the time of this song ❤ it's one of my favourites.
early petty (1976-81) is my most cherished. tom continued to write good songs but this period is most amazing to me. from their 1st, self-titled LP to HARD PROMISES, check out:
breakdown
american girl
the wild one, forever
too much ain't enough
magnolia
don't do me like that
refugee
here comes my girl
louisiana rain
casa dega
insider
and this is a VERY short list but a great place to start.
mike campbell is the gifted lead guitarist. he does exactly and only what is needed in service to the song. his talent and restraint is why their music resonates. the whole damn band (benmont tench on keyboards, stan lynch on drums, and ron blair on bass) are bloody wonderful! this is the original line-up that i love 💕
The Waiting is my favorite Tom Petty Song. Very Byrds-like for sure. And of course, all the songs from his Damn the Torpedoes album, Refugee, Don't Do My Like That, Even the Losers... those are amazing.
Such a distinct voice you know who it is immediately
Tom Petty was the first concert my present wife saw together at Red Rocks. He is my wife's all time fav, American Girl, that's the one. Thanks for the smile.
"Don't do me Like That", "Yer so Bad", "You got Lucky", "American Girl", "Girl on LSD"!
This is my favorite Petty and my favorite Petty period. He did everything great, but nothing better than straight ahead rock n roll.
That awesome lead guitar - Mike Campbell - was with Tom from the beginning and now, he's carrying on with his own band The Dirty Knobs. He also did some time with Fleetwood Mac before he formed The Knobs. The dude is phenomenal.
Don't forget Mudcrutch, Tom's first band, that he reunited for a couple of albums.
@@melissagerber7231 Why would you assume I forgot that?
Right on Amber ! Music is variety, Art , unearthing, symbolic, favorable, enjoyment and most of all ...GOOD TIMES !!!!
I've been a Petty fan since the first time I heard "Breakdown" (1976?). When his "Refugee" album came out, I bought it to take to college with me - I was 18. Every song I've ever heard from Tom Petty sounded, immediately, as though it had already (and always) been a classic - from day one... but this song makes me a little sad because the night he died I went to bed with him on my mind and woke up with this song playing in my head. Thank you Tom...
Tom Petty’s songs are original and cool. He was completely unique and instantly recognizable.
I can’t believe he’s gone. I can’t believe that we’re living in a world where Tom Petty is not walking around in it somewhere. 😢
The great Tom Petty, My man. Have you guys done his song "Your Jammin me"? Petty has tons of good songs. Tons and tons of hits.. Another old one they used to play on the radio was "Refugee". Love Tom Petty. Thanks guys. Luvin it. Be good. Go with God. Peace Y'all.
A Woman in Love! Got to see the band 27 times in concert.
Holy crap!
Jay
This video highlighted younger version of Ton Petty and the Heartbreakers in the early 80's before Alice in the Wonderland concept music video. As I stated here, my friends and I were fortunate enough to see Petty and his band back in May of 2017 before his sad sudden death months later in October. Prior to his sudden death, Tom was planning to retire from touring. In his hometown of Gainesville, Florida, city honored Tom Petty named city park after him. His brother, Bruce Petty and his daughters were there for ceremony.
I’m pretty sure this was the first TP song I ever heard, and I’m absolutely certain it’s as perfect a song as the man ever wrote. And to seal the deal, we have the band knocking it out of the park with their stellar playing. GREAT record.❤🎸🤩
Just love Tom, faves are “Free Fallen” and “Don’t Come Around Here No More” 🤓
My favorite Tom Petty story is that he was asked to wrote a song for the film She's The One, and instead he wrote an entire album's worth of songs and Ed Burns, the director and star of the movie, who you might know from Saving Private Ryan, decided to just make all of Tom's sons the entire sound track. And it's a fire soundtrack! One of my favorite Petty albums!
The waiting was the first time I ever heard of Tom Petty. I bought the 45 rpm record of this song. Brings back so many grade 9 and 10 memories. We had no internet back then. We were dependant upon what they wanted us to hear on the radio.
'Here comes my girl' well worth a look.
Great summertime car stereo song....roll down the window....sing at the top of your lungs....TP&THBs....
Ah, the young and hungry years. Always a favorite.
Obviously lots and lots of people want to know hwy you haven't hit "Refugee", but I've heard that Taylor Swift is waiting for you to react to "American Girl"…and you wouldn't want to deny the Queen, would you?
His concerts were awesome! 2 hours of music ...no nonsense. I loved them!
You like 1970’s/early 80’s Tom Petty. That’s ok. That’s their best era for sure!
My favorite male singer/songwriter. His songs are classic. I was lucky to see Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers in concert about 7 times. He had a way of singing and stage presence that made you think he was singing directly to you! And the most humble artist ever! He truly appreciated his fans and thanked them! I miss him so much! Check out Wildflowers~it is a masterpiece!
It was always one of the best things about listening to a new Tom Petty record, you never knew quite what you were going to get. Usually a mix of a few straight-forward rock songs but also always the experimental or quirky song idea or something nostalgic where he and Mike Campbell would go back to an artist for inspiration that they listened to growing up, like the jangly guitar sound of The Byrds and Roger McGuinn. Enjoying your exploration of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers! Miss you Tom!
I think this is my favorite Petty song. And probably one of my favorites, full stop. Yeah yeah yeah yeah.
Listen to “You Got Lucky”. A hidden gem from 1983. Probably my favorite song from Tom Petty.
Great song, one of my favorites. His "Hard Promises" album gets overlooked among all his other great albums, but it has some great songs, like "Insider" and "Letting You Go".
letting you go is such a good song
Pettys best songs are "here comes my girl" and "american girl"...rock classics!!
There are dozens of great Tom Petty songs. If you just listen to the hits, you only scratch the surface of his 40 year career.
Anything he did was top notch to me. Ain't it the truth that waiting is the hardest part. Nice reaction.
Once people listen to enough of his songs they get it and they are fans for life. Plus his work with Stevie Nicks and others. The Heartbreakers are awesome as well. Always loved the Hearbreakers ❤. 66 is a little early to check out but still not bad. If I live to be 66 I would imagine I would probably be happy with that. I don’t know if happy is the word but…
Mike Campbell is the guitar player
Vintage Tom Petty here at his best
Tom Petty and his band had so many great songs... RIP Tom.
I love how the bass plays the main guitar line at 5:25. The first time I noticed that (thirty years after the song came out), it gave me chills.
One of my faves. FYI Tom and Stevie did 2 more duets. Insider and a cover of Needles and Pins.
There are two people that I wanted to see in concert and never did. Tom Petty and Ray Charles, everyone else I ever wanted to see I was able to but these two I regret never seeing.
Tom Petty sounds like home. He grew up one city over and the radio loves to play his music, but never overdoing it. So its my comfort music.
Now your getting into the classic Tom Petty songs 👌 Lead guitarist Mike Campbell, killing it as usual 🎸
Thanks so much for this. The waiting was indeed the hardest part. I have to say that this song in particular, for me, serves to highlight how talented each member of the band is. I absolutely love every component of this song.
“A woman in love” is also a great one!
Tom Petty, Little bit of Soul is fantastic!!
One of Petty's greatest songs. The guitar made it outstanding. You gotta play "You Wreck Me"!
Tom would come up with the lyrics and an idea and then bring it to Mike (guitar) and Belmont (piano) and then the amazing songs would actually take shape. The 3 were what made this group SO SPECIAL.
tom petty is a one of a kind artist. his sound is his and only his....you can always pick a petty song out from hundreds of others....no one else has his sound. Love him. Rip Tom Petty!!! Thanks for all the great music....you were a big part of my teenage years.
