What's beneficial about banging a 5k race when prepping for a long distance race? are there any crossovers in training or is there a specific reason why doing this?
I'm currently training for a half marathon and do 5ks every couple of weeks. I think because of the nature of them it teaches your body how to run at speed when fatigued. It's useful when you're coming to the end of a race and just gives you another level you can run at.
@@fattysl26 is there any science to this? being fatigued is one thing, running anaerobic another. a 5k you can smash, at least 1/2 of it, full blown anaerobic. the same amount you can do for a 21k only in the same last distance then. prior to that you float around in zone3 primarily before smashing it. right? would science say that instead of banging PBs, we could dedicate our training into more solid runs? just asking, don't know the answer
@Tim van Monero I didn't say anything about running anaerobically. If you've done the right training then you should be able to run at race pace aerobically.
@@fattysl26 we talk here about PBs and 5Ks. this can't be done aerobical. no race pace can be done aerobical. otherwise you could have done "more" and it wasn't your full race pace. even if you run aerobic 3:30s, you're not running 20k with 3:30 pace in a race, but the first 15 and then you go full throttle anerobic. overall, you'll float slightly below LT2, and then go for smash. right?

I think that you are not using proper shoes for track, all this cushioning together with the track material, basically makes it harder to go faster
those shoes have carbon fiber to make the footprint more reactive
