Perfectly Fleeting - Moog Sound Studio Performance
I did a deep dive with the Moog Sound Studio this weekend. Pulled it out of my studio and into my living room so I could focus deeply on it.

Tried playing the "Volt" knob on some of the drone voices and using the noise generators as percussion. I love how deep of a bass sound you can get from this thing.

Love that there's a 5-step sequence on this. Love anything in 5. I found this neat quirk of the Solar 42 where if you touch the nut that secures some of the patch points with a cable that's already plugged in, it causes the pitch on all the oscillators to detune together in this really nice way. Super cool.

Here's one that's more laid back, peaceful and expansive. Love the white noise generators on this thing. The loop and hold functionality on voices 4 and 5 are really handy, too. I used those to make the repeating siren noises about halfway through.

Oh that is bloody lovely mate. And a selection of Moog Sound Studio type ‘Easels’ is how I’m growing my modular. Love being able to do what you’ve done here and take stuff away to focus on as one instrument. Keep ‘em coming.
Yeah for sure. The deep dive over the weekend paid off. I feel like I understand on a more intuitive level how many of the knobs and parameters work now. More to come, stay tuned.

Hello again 👋 I’ve returned to this solar 42 playlist to have a 2nd or 3rd listen… I’m seriously considering saving for one of these machines… please can I ask you, if you didn’t have the solar or the Lyra-8 which would you go for (if the price difference wasn’t a concern), and what would you say are some pros of the solar vs the Lyra? Any help and feedback would be greatly appreciated 🙏🏻🙏🏻
If I really had to choose I'd go for the Solar 42. It's such a special instrument. So many tonal options and so inspiring. It's very musical. In some ways it's more straightforward in the Lyra, despite the many tonal options available.

Seriously considering to sell my Moog Sound Studio to get a Solar 42. I’ll let this thought sink a little and keep listing to your great music.
What did you end up doing? Still have the moog stuff? I just did a deep dive with the moog sound studio this weekend.. What an instrument! Just uploaded a track.
Didn’t go on in any direction so far - too busy with other stuff recently. So yes, still have the Moog Trio (+ godfather). Was also considering just using my iPad with Drambo for ambient stuff. But then got stuck deciding for a midi controller to go with it… If I do find time, I just come back to my trusted digitakt + Digitone these days which I’m very familiar with.
amazing sounds, to understand the capabilities of this instrument: how many takes did you mix together for this final masterpiece?
This was the only take after getting a rough idea of what I was going for. I explored and played for around an hour before landing here, playing around with this sweet spot and then hitting record. I try not to dwell on making these videos perfect. Just good enough 😊

noob question, the initial first 5 note pattern you are playing, where is that come from, the sequencer? because I noticed that you are also patching the sequencer into voice 3 but its a different rhythm, how are you getting 2 different rhythms from the one sequencer?
Yeah I had to get creative to do what I wanted. That five note sequence is coming from the keybed. There's a digital sequencer there. Up to 16 steps. For the beat with the white noise two things are happening. There's an analog CV sequencer I'm using for the accented hit. Then an LFO with the square wave for the sixteenth notes. That's patched to another noise voice and some of the drone voices.

1:40 sounds like you and this instrument got in a time machine back to 1977 to play on Steve Miller Band's Jet Airliner intro.
