- A classic commercial (or rather "video trailer") for Diet Coke starring Hammer movie legend Michael Gough in his role as Alfred Pennyworth from the 1989-1997 Batman movie series. This commercial was seen in the original 1989 VHS release of the first Tim Burton "Batman" movie and has not been released on home video since. Michael Keaton also appears as Batman via clips from the film.
RIP Michael Gough. Still remember watching this on VHS all those years ago.

between Batman 89 and the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie, I don't think there was a VHS I watched more as a kid. And it was thanks to this that Diet Coke became my preferred choice FOR LIFE!

I always thought Michael Gough was the best Alfred by far. He embodied everything that the character was supposed to be: he was much more than just a butler. He was a confidant, a surrogate father(or whole family as Bruce saw it), and a friend, probably the best friend Bruce ever had.

Without Jack Nicholson, Heath Ledger wouldn't have had inspiration. Joker would still be a bumbling moronic comic character with over zealous drive to gold and cash. Jack Nicholsons Joker made it about a personal grudge against a Batman who stood in his way of revenge and robbing the city. Without Danny Elfman the batmen saga wouldn't have the greatest themesong ever written. No matter how many batman movie themes we go through Danny's will always be the cornerstone of all comic movie themes. Not even the fabled superman theme.

The movie isn't complete without this and Bugs & Daffy at the beginning. Just like that Pizza Hut commercial right before the Ninja Turtles movie.

When I was a kid and saw this commercial I would beg my mom and my dad just to pour me a glass of Diet Coke that way I could drink it along with the commercial. Old childhood acting habits. Old habits die hard I guess. Good thing the memories are still there
Old habits definitely do die hard. I remember my brother, my sister, and I would do the exact same thing when this popped up on our VHS tape. Good old days🫠

Michael Keaton was spot on as Batman. I also like Kevin Conroy, Val Kilmer, George Clooney and Christian Bale. Although Bale needs to chill on that Harsh Gruff Voice. Also I like Pete Holmes.

LOL I do remember that. They were saying stuff like, "in order to watch a warner bros movie, you got to have a warner brother ball cap, soda and popcorn or something or other". And then they listed some 1-800 number to call to get it. I recently pulled my old batman VHS out of storage, saw that add again, and tried calling the number...no response! :P
I love this commercial, I have the VHS batman movie at home I would rewind and watch this commercial for hours on end lol. Now there's lines going through it and it's starting to sound like it's gonna be chewed up but thank you you tube.

No, that's the LAST reason anybody drinks it. The first reason is ...well now honestly, because Batman drinks it! He loves it so much, he would literally let the city DIE just to get the last one. That's probably the best endorsement you can give a product. So, eh, I guess it works.

I'll always remember my childhood when I popped in my vhs copy of Batman and seeing this commercial everytime I watch it.
My favorite part of this movie is when joker is going through Vicki’s art portfolio saying “crap,crap,crap”.
I love the Movie itself but Vicki, she screams too much. But Batman and Joker are incredibly spot on. Like the TAS was originally from 1989.
I was born in 86 and this and the Warner brothers ball cap commercial would show up on our VHS tape. That was back when there was no internet, The Nintendo NES was the big console, blockbuster would put the tape on the VHS movies that said ‘Be kind, please rewind’, life was so much more simple back then. But there is also no time like the present because 50 years from now(If I’m even alive by then) the present right now will be looked at as the good old days.
