Quite helpful … thank you! I have a cheap little Chinese hand steam cleaner that I used to do a “final rinse” on the threads prior to application of pipe dope or marine grease just to not leave any contaminants in contact with the pipe or cap just because I was about to seal up whatever is there for potentially a long time. This would also be one more thing to minimize potential chemical assistance to the dreaded ‘dissimilar metals galvanic corrosion’ process.
I have this same problem and I have a tap ordered, but I am going to try this method. Thanks!
I waited too long, because some of my threads were rusted away. Good luck!
What were the caps you pulled off before you started cleaning threads? Thanks
Those were a 2" and 3" test plug. They were just temporary. The brass caps are the permanent caps.
Dissolver..DISSOLVER
Should have used a course rag to wipe out the threads. And that's way too much sealer.
