I thought I had everything I needed or wanted but then I started listening to videos like this and I find I have a Solar 42 hole in my studio. Damn so good.
I owned the Lyra 8 but as much as I enjoyed the craziness I just didn’t like the tone, musically. But !!! This is on a new level. Drone and musical and looks absolute stunning. Great work
great performance. Just a couple of queries, is it a case of building up the sound everytime as there no preset/save slots? Does it take a lot of constant tuning whilst in use?
Thanks! There are some things you can save as presets. The keybed has a digital control so you can save sequences and the various settings there. The rest is all patched and set up on the face of the device. As for tuning, sometimes it goes out of tune, but if you just let it warm up before really getting into it, its fine.
noob question, the initial first 5 note pattern you are playing, where is that come from, the sequencer? because I noticed that you are also patching the sequencer into voice 3 but its a different rhythm, how are you getting 2 different rhythms from the one sequencer?
Yeah I had to get creative to do what I wanted. That five note sequence is coming from the keybed. There's a digital sequencer there. Up to 16 steps. For the beat with the white noise two things are happening. There's an analog CV sequencer I'm using for the accented hit. Then an LFO with the square wave for the sixteenth notes. That's patched to another noise voice and some of the drone voices.
@@uncletonysfunhouse thanks for the breakdown/help, makes a lot of sense and I'm getting the hang of the system, so much fun learning and exploring the Solar 42
What did you end up doing? Still have the moog stuff? I just did a deep dive with the moog sound studio this weekend.. What an instrument! Just uploaded a track.
Didn’t go on in any direction so far - too busy with other stuff recently. So yes, still have the Moog Trio (+ godfather). Was also considering just using my iPad with Drambo for ambient stuff. But then got stuck deciding for a midi controller to go with it… If I do find time, I just come back to my trusted digitakt + Digitone these days which I’m very familiar with.
This was the only take after getting a rough idea of what I was going for. I explored and played for around an hour before landing here, playing around with this sweet spot and then hitting record. I try not to dwell on making these videos perfect. Just good enough 😊
I’m totally in love with this instrument even if i have not it. It’s a platonic love actually 😅. I love experimental instruments… i’ve a lyra, pulsar 23, i’ve a strega, ether… i’ve only just a doubt: solar 42 seems to be extremely noisy… it seems to be a problem!? It’s a sort of big hum that disappears when you play. Am i wrong?
Yep it's a little noisy. I wouldn't call it a big hum. Sometimes you can hear the oscillators running when things are turned down or the filter is closed and so on. It's not any noisier than the Lyra I have IMO. You definitely don't notice once everything is going. It's such a fun instrument
When gain staged, mine isn’t noisy at all. There doesn’t appear to be many VCA down stream from the voices, but those close fullly on my unit and don’t produce bleed. There is no self noise unless I max the mixer and go past 4:00 on the master volume (but everything is noisy if you push it to 11). The effects module can create noise/feedback if run very wet but that’s expected and standard for time based effects. Noise is not an issue, as least with my unit.
Man I want one of these, really nice pad you made here, question, are you plugged into a pc/daw? what audio interface are you using? I'm having problems figuring that one out.
@@uncletonysfunhouse I had the opportunity to try out the Motu m6, Audient Evo 16 and Arturia fuse 16, the motu was my first choice but was giving me some issues, pops and crackles, might have been just a bad unit, the EVO 16 was really nice and if it had midi in/out i would have kept it but ended up going with the Fuse rig 16 and that thing has everything one would ever want.

trust me, i had just decided on all my studio gear, until i saw Ben's video
@@GA5aLaProdhaha same. Benn's video sold me so hard on the Solar 43
It`s a pleasure to observe your journey of exploring this instrument and see progress from video to video)
Thanks, glad you're enjoying it. Its been really fun exploring and sharing.
Really good stuff man. You are really the first to make and take music from this thing and put it on the tube. Keep it going!
Thanks, brother! This thing is a blast. Definitely planning on sharing more.
KOOL! 😎

Thanks for sharing! Totally agree. This thing is on another level. I absolutely love the Lyra, too. Will probably jam with it more in the future.
hey now,, thats one of the best Solar 42 compositions I've heard..
Thanks man, really appreciate it.
I don't know the device but I'm amazed by the lfo noise thing you used as a drum loop
The Lyra once seen as Esoteric Mystery looks like a regular ass pizza box next to this divine creation
Excellent sound and performance! Thanks for sharing!! 🙂👍🏻
Thanks for listening!!
I’ve always wanted to get into analog synth/ambient music creation like this. Fantastic jam.
This is amazing, makes me wish I could get a solar 42 and play with it during a sunrise up on a mountain somewhere
Wow, that was powerful. Simple yet really nice.
Thank you so much
For the sake of my wallet, I need to stop watching these. Dude, such a great job!
Thanks, man. For the sake of your wallet, don't watch my latest video 😂

is there an hour long version of this? rad track!
Very interesting,Tony!! 😎
Seriously considering to sell my Moog Sound Studio to get a Solar 42. I’ll let this thought sink a little and keep listing to your great music.

Do you upload those to Spotify? I don't know how many times I looped this video. 👌
Dude thanks. Nothing on Spotify yet. Definitely a possibility in the future.
Same, I have been playing this song a ton, its really beautiful!! Would be so nice to have it on Spotify
😮😮😮👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏🤩
Had u used any other beats patches from any external devices.?
Or is it just from using the solar 42?
Good droning)
Love it! Amazing stuff!
Thanks a lot!
@@uncletonysfunhouse You're very welcome! Thanks for sharing with us!
amazing sounds, to understand the capabilities of this instrument: how many takes did you mix together for this final masterpiece?

hey dude what are you using for your stands to hold your synths? Do you like them?
I was wondering that myself

Pretty good. Gets a little sour now and then though.
Boomer challenge! What is this piece a (likely unconscious or coincidental) cover of? ❤

Thanks! Yessir you'd need an audio interface to record it. I've got this going through my Focusrite Clarett 4Pre, but any 2-4 input interface will do!
@@uncletonysfunhouse is it possible to use an mpc live mk2 as an interface aswell ?
Looks like it might be possible but I don't know that device so I can't say for sure.
