Hey, I'm Scott from Central Florida, my pond is 375 gal. with 7 small koi, yeah its small , but we will work with it. Just had a koi that got a side sore, our goto pet shop hooked us up with salt and melafix, now have to treat for 7 days. I feel better knowing my pet shop guys, who have ponds are pretty confident on curing the problem, its 79 degrees here today.

Excellent video as always Eric! Just got into the koi "world" this past year, and I just wanted to say you have been a huge help with that process and excitement. I have watched nearly every video of yours here on RUclips, read your blog articles, and have purchased several items from your online store, all to help grow my knowledge and understanding of love these beautiful/amazing fish that I get to enjoy and share with my family and children....So THANK YOU!
That being said, as a newbie, and back to the video topic, I have no clue who my nearby koi health adviser would be in the Harrisburg, PA area...do have anyone you know personally, or any good places online to find a contact besides a random google search? Also, how often should you check your koi for health issues if they aren't showing any behavioral signs of stress?

Awesome!! 65k plus subscribers. 😃👍🏼 Congrats Bro!
Eric I'm still working on this sick fish. I got it by its self in a clear 10 gallon Rubbermaid tote with a small air stone pump in it. I'm afraid some of my other fish have gotten parasites as well. A few of them are rubbing on rocks and floating on their sides. 😏 I'm kinda like your wife. I don't like seeing animals/pets die. I wonder if I could get in touch with the people here in Georgia you were talking about.?. Btw..Thank you so much for your helpful info this morning.

We are thinking about salting the tank. If anyone knows how much salt to add let me know please! We are trying to add enough salt to help with the osmoregulatory stress, allowing the fish to spend more energy healing

Most excellent book. I have it as well and it’s pretty much the Bible for koi health.
Fun fact, dr. Johnson was a mentor for my mentor. I’m very privileged to have such wisdom to learn from.

So far my best source of local koi health advice in the SF Bay Area is Hank over at Connie's Pond and Garden in Castro Valley, California. I haven't had any sick fish yet in my herd, but will most likely connect with Hank in the future to find the best source of koi vet care up here in Nor Cal.

Greeting from South Texas Eric. I am by no means experienced in treating koi. however, out of necessity I have had to treat my koi for ulcers, parasites, and the like. Your helpful wife is a great resource of practical advice. --Please say hello to Leslie.-- Of course, I've also consulted Dr. Johnson's (The KoiVet) websites, book, and youtube channel. Unfortunately, we do NOT have a local vet for Koi. The closest such vet is about 250+ miles away. Thanks for the great videos!

I would wonder what caused it also .Water quality or over feeding ,over stocking or adding a fish that was not quarantined long enough .Was water tested also and what kind of water well or city water .I have to use water from my whole house filter and not from my hydrant that is connected to my well as ph straight from my well is 9 .I had my Aggie freak out from a huge toad that jumped off the bridge on my pond and lucky I was there and I always have a stock tank right by the pond with a pump and plants going for any thing that could happen and to hold baby fish .I scooped her up in my arms after I saw how to do it because of Eric and got her in the tank and checked her closely and kept her in there for 3 weeks just to make sure she was OK ..She is now happily back in the pond .

Im not too experienced in treating sick koi. All year long, I keep pond salt and medicated koi food on hand and rely on the internet for advice. The extent of experience is salt dipping in a heavy concentration (for a few minutes) over the course of 3 to 4 days. Its worked well for the most part.

Thank you for the BOOK tip! I do not have a pond. Yes, I want and need one. I have ten 4 inch koi. I fell in love with one on an episode of yours with mystic koi. Now I have 10. I am in Michigan. I do not want my koi to die. I KNOW YOU KNOW what to do. I have joined Facebook groups. What a joke. How can you be a koi owner and be so negative? My 10 little koi are in a 50 gallon tank. with a 110 aquaclear. It smells bad, like cabbage. lol... I have been changing the 25% water until it clears up, this is day 3 I wish you were in Michigan. Happy Holidays to you and your family. Sincerely, Eden

The question is to general for me to offer advice. You really should try and find a local koi specialist to help you with your question. Possibly the dealer where you purchased the koi. The only solid advice I can give you at this time is make sure your water quality is perfect and add a good quality pond salt to measured levels to help the koi.....

Have you checked your water lately PH , alkalinady , nitrate ,phosphate, nitrite Ammonia please make sure these are are all ok water plays a big part of the fishes Health salt pond salt find out how big your pond is before you throw it in you can go on line and ask how much salt I should use for you size pond .last but not least I would do a water change I would change at least 3/4 of the pond water if u have house water check for chlorine u must put something in to take the chlorine out .if this fails then your fish has some thing like Parisite, bug , or he’s sick , I hope this helps please excuse the spelling 😁 also u must use good bacteria comes in powder form . Just to let you know I have a 14000 pond for 19 years all koi . Good luck Judy

Judy Thank you so much!!! I just saw your reply, sorry for the delay. Sadly the koi died a week or so after we got him. The whole reason we got him was because he seemed extremely sick in the store and environment he was in, so my girlfriend and I thought we could help him back to health. We thought he was stressed because of the water quality and the overstocked tank, however, we were lead to believe he had some sort of parasite or bug. He peeked up a lot the first couple days. We made sure he had clean water daily with no chlorine and the right ph/ temp. However he kept getting worst. We also tried salting the tank, but I’m pretty sure he needed medication, but my knowledge was not broad enough to know what exactly he had and how to treat it. Thank you for replying, I really appreciate it!

If you suspect your koi are sick you will need to move fast. Adding Pond Salt is typically our first step of any treatment and then we medicate depending on what exactly is going on. I would highly recommend visiting your local koi dealer for some one on one advice. Best of luck to you and your herd.
