Good stuff. I’d love to see some R50 video samples outside and in different conditions: “vlogging” “cinematic shots” etc. I definitely agree the contrast needs to come down. I’ve seen some other channels who have published “cinematic” samples using the R50 and the contrast is quite overbearing. I would probably reduce contrast to at least -2 or -3. Cheers.
Love the color profile of your set. What color temperature lights are your using and what White Balance do you have it set to. Also I have been searching but haven't seen ANY videos on setting a Custom White Balance on the R50. I have seen someone do it on the R10 and I like how they have improved how it is set compared to older Canon cameras. I still have a Canon t5i and I'm thinking about this as an upgrade. On a side note. I run Magic Lantern firmware on my t5i. One of the features I like is custom (grids/cropmarks) Do you know if you can run custom grids on the R50? Thanks.
Hey thanks ! I leave my temperature set to 5600 K. When I'm recording inside all of my lights are 5600 and I always make sure to use a color chart at the beginning of my videos that I can use to color grade with to dial it in even closer. I have not seen any options on the R50 for custom grids.
If you have eye auto focus turned on it should be able to find you. That's all I use for these videos that I record. also use the canon app on your phone to sync to the camera that way you can use the phone to also make sure you tap yourself and that it is focusing properly at a distance.
for the R50 these settings will work in all video recording modes with the exception of HDR PQ which is a more neutral HDR recording format which requires color grading in editing.
How to use HDR PQ enabled such that you get 10 bit colors, but convert it to SDR Rec.709 in editing tool (davinci for example) by preserving those 10 bit colors to edit with ?
I haven't messed with that mode much at all on this camera. For what I bought it for The standard 4k has worked good for me. I have my Canon R5 for if I need to shoot in a flat/LOG format.
You should be able to use these settings for most normal video stuff. I use it for everything on my r50. I have not had a chance to try it with sports but don’t know what it wouldn’t work.
OMG! You just saved my life with this setup. I am new to cameras and you got my footage lookin’ great to me straight off the SD Card. Will this same thing work with my Canon M50 too?
Hi, i'd like to know, how can i protect my R50's sensor?, cus it's always expossed. I was waching other video where someone use the sensor cleaning option in a R5 just to dropp the courtain for protection, but i haven't fount where's it located.
There is no curtain in the r50 as far as I know. I just keep a lens on mine at all times. If you swap lenses it will be ok for the short time they are off.
I just got my camera and I haven't yet figured out how I can save the video settings. Every time I switch the camera on I have to do everything over again, which is quite frustrating.
If you’re in the custom profile settings like I showed in the video it should automatically save once you back out to the menu and hit set. Once I selected this profile in video mode ’ve never had to swap it back.
@RexxReviews thanks!! I'm an absolute noob in terms of videography (photography was always my main hobby) and i though that everybody made videos in HDR bc of it's advantages, I'm surprised to see (from the videos of professionals like you here) that is the opposite
@@twitch_theoxidado9043 Its a personal preference, HDR PQ isn't real LOG and its not the easiest to grade, especially of you don't have decent hardware for editing.
I have a question: I got this camera, and I got the camlink. However, while podcasting, after a while (20 min or so) the flipped screen turns itself off. Is there a solution to it? Specific questions, sorry :/
Is the feed still going through the camlink while the screen is turned off or is it cutting the stream as well, just trying to get clarification on the issue. I keep my flip screen off completely if I have it running through my camlink as the LC screen tends to make the overheating issue happen sooner while its running and using that additional power.
Hello and thank you for the video. Unfortunately, my camera doesn't show the setting you show on yours. In video mode, I only have 1,2, & 3. It doesn't go up more than that and I don't see what you are talking about on the menu. Could you please help?
hello everyone. I need your help guys))) I'm a begginer too and was trying to do the settings as shown on this video but on my camera I can not choose the picture still and also clarity is just grey so I can not open it. please tell me what do I need to change to have an access to change this
Just got a Canon R50 vlogger kit with the RF S18-45 F4.5-6.3 IS STM Len that comes in the kit, should I use the same settings as you described? Thanks,
Not a clue, maybe a bad cord or cable for your mic? I run RODE Wireless Go mics and RODE NTG shotgun mics and never have any audio issues like what you are describing.
Hi sir Just came across your video. Well explained but this settings just for video.I request you to share complete camera settings including photos. I recently purchased Canon R50 Iam looking for overall camera settings..pls share link if you already made a video…😊
I don't use any additional settings for photo. I generally don't take photos with this camera because I have a Canon R5 for that a few times I've taken photos I've just put it in manual mode
It depends on what I’m doing. For this specific video I was using the Rode wireless go 2. For some of my other videos if I’m in my office I use the Shure SM7B
Thanks Rex. I got this camera but when I copy the video to my cellphone (Samsung a33 with uhd video) it does not recognize the file. What am I doing wrong
Check and make sure your internal audio isn't set up too high. I actually keep mine down fairly low which is generally the recommendation if you use an external microphone and then raise it up and post. If it's still having an issue possibly return the camera and swap it out.I've had mine since lunch day and have never had this issue.
Is it possible changing settings like aperture and speed while streaming with the USB C connection? When I plug in a USB C cable and record video on my Mac I can not change any settings. Only when cable is unplugged again, I can change settings. That seems a bit weird, as I should be able to change settings while streaming, if I find that a settings needs to be set different. (Canon EOR R50, Mac Mini M1, Quicktime) Any help about that would be nice.
This would be somewhat similar to "Prolost" setting that people used to do on the older Canons, seems odd to do this on an r5 or R6, because it means your are choosing 8 bit recording over 10 bit. When I used Prolost Flat setting I also turned on the D+ or D+2 (HTP highlight tone Priority to get even more dynamic Range out of the Camera
With the R6 I use -4 Sharpness, -4 Contrast, -2 Saturation, and 0 Tone, plus D+2 HTP because yes it increases dynamic range by a full stop. I also just use C-LOG2 when I am shooting something that warrants the 10bit 4:2:2 but I usually stick with 8bit for ease of use of the H.264 files (10bit, Clog is only wrapped in the H.265 format which is a pain in the ass).
I've said this multiple times within the comments... This video was for people who have this camera already, as such you would know what the before video looks like. These settings take less than 5 mins to change and then you can see the after. There are hundreds of comments here of people thanking me for the setting because it made a big change for them. None of the default bult in profiles for this camera looks really good at all.
