Thank you for these amazing videos. I am 25 quit my job to pursue my passion and started studying in a fashion school but soon got depressed and started doubting my choice. Your videos are giving me hope
Patience, humility, gratitude, perseverance. These are the characteristics that I realized from my first couple years starting in the fashion industry and from this video, - they're what you need to posses to keep you going and eventually take you to the desired setting.
This is one of those videos I didn’t know that I wanted to see in my life. My fashion school is both art and technique based and I feel like they’re perfecting neither. We have good lecturers but I feel it’s very limited what we can learn within 3yrs looking at the workload.. I know I’m lacking so much technical knowledge and trying my best be knowledgeable. It’s scary thinking about job hunting while knowing there’s so much that you lack and doubting yourself.. Thank you for this amazing video, I’m relieved to hear that the enrolled years does not define your whole career!❤️
Thank you for this inspirational video! I’m a final year fashion design student, and it’s scary to think that my university journey is almost over, especially knowing that job hunting will be more difficult now that we’re in a pandemic. But you lifted me up with your motivational words🙏🏽
I can relate to the video so much. I went to an Art-based fashion school in NYC because of its prestige, without knowing much about the teaching style. I’m under the impression that my school was more about how to come up with ideas than with how to execute those ideas.
@@Leonardovins I went to Parsons. Now I am a FIT student. My major at FIT is technical design (which is not fashion design per se). However, I can say overall, FIT is technical and Parsons is artsy. I prefer FIT. It doesn't mean that Parsons is bad. It is just that FIT teaching style fits my learning style and personal goal better. Many may find FIT fashion curriculum very rigid. It somewhat focuses on skills and standards. Students need to be quite good at their crafts. Yes you can design what you want but some may feel like they are discouraged from breaking the rules. Meanwhile, at Parsons, you are given much room for creativity early on. The school does not emphasize much on construction skills. In my own opinion, the downside of Parsons is that you might run into the risk of coming up with ideas that are much beyond your skill level but to many people, this is the way of learning. Also, Parsons students often can outsource some parts of their work anyway. At FIT, you will probably turn into a more well-rounded, industry relevant fashion designer; whereas at Parsons, your creativity can be brought up to very very high level as long as you aspire to be creative, conceptual and aren't afraid to challenge yourself. This is of course my personal exp and observation (mostly). I know design school can be quite expensive so I hope that my humble opinion was somewhat insightful to you.
@@ThinhHoang122 Thank you very much for your answer. FIT and Parsons are 2 schools that I'm aiming for. That's really great to hear thoughts from someone who's studied in both schools. Much appreciated!
Wonderful video! I'm 16 and I'm starting to get more & more into fashion field and your videos give me a nice perspective and insight for my future career. Salute from Brazil!!!⭐
Love your videos, well your hands are magical I wish to have skills like that, what a craft, love the jacket too, I'm in a fashion school in Colombia but they don't teach much technique, I would love to learn more,
I really enjoy your videos, not only are they a treat to the eyes but also to the soul. In college i always felt behind, but as you mentioned i was measuring myself against other very skillfull people and people who paid very skillfull professionals to do work for them. Now i feel a little bit more confident in my habilities learning as i go. My first job came from an internship that a friend helped me get and its crazy how many things i didn't know at the time and the many more i still need to learn. Thanks for the videos
In my country the internship in fashion is not common. The workers in atelier were surprised when i came to them telling that i want to work for them for free when i was 19. I knew nothing about sewing, but internships improved my skills a lot. I tried working in ateliers doing bespoke tailoring, worked in factories sewing garments for fast fashion brands, then worked at atelier making bags. Now I'm planning to take internship in menswear atelier, and its my final year at University
Like always I can relate to your video and experiences so much. I'll be graduated this year and I'll begin a long term internship in a week. I think I'm very lucky to have found such a great intership during the pandemic and I'm a bit stressed about it but I know that, in this field, we just need to grab on opportunities. I also think that the industry is changing, there is less and less companies rules by a top stylist and more collective work (but I'm maybe biased because it is very common in schools in Belgium) and it is great for newcomers. If I can give an additional advise for students in art based school, it is to learn technical skills by yourself. It is not the same than following the instructions of a teacher but you'll be able to work a lot faster if you know a bit of techniques.
i enjoy your videos a lot, they are really peaceful and have a lot of good advice! im currently deciding between becoming a designer, or a stylist. i enjoy doing both a lot. i am doing a lot of research on finding a good fashion school that will suit my learning style. i cant pick between an art based school or an engineering school :(
I feel very unmotivated to study fashion design now that I moved to the US. It's too expensive here and unfortunately I have other priorities. I should've done in Brazil when I had the chance, specially because we have free college education, but I decided on another graduation. Life choices...
Wow, i needed this so bad right now!!!! 😭😭 Thank you sooo much!! Also in the future could you maybe do a video where you talk a little about portfolio. Thanks a bunch!!
I have always wanted to work in Alexander McQueen and I am aiming directly for that , I will be applying for college this year and i have a question I want to ask about creating portfolio : 1 : Is it ok to create a portfolio that have the same theme for example ( manipulation of coats and jacket , more involvement in fine tailoring and classic designs ) or should I have a variety of designs for example ( sportswear theme , avant garde and art pieces ) 2 : I have already imagine and planned out my Graduation Runway looks already 🤣🤣 and this question is more to your personal preference , do you think our first design is the design to present in shows or we always need to tweak and change our first designs for shows ? Thank you so much 🤍🤍
Your camera setup has come a long way since the early days :) I love the detailed shots of you working, its comforting to watch an experienced craftsman work and a golden resource to learn techniques. 8:26 what's happening there?
hi, since u spent time to take photo of those draping and paper patterns in the shop of yr website, y was it so incomplete without size measurement table price and payment method?

I wanna learn the technical part of fashion. I want to be an a pro in patternmaking and building my gaverments. Thank you so much for inspiring us! I will waiting for your answer! Thanks:)

both is important, knowing how to come up with ideas, but also how to execute them. I try to handle both of it as best as possible
what is your school if I may ask? I'm looking for a fashion school to apply also
