    I was about to sell my Diverge and buy a tourer. I will keep it and upgrade it. Thanks for the advice.

    Great content, I have a Diverge E5 and I've just installed 38c Gravel King SK tires as well. Really love that bike. Thanks for sharing your experience!

    Great set up, I really enjoyed it from a fellow old man at 69. I was thinking about selling my diverge which is a carbon bike with tiagra gears because it’s too heavy for me at 22lbs. Because of ur vid I will upgrade my wheels and saddle. Thanks

    Awesome video, thank you! I've been kicking around the idea of trading in 4 of my bikes - which includes a nice Specialized Allez Sport - and buying a new Specialized Diverse Elite E5 for touring. I'm not interested in using it on gravel as I have a Specialized Stumjumper FSR Comp that's much better equipped for challenging off-road riding, and I have a vintage Stumpjumper M2 S-Works hardtail for bikepacking. I think the Diverge would be perfect for me because I like my Allez, but want/need a more compliant ride with the Diverge's stronger wheels and wider tires. Cheers and I hope you have a lot of great adventures planned for 2023! Liked and subscribed.

    Nice feed back, thanks ! Was thinking about purchasing a Diverge to replace my Sequoia (very good though despite being heavy), but was wondering about capability of the Diverge as a touring bike.

      I had considered a Sequoia too, but I prefer the geometry and weight savings of the Diverge. And I think it's almost as versatile as the Sequoia for touring.

    Great video, thank you! I've seen that you do not use the original headset cap on the diverge (which is pretty high), but a way lower one. Could you eventually share some information on this? I'd love to get the stem on mine down further.

      I had that done at the bike shop when I bought it - not a big deal for them. I wanted a low cockpit position as possible at the time. They left the steerer tube longer to give me the option of raising the bar if I wanted. I have since added a spacer to raise it a bit, but I like the low position.

    Thanks for the video! I'm doing my second trip on my diverge this weekend and am definitely looking for more space as its a small 52cm frame. My large Ortlieb saddle bag feels so heavy even with just clothes & my sleeping pad (stufffffffed tight) in it and its HUGE! I've got the Ortlieb Gravel Panniers to try out as soon as my new seat collar arrives (Mine did not come with one ready to mount a rack). What did you use to attach your bags to your forks? Mine doesn't have mounts and i've seen a few strap/bolt-on options out there...curious what worked for you. Thanks!

    • @adventuresonadadbike8830
      @adventuresonadadbike8830  3 года назад

      I used the Blackburn Cargo cages on my forks. They come with straps to attach the bags. The bags are Restrap 8 litre waterproof bags. It's definitely better to have the weight distributed across the bike. I traveled with friends using just rear panniers and they struggled on some of the looser trail sections.
      A video to my method for attaching the cages:

    just bought a Diverge but more for sports or day trips. For serious touring I would always prefer my touring bike with Ortlieb panniers in the back and the front - never got the point with these kind of bags... shall it look more sportful ? Would drive my crazy to even get the water bottles out which are blocked by the frame bag.

    • @adventuresonadadbike8830
      @adventuresonadadbike8830  4 года назад

      I have side pull water bottle cages. The frame bag doesn't interfere at all. Actually I just bought a larger frame bag and still no problem using the water bottles

    This is exactly my question of the day. I have to make a decision on which of the two types of bike I should buy. My only concern with your video is the amount of luggage. I'm going to have double yours, so can the Gravel bike handle it?
    Thank you

    I have a Sirrus Comp...my worries are foot room if I use a Panier. And my a5 frame...will it be strong enough? To carry 70lbs. The 70lbs will be for a child carrier(for my dog)

    • @adventuresonadadbike8830
      @adventuresonadadbike8830  4 года назад

      Specialized publishes a weight limits guide for total weight as well as cargo weight for both front and rear. The link is for 2019 model years bikes:
      media.specialized.com/support/collateral/0000130943.pdf
      You can also get a rear rack that extends further back at the rear axle to avoid foot strike, and I believe you can get separate extension piece as an add-on.

    Was your bike able to fit in your tent ? I’m curious if it got rained on and how to prevent bike thieves overnight.

    • @adventuresonadadbike8830
      @adventuresonadadbike8830  4 года назад +1

      My tent was in a dry bag on the fork, the poles strapped to the top tube. The dry bags are waterproof and the other bags water resistant. I am replacing the saddle bag with a 17L waterproof one. I've been rained on both while riding and in camp. While riding everything stayed dry accept for a couple damp patches on my clothes in the saddle bag, my handlebar bag leaked through the zipper, and the phone bag leaked a bit but the phone section stayed dry. In camp I have tarp I put over the bike and I lock it to something (tree, picnic table) with a cable lock. The cable lock is lighter than a more heavy duty lock but I feel pretty okay since I'm near the bike most of the time I'm in camp. If I'm in an area where I feel it might be more susceptible to thieves, I'll tie it to my tent as well. The tent (Big Agnus) was completely waterproof through heavy rain.

    Curious about your gearing: what are you running front and back, is it enough carrying loads especially with elevation? Thanks

    • @adventuresonadadbike8830
      @adventuresonadadbike8830  3 года назад +1

      I have 48/32 front, 11/32 back. I have toured in really hilly terrain in east-central Ontario and had no trouble. However I haven't done long mountain climbs. I also have kept my load as light as possible.The plan is to go with 11/36 when I change out my cassette. I think the Tiagra RD will handle it with a B screw adjustment. If I change derailleurs, I will go to an 11/40, but that is much further in the future

    • @johnstarky
      @johnstarky 3 года назад

      Appreciate the response. I ride through some areas of Colorado in the summertime, always run out of gear when loaded. I think I’ve got it dialed now: 46/30 up front with an 11-40 cassette (Shimano mountain works with road/gravel gearsets). Big test will be an over-the-Continental Divide ride this summer...

    Gravel bike is very suitable for light short touring whereas the touring bike for long heavyweight parking tours. Gravel bike is good for occasional touring while using it for also for commuting and exercising and go around with or without light weight, the touring bike only purpose is touring.
