It is great that you are happy with your marine master!

Dear Pete, thank you for sharing your terrific story which you so beautifully tell from the heart. The sentiment that you and your friend Ian share is exactly what this hobby is all about. Nothing to do with money, raw value, brand prestige or collection size. It's about the smile and happiness that a watch brings when we strap it on our wrist, and the silly smile we keep on our face as we move throughout the day every time we take a look at the watch on our wrist. You said it best mate "Eye of the Tiger". God bless you both, and may you both enjoy your watches in good health. All the best Pete. Thank you 🙏👏👍

A big plus from this exchange is that you've created an even closer bond with your friend, of trust and integrity. THAT is truly priceless.
Also, if I were to choose between the two as a keeper, I'd also pick the marinemaster for sure! I love the metal shroud and double dome.
For convenience & reliability, quartz all the way! I'm looking out for a quartz Grand Seiko.

A wonderful story. That's always been the spot for me, just the joy of a watch. Years back I got too serious about getting the "right" watches and fell out of love with it entirely. Thankfully I've found the fun again. Congrats to both of you on owning what you love.

So true. I fell into the same trap. I started collecting watches a little over 21 years ago when I was gifted a mechanical watch. Got big time into it (no pun intented), fast forward 12-ish years and my interest started dissapearing. Sold my entire collection at an auction a couple years after interest started to wane. And never looked back, or so I thought. Then this past year, it has started to re-appear, and I found the fun in buying or looking at watches many times cheaper than I did previously. What brought it back was not the collectability aspect of it, but the quirkiness factor.

Ya audiophiles have the same problem. They get obsessed for the perfect sound. All they ever hear is the equipment and not the music. It can ruin your love of music.

Right there is no raw end of the deal when both sides are genuine happy and this seems to be the case here. Wonderful and toolish diver with a lot of wrist presence. A quartz piece with the second hand hitting all the marker actually is an eye candy!

An excellent lesson for all of us Peter. Forget the money - we're not really supposed to know where the love of a watch comes from - that's the magic of it. Timex or Rolex - it doesn't matter.

I get you, Pete. I've had an SBBN037...the dark blue one...for a few years. It was my first step up, from an SKX, to a "proper" Professional tool watch....and it is so worth it. I love the light play on the dome of the hardlex....and I don't understand why a casual wearer of dive watches would prefer a flat, sapphire crystal. It's not like we treat them harshly.

Watching this Peter reminded me why I missed my SBBN031 so much. So much in fact, that I managed to source one and re bought it. Your other video on the SLA043 convinced me to pull the trigger on a new one. I have since sold my Rolex sub and do not look back, as these Seiko”s are my favourite pieces by far for many reasons. I think you hit on an important fact on “feelings” when engaged in collecting “anything”. I collect vintage working decoys, antique woodworking tools, silver dollars, and as of recently, completely by accident and fortune, watches. All of my watches have a personal story--I figure some day, my three kids will do with them as they will. But sometimes, the visceral desire to own something “special”, because it means something to the owner versus how it impacts the wallet. There is a beautiful message in this video. (My collection? My Seiko turtle bought at the Navy Exchange while I was in OCS, Rolex Sub that my Dad bought as a Christmas present the year after I was commissioned, a Citizen dress watch gifted from a late girlfriend, two vintage Omega Seamasters - inherited from late relative, and my late father’s Seiko 5.). Again, thank you, sir for a nice video with a valuable message!

Hello Peter, I totally understand you, and you will never regret it. Why do I say that? In 1975 I was driving a car that that I had gotten some time before. An aqaintenance of mine had a car that I had always loved. I asked him to his surprise from a fair trade and he agreed. Money wise he got the better deal but 47 I got the bargain of the century. Why? 47 years latercI remember that car with so much joy. Plus that was the car that I drove to my wedding to my beautiful wife. Regrets? Never....Enjoy your new watch my friend. Side note: I e pect to receive my new Big Eye today and am giddy.....

Just came across your channel and appreciated so many of your sentiments in this video. Firstly “wear it in good health” is the perfect way to address a good friend! Secondly, a watch you love is priceless. I recently sold a vintage JLC which I didn’t really enjoy wearing, and didn’t make back what I paid. But I came across a Seiko 6309 slim turtle with a perfectly faded Pepsi bezel that was love at first sight, and after picking it up it hasn’t been off my wrist. To me it’s worth more than the JLC I never wore. With your Marine Master, as a tool dive watch, quartz is the correct choice of movement. Were I a diver, there’s no way I’d choose an automatic as a tool watch over a quartz. A beautiful and important piece, and one I hope to own one day. Wear it in good health!

    • @PeterKotsa
      @PeterKotsa  2 года назад +1

Thank you Alistair for sharing your experience with the JLC.
Honestly I have had the exact same experience with so many expensive watches that have not ticked the emotional box for me and fell down the same rabbit hole of counting my losses.
      Enjoy that 6309 it's a beauty.
Certain watches seem to have a 'soul' for a better word, these are the watches that speak to us 🙏
      Cheers

I have owned this watch for about four years or so. Wear it when working outdoors or fishing. Treat it as tool watch. I would recommend without hesitation or reservation. I am always amazed how incredibly accurate it is. It seems like a satellite watch. Not kidding. TV stations change on the exact same time as watch. Did not like band and have had rubber one which is not my fav. Just ordered Merriott Milanese. But watch super.

Peter, that “tuna” is beautiful. I have the same one except the polished version with almost the same strap except mine is flat. In my small modest collection, I only have started collecting Seiko and I began collecting only versions that have a kanji day and date. For me, living in Tokyo, when I see the kanji on my wrist when I’m walking the streets, it makes it a little more special to me personally. I have lately began to notice some nice Citizen JDM watches as well but I’m only interested if it has a kanji day and date. The one exception is my Samurai which I took a cue from you and modded with a polished steel bezel that always gets compliments. Arigato gozaimas.

New sub here. Preface to say my first diver was a 6306 bought in Rota Spain for $90 in 1978. I still have it but I had a DEEP NEED for a Rolex Kermit when they first came out. Suffice to say I didn’t have deep pockets to own one. A couple years later happened to stop by a new jewelry store that wisely opened across the street to a Cabelas Sporting goods store. I asked about the availability of the Kermit and he said he just got one yesterday and was willing to hold it while I ran home to get my late father’s solid gold Piaget that to me was hideously gaudy. A great trade was made and its neighbor in the winder is a SLA055 and the wonderfully dented and scarred 150+ dived 6306.

The thing some folks forget about Tunas is...you can change the shrouds. It can totally change the look and mood of the watch. I have the two PADI tunas (Arnie and SNE499) and I have two other colour steel shrouds each and I love that I can change the look on them. That and as they are solar they are always running... excellent video, it is very true that some watches you just love and only you can understand why. The 300M Tuna for me is a sweet spot. I have had an older generation SBBN015 in the past that I bought brand new, it was a real lovely watch. I personally prefer that older Tuna hands of the SBBN015, the S signed crown and the matte looking bezel insert. I needed some cash at the time and i had to let go some of my watches including that Tuna. Fast-forward to recent year, I'm in a better financial situation that I bought another SBBN013 (which i also had to let go then and an SBDX001), and the newer SBBN025. The 1000m Tunas are great and all, but the thickness and hidden lugs can be a handfull at times. 5 months ago or so, i picked up an SBBN015 for a reasonable price, with a scratch crystal. I had it fully serviced and a new crystal put in.....and yes this for me is the perfect Tuna, It just so good in so many ways. Its like seeing an old friend.
For the SBDX001, well thats another story of a watch I must have and can't live without situation.

I bought the updated version. It has sapphire crystal but without the dome effect. I could not love it any more. I think the doming does lend character, but I can’t miss what I never had. Came with a black leather strap that I intended to change for one of seiko’s steel items but it wears so darn comfy!

Hey peter, great review like always my friend but I would never change my CITIZEN Aqualand Marine Eco Drive BN2036-14E/TZ31141D to this Seiko. The seconds hands, like always on Seiko never hits the seconds markers. Looks...the Citizen is alot better looking in my opinion of course. Thanks for this review. You are awesome mate!

I traded an Oris Aquis 43.5mm for bnib Seiko sbbn035. The Oris retails for quite a bit more but I definitely don’t have any regrets. This 031 is absolute 🔥😍

Congrats on the trade and cool story Peter!
The second hand missing its marks would have drove me crazy as well, glad you got it fixed. Last watch I had to have was the Fortis F41 thanks to your review Peter. Still have yours? It took me several months to get my hands on one here in the USA since there were no ADs here until September of last year. Great watch! Take care.
    Cheers

Once again I blessed one of my close viewers with that piece
Do I miss these watches?..yes absolutely
But I get a ‘fix’ bringing joy to others. I suppose that’s why I do the giveaways with these micro brands as well 👍
      Enjoy that F41 a stunner 🔥

A lot of the owners of the older SBBN tunas (including the generation 031/033/035) hate the fact that it has that hardlex double domed crystal and the fact that it reflects everything. This is one of the features that makes it THE Tuna for me. I don't like the new flat sapphire version, I only like the hands from the new SBBN, but that's pretty much it. I have the all stainless 033 and I freakin' love it, I even bought the 031 bracelet for it.

    • @PeterKotsa
      @PeterKotsa  2 года назад +1

Well said, its the double domed hardly that makes this watch..theres a 'look' that really resonates with me as well...👍👍
Enjoy your 033, a real beauty

    • @readyme

I too love my 033. I think the best part is the handset… so clean to check the time at a glance.
I do wish I had the 031 though. The black bezel insert and brushed shroud look better in my opinion.
