Thank you so much!! I just started homeschooling my children today, for the first time. I bought the complete child and parent kit for 4th and 2nd grade. I want to say that I almost cried today. I felt so overwhelmed to read and teach every single thing on the lessons. It is sooo much! The work is so simple, but the prep is just way too much for me. I wish I hadn’t spent all that money on so much.
I’m in the exact same boat with my second and first grader. We started homeschooling this week for the first time and I actually did go to the bathroom and cry a little 😅 it really is overwhelming. I’ve also noticed they already know a lot of this stuff we are going over in the beginning.
Thank you for the tips and suggestions. This is my first year teaching at a private Christian school that uses Abeka and, while the curriculum is wonderful, some of my students are struggling with the workload. As their on-site teacher, I’ve felt like I’m failing them, but after hearing your tips and suggestions, I am feeling more optimistic with being able to add and subtract my own worksheets and activities that can help the students succeed. Thank you!
@Melissa Meadows, thank you for your comment. I am so glad to know the video was helpful! Your students are blessed to have such a dedicated teacher. I pray you have a wonderful rest of the school year. 💕
Just found your channel! We finished our 2nd year with Abeka and I am learning to tailor the content to flex with our family needs. I love it and have yet to find another curriculum that is as foundationally strong, however, we definitely want more interactive learning and less seat work. This video is very helpful to spark thoughts for customizing. Many thanks Moma!!
Love it! Abeka is great, yes, more work for the parents and child but worth it at the end of K5 and 1st grade. I have fond memories of the songs, what a wonderful way to build memories with our little ones. At the end of 1st grade Abeka, we transitioned to a more workable curriculum as a family. We still enjoy looking back at our K5 and 1st grade memories. Love you my sis!!!
Thanks for your comment. 💕It is so true! Every family is different. What works well for one may not work for another. One of the blessings of homeschooling is being able to tailor the learning experience to work for your family. So glad you found something that works well for your home! Blessings 🙏🏽💕
Just discovered your sweet channel! Binge-watching...great videos! I keep seeing your book baskets- I have some of those and now I know what I will use them for! I've never used Abeka but now you have me curious...
Hi, I really appreciate your videos! I want to modify because I'm starting to feel like its too much for my children and I want them to enjoy school at home. Thank you for the tips!
I love your concept! I did purchase the Grade 4 Kit for Child and Parent this year since we are newbies. However I will only be purchasing it like this this first time to familiarize myself with it. But I will be taking your tips. Then in the future I will be purchasing only what I need. Thank you for this!
We are starting Abeka for 5th grade, I have heard if they haven't been doing this program since the beginning they may be overwhelmed and possibly starting them a year behind is a good option....I didn't know this until I already purchased this, but I only have one child and I'm a stay at home mom, we did Lifepac last year and she seemed bored, so I hope we can hang with this one🤞if anyone else had heard about starting them a year behind for this program let me know.
Hi Devan, thanks for your comment… I am sure that many here could give you some great recommendations. I have definitely heard of both scenarios (starting a year behind & starting at grade level). It will depend so much on each individual child as well as on what program they are coming from. We went straight into ABeka our first year homeschooling coming from public school and continuing on grade level worked well for us (although there were some topics that were not taught in their previous school, such as sentence diagraming, that we took a little extra time to teach). Wish you all the best in this new homeschool year.
I know what you mean... 💕 abeka can be alot. I will share that (based on our experience & that of many other moms I have spoken to) the first year of homeschooling is always the hardest. There are many other curriculum that are not so time consuming and intense. I pray you find what works best for you and your family. I wish you all the best on your journey! 💕
Abeka is definitely not for everyone. We have enjoyed using it for some subjects (I especially enjoy the use of their Read & Think skill sheets) but have enjoyed the freedom of incorporating other curriculum for many of our subjects. 🙂
It takes some getting used to it. Just know that there is a world between Abeka and sending your kids back to school. If Abeka does not work for you another curriculum probably will work.
Great video!!!! The lesson plans--do you feel there is enough to teach concepts in the student texts We use abeka math for my 2nd grader and that's all I have experience with (abeka wise)-i only have the student workbook...soo not sure what even lesson plans are 🤷♀️🤣
So glad you enjoyed the video! We have never used lesson plans either. For the younger grades, just using the student text has been enough to teach the concepts. For the older grades, we have purchased the answer keys and that has worked well for us. It is definitely a very personal choice dependent on each family’s needs. All the best on your homeschool journey! 😊💕
So glad to hear the video was helpful! 💕 We have never used the video instruction from Abeka but their website does have the option of purchasing video instruction for individual subjects. Here is a link with an example from their website: www.abeka.com/abekaonline/bookdescription.aspx?sbn=366862
Yes, We used Abeka for mostly all subjects for 1st grade (excluding Bible & Science: we used items I designed for these 2 subjects). Specifically We used: * Arithmetic 1 *Letters & Sounds * Language 1 * Reading Handbook * Spelling 1 *Community Helpers Activity Book
So for writing, you do Abeka 3rd grade then EIW 4th grade then Abeka 5th grade?? Or do you do Abeka 3rd, EIW 3rd, Abeka 4th, EIW 4th? I just realized this may be a really dumb question
Hi! Not dumb at all! With our older 2 sons, we have done 3rd Grade: ABEKA/ 4th Grade: EIW / 5th Grade ABeka/ 6th Grade EIW/ 7th Grade ABeka. We definitely look at each of our children’s needs individually, so we will be taking a different track for our youngest son (current 3rd grader). Hope this helps!

Thank you for giving me this advice. I bought the box curriculum and honestly don't use half if it, haha. I'll buy less next year. God bless you!!
Great! Glad it was helpful. So great to have the opportunity to tailor it to our family’s specific needs. God bless you too!
This is so helpful! Thank you!!!
My pleasure 💛 So glad to hear it!
Thank you
Awesome!
TY so much for sharing all of this
You are very welcome, Shay!
I pray it was helpful 😊💛🌻

Abeka is the most confusing I just enrolled my
3 kids. I don’t know what to do. Starting to think I’ve made a huge mistake switching to homeschool

i was thinking about switching to abeka for some subjects for my kids and this is what i am worried about.
