I love how he thinks about multiple concerns with his designs, even if its very unlikely that someone will encounters that problem, he still has it solvrd.
FWIW, hair ties are my go-to replacements for rubber bands, as they are *much* stronger and don't deteriorate *nearly* as much over time. Just make sure not to get the ones with metal bands; you don't want rust to be an issue down the road.

Hi Sunshine, I have had issues with the zip tie. I printed the sizing chart no problem - but when I print the zip ties the holes never are large enough. I did not change any settings between prints, and tested both the sizing chart and the zip tie piece with the same filament. I even went to the largest size, I'm not sure the STLs are correct. I successfully printed your inline - 3 cylinder engine without a problem so my printer is tuned.
2:39: Since you're a compliance mechanism expert, maybe the center post (that digs into the filament) could be compliant to allow removing the zip tie?
I printed the sizing block and tried Ninjaflex and Cheetah and they both didn't grip and just slipped through the holes. Is your filament grippy / rubbery?
It's a cool Idea, but seems a bit wasteful. You can buy one time use zip ties for at less than 1 cent each, and reusable at 5 cents. If produced in bulk, your design might be better than the current design tho, and it does give you much more control over the length of zip ties, which is cool. A slight disclaimer; I'm not a printer, so I might be missing the point entirely ;)
even better idea is to not 3d print the lock that goes with the rubber band...and just use the rubber band itself to use it for what it was designed for in the first place...
Just buy a big of quality zipties. You want something removable? Buy a roll of thin velcro. Problem solved and you're not dicking around printing this stuff. 3D printers are great for making useful tools but this just doesn't make any sense.

You could use cheap weed eater line which can be bought just about any where. That way you can save your filament for actually 3D printing objects.

I'd use some weed-wacker line. This stuff is super tough and super cheap.
