    If you disable full screen optimizations, yes, when you'll alt-tab your in-game brightness will drop but there's 2 fixes to it, -disable_d3d9ex or just binding keys to max your brightness, for example bind "k" "mat_monitorgamma 1.6"
    bind "l" "mat_monitorgamma 1.9" , by pressing these two buttons your in-game brightness will be maxed out again

    DPI scaling helps with text or buttons in applications. Not too much with games.
    It helps scaling the "dots per inch" so when you scale text or applications up or down it doesn't look blurry.
    Like when you have a 4k monitor, you might want windows UI to be 200, 175, 150 or 125% the size. Some apps do it right, some do it wrong and over all, windows manages it but in case it doesn't you can change this. It shouldn't affect performance at all and if it does its most likely within the margin of error.

    For certain games Fullscreen optimizations casues issues. For instance with it enabled with Crash Bandicoot Insane Trilogy prevents the game from running at your max refresh rate or refresh rates above 60hz. It's a known documented issue with that game and it causes the same issue with other games as well. This needs to be an option that can be disabled globally like when it was first introduced. When the feature was initially added it was an option in the Windows advanced graphics settings that could be globally disabled. They removed the option and instead made it a per game option. It concerns me that they may remove it entirely even on a per game level and games like Crash will not be fixable.

    I know it's been a while when this video got uploaded but an interesting thing I found that some games can run a lot better without it an example was persona 5 stickers I've been running with a lot of stuttering and disabling Fullscreen optimization was really good for me and for some other games like borderlands 3 disabling Fullscreen optimization completely made the game not run at all(in task manager the game is there but it's in idol mode so it's using just a tiny bit of ram and that's it) as for the brightness issues I've never encounters that issue but so that you are clear I'm using the computer not laptop so the point of all of this is that full screen optimization very and depends on the game that you're trying to run and most people who try to use the disabling of the full screen optimization are trying their best to get the maximum amount of FPS so there isn't much of alt tabing when you're playing

    I had the problem that while i'm streaming, csgo was lagging. Since i disabled fullscreen optimizations my stream started to be hella smooth. I also checked the override high DPI scaling behavior. The brightness change sometimes for me is not a problem cause i rather have a smooth stream or recording than stream/record on performance mode and not seeing how my overall stream looks like.

    I did this to my old pc with an fx6300 and an r9 270x back in 2019. Overall it did give me more average fps, went from 90-110 to 130-150, but I did not enable high dpi scaling. After building a new pc with a 2600x and a 2070 I havent experienced a significant difference. It could be that the settings changed since I tried it, but from my experience I'd say it matters more when the hardware is older.

    Btw, right now i have NO side effects mentioned in the video. So if any of you had those back then and you left optimisations on, you might try switching them off now, maybe the side effects will be gone. Or maybe that's just my PC.

    i was testing these aswell and noticed that, when playing a second MM my number keys would stop working on the buy menu for whatever reason. tabbing in and out fixed that, but is really annoying on the start of a round. I also have the gamma change, but most noticeable on desktop, and was able to fix it by some shenanigans in the Windows Color Managing Settings, under advanced Display Settings, the "use own Settings" and Windows Display Calibration seem to have inpact on that matter aswell.

For Valorant it works pretty well because it doesn’t have the brightness control so it doesn’t affect it also tabs out pretty quick on both my machines from experience

    I play on a low end PC, and I can't say if this works for everyone but Disabling Fullscreen Optimizations does prevent screen tearing if you have it so you wouldn't need to enable vsync (which was what I used before). Also, High DPI Scaling does solve the problem of blurriness if you're playing at a lower res like me (800*600).
    Can't say if they increase FPS though, but the game does feel smoother.

    • @schekelberg6187
      @schekelberg6187 3 года назад

      I was testing the Resolution with my own PC and i came to the conclusion it doesnt even matter with my pc. And i was using big resolution differences, 720p, 1080p and 1440p, i have tested This on Dust 2 on a full 10min deathmatch, the results were close, even so close it could be measuring errors because i cant recreate 1 game like the other, the funny thing is with 1440p i got 4fps avg more than with 720p. I need to say i have a good graphic Card, released This year, while my CPU is older and was released 3 Years ago and is the bottleneck, with a newer cpu it could be different, but then i am in the range where 10fps dont even matter

    • @RequiemOfSolo
      @RequiemOfSolo 2 года назад

      3 months late, but that's because fromsoft did yet another lazy console to pc port of the game sadly. What's actually happening when you launch elden ring in fullscreen is that your monitor gets set to one of the "ultra HD, HD, SD" resolutions in the nvidia control panel which are all 60hz and force lower color depth, as opposed to the standard "PC" resolution settings that you are on outside of elden ring and inside any other game. no idea why it does this, probably some jank lazy way of forcing 60hz instead of just having the game request 60hz through another method
      either way this is why its recommended to play elden ring in borderless right now. it even handles frametimes better

    But I stopped to disable it around 2y back. Don't remember why tbh.
    I used to test a lot, but nowadays don't have that much free time. Idk why I revisited this tweak today, but here I am.
    GPU or Display scaling does not affect my fps. (XL2546K display scalling looks like trash)
    GPU scaled with disabled fullscreen optimization still instant alt-tabbing. (no windows overlays (f.e volume bar on top of the game when using media keys) so proper fullscreen is really working)

    1280x720p low settings with x4 AA 128 tickrate
    ulletical fps map (too lazy too use other more proper method)
    fps with enable fullscreen optimization 480fps
    fps with disable fullscreen optimization 560fps
    tested multiple times, consistent results, less that 5fps variations.
    (only other "important" thing that I use is timer resolution to reach 0.5ms instead of 1ms. That gives me more stable fps, less spikes)
    80 fps is a lot for a mid range setup lol.

    Hmmm. I was a big fan of Windows "tweaking , optimizing etc.". Even making hundreds of custom ISO`s and lost a lot of time I could spend for much more important things just to realize that game developers are too lazy to do those "optimizations" while developing a game. They develop the games to work on stock windows as it is from the Microsoft website and it is more likely to create only more problems than optimizations messing around with it...

    When you play on borderless window. Doesn't that affect the Hz, lowering it to around 60 Hz? (if playing on higher rate monitors)

    • @deltaslayer1132

      Why would that be? I'm playing on a 144hz monitor, with a second monitor on 60hz. Borderless window works fine for me.

      @schekelberg6187 3 года назад +2

      Yeah, thats true. I have the Razer Viper 8khz, the 8khz is a joke to Gamer, even on my mid tier gaming PC, the FPS drop from 200+ on 2000Hz polling rate to lower than 60fps on the 8000Hz setting. The only game i tested so far without any influence on the framerate is a game where you can react with !!! 2 !!! secs delay and still be the better Player, it's AoE 2

    Okay hear me out.
    I'm playing 16:10 (2560x1600) stretched and if I play csgo and have a video running on my second screen WITHOUT the tick in "disable full screen optimization", CGSO stutters like crazy.
    I don't know if that's because my main runs at 144hz and the other one at 60hz, but as soon as I tick the box and disable the feature, csgo becomes buttery smooth.
    Thats why I have it ticked.

    (-) fps drop tiny bit on specific games
    (+) massive control responsiveness improvement in most games (fifa, dirt rally, jc)
    second part was very worth it trade, made game very enjoyable. thats the reason why console feels so good despite being low fps.
