Wow! I'm new to blender and digital sculpting in general! This way of sculpting is soo difficult! You're so good! It's amazing! I hope I can become as good as you one day! You really inspire me!
It's actually pretty easy! Right-Click on the border of your rendering area and it will give you a option to either join or split it. Then just set an angle from which you want to view it and you are golden!
:( what the person who created the character is clearly going for a fairly realistic looking style so why not have the highlights in the eyes on the same side? i think it's only because they used a mirroring tool and forgot that the highlight would be on the same side not opposite it has nothing to do with it being an artistic choice it was just an oversight that i was pointing out
@@Dax3nt You did notice that they were using a toon shader, used no UV mapping, Textures, Normals or any kind of realistic shader? It appears as if they tried to get as close to toon-style as was feasible. Also there's a fine difference between forgetting and deciding not to do something? I mean I would have left the mirrored eyes as well, because its negligible to the point that one must niggle to find flaws in it and it would have preserved a clean and editable mesh that can be easily corrected later. If the eyes would have been unmirrored it would either mean applying the mirror to the entire piece or discoupling the eyes from the rest of the mesh. both would be tedious and would create heaps of problems for little gain. Remember that meshs aren't like drawings, which you can repeat easily and rarely need to reuse. A mesh has to be used in alot of circumstances and needs to be robust and flexible to be useful. Weird sections of your Mesh that break from the rest cause problems in every following step. Though I would agree with your assessment that this is not an artistic choice, as any logical argument for it is purely based in structural problem-avoidance. I would argue though that weighting the structural gain against the aesthetic loss makes it a good choice.
Funny how what qualifies as "low poly" changes over time . This model alone has more polygons than probably a whole game had in the last millennium. Heck I'd think most games, at least 10 years ago and probably quite a lot of games today would not have used that much polygons on one character. I'd say using polygons for freckles, shoelaces, and eyelashes etc. that could be just a texture is pretty extravagant. With some simple textures and basic Gouraud shading (and other fancy shading techniques), this model would be about the same level as the first Toy Story. I understand that "low poly" here refers to the aesthetic of sharp flat shading and flat colors and no textures rather than the actual number of polygons, but I still find it somewhat amusing that this is now considered low poly.
Well it's similar to how pixel art back in the days (when it was necessary to have as few colors as possible) is different to pixel art today, having access to as many colors as you could want. I believe it's more about the style rather than the actual number of polygons like you said
im still relatively new to Blender but low poly in this case may refer to the fact she sculpted it using planes instead of the usual 'clay like' sculpting methods other Blender users may do.
I really have to say thank you alot for your videos, all of them but these Low Poly ones in general because they were part of my beginning catalyst to really get into 3D and start making some things of my own, they helped guide me in the right direction, and even now after I've begun to sculpt and retopo characters I still look back on these because I see all of the possibilities infront of me now that I fully understand this workflow. So Thanks Cherylynn for the Inspiration and continue to do what you do.
Fantastic modelling. So cool to see how methodically and efficiently you used each plane. Also such a delightful surprise to hear that gorgeous Peter Pan score again. Thanks for the video. ^u^
that is really cool. I like how in the render you dont see the angles or the polygons but it is beyond me how you get it lit like it has been smoothed out like that.
Beautiful concept and modelisation, i'm so in love with it.... it really makes me want to find out more about the character and the world she comes from . I really hope you bless us with more pieces like this ! it has a pure and warming miyazaki vibe to it Also it would be fantastic to see this girl in a whimsical pose with her hair and cape flowing on a blue sky background

well i suppose, but ive been jumping in and out of modelling for 4 years, when i got the time, but i simply cant get the flow of a human body / face right. I tell you its a curse, i think im really good at static stuff but the second i want to create something organic, i just give up because its shit..
I would study anatomy before trying to jump into conceptual work. Really have a handle on the structure of the bones. Then study pieces of media you think have really great characters, and try and find some sort of proportional rule or 'formula' that they use. Mostly, good design is just putting things in the right spots and distances from each other. Try doing that for a long time, and recreating stuff from artists you like!
For this specific piece, I researched a lot of different anime-style images, and mixed it with a toony style i've developed. It's all about fusion of styles and studying!
