Enjoyed your video and candid style. Another benefit of the double over crew is that the double has better towing and payload capacity if that’s a concern for someone. Thanks for taking the time to do the video!
It depends on how you going to use them. If you need to use truck bed go for double cab, if you don’t really need to use truck bed then go for crewmax. For me I go for double cab
Double cab. Need the 6.5' bed and the DC looks better IMO. I put 5 adults in the DC all the time, its really not cramped back there.........just not as cavernous as the CM. DC is 300 lbs lighter and crashes better than CM according to IIHS.(the roof collapses on the CM) DC is quicker as well. Would like to see the roll down window from the CM on the DC though, although that adds weight. Love the under seat storage on my DC Limited.
Part of the reason I went for crewmax years ago is because they have much higher resale value vs double cab in my area. When I sold it, that theory was confirmed.
Double Cab!! I haul more equipment and other stuff than people. Even then the DC is still big enough in the cab. Looks a lot better imo and it's cheaper and more useful for me
To each their own... I’m team Crewmax on this side, because of my wife and 4 kids! If only the double cab had the roll down back window... Crewmax BABY! Lol. At least you Doublecab guys have the bigger bed...
RobMotive Yessir! Got the column shifter with the bench seat up front, so the whole Family can fit, all 6 of us! Lol Really digging your channel man! As a Tundra owner that loves mods, your channel hands down is exactly what I’ve been looking for here on RUclips. Not to mention, you crack me up! You’re naturally funny and got the charisma to boot! Keep the videos coming big bro!
I have the crewmax...when we go camping we can fit two bikes in back..dont even have to take wheels off..and the bed I put the rest of our camping gear..I have a tanau top
I went from a double cab Tacoma to the crewmax. Crewmax room wise is great. I personally like the look as well. I travel from MN to MS, 900+ miles each time. Love being able to put all my stuff in the back with the seats flipped up. Nice also when folks hop in the back and love the room. 👍👍
I also bought double cab because my fishing gears fit in the trunk bed better (65.FT) is better for my 2 piece 12-ft fishing rod. I don't have to worry about breaking the tip. Also it fit my bed mattress better and long table as well. Truck looks better much more fit. CrewMax what a waste of money (price tag sucks).
Crewmax all day for me. Love my Calvary blue tundra. Then again it’s also our family car so wife two kids luggage all there stuff on road trips the space is huge but double def looks better. Agree with everyone else full rear window slide in double cab would be awesome. I wanted double at first but car seat was too tight in double. A adult for but full car seat didn’t fit
I love my 2012 double cab. I've never had an issue with space for people sitting in the back. So what would you rather have. First class leg room and a small bed, or decent leg room and plenty of bed. For me, extra bed space hands down. I'm actually confused as to why any truck owner would prefer less bed space?
Depends on your needs I suppose. For those that use the truck for more of a family hauler and the occasional dirty load, interior room is more important.
Same reason I went smaller. I had a 2017 f150 supercrew. Was massive. Too much wasted space in there for me. We are a family of three, and it was either me and my son, or me and the wife. Three of us sometimes on the weekends, but we used her SUV alot. It started to feel too big in the inside. I went with the double cab tundra, and haven't looked back. Plenty of room back there. My dad(5'10") insisted to sit in the back when we went to the store. He said there was plenty of room and didn't look cramped. Best of all, it feels more personal when driving by myself, like I'm not driving a 15 passenger cargo van...
What is your mpg just out of curiosity? I am considering the double cab and it would be my daily commuter for the most part to work which is less than 3 miles away so wouldn't really be a lot of highway driving. Thanks
I did the exact opposite. I started out with a '12 double cab. After it got totaled (by a guy on his phone running a redlight and t-boning me) I started looking for a crewmax. I wanted to give my son more legroom. Plus I plan to put some subs behind the seat. And I don't haul that much in the bed but I do haul my 20ft enclosed trailer on long trips. The crewmax should be better for our long hauling trips. Plus I LOVE the sunroof. Only available in the CM. On the fuel economy part. my '12 DC was a 4.6. My '15 CM is a 5.7. I too get about 1mpg less now. But honestly I don't care too much about mileage. If I want good mileage I'll drive my prius swapped MR2 around. Only issue is it is a sportscar that handles (and rides) like it is on rails. My Tundra is WAY more comfortable. :)
The tundra used car market has an excess amount of double cabs. I know use case is subjective to ones situation. I looked into the 08+ models. The fact that there are more 08 tundra double cab than 08 tundra crewmax, suggest that the crewmax will hold a better resale value.
Crewmax over any cab style. Even if you are driving/traveling solo. Its worth it in the end. If I can't sit comfortably in the back of my truck. Just imagine anyone the same height or taller than you. Just in case I can't drive or ride shotgun. That won't double cab truck went work for me.
i like your double cab if your not gonna have many passengers it's better. FYI its a boy! hope he don't kick the back seats in my Rebel i think its far enough away back there!
Still torn between the two lol.I had put my name on the list for a 2020 trd pro tundra in army green crew max,but I’m really not sure if I should go with the double cab. I really don’t care for the sun roof, but love the back sliding rear window. I also like the storage underneath a lot,how deep is that storage on the dc by the way?? I’m seriously considering of changing my mind though. I’m the only person who gonna drive it,I do have a 4 year old but he doesn’t care as long as he is riding with me. 😎 just wandering if the dc trd pro gonna have the jbl stereo as the cm. Appreciate your video sir, gonna view it again and again 🙏🏼ps I heard many times that the cm feels heavy and the dc feels quicker. Go to TundraDude34 lots of good 411 there. He had a dc and now has a cm,and says the same about the cm feeling heavy
Hey Albert. Sounds like you have a dilemma! When the time comes...just hit the dealership, drive both and get what feels best for you. There are pros and cons for both. The storage in the back is about 6-8” deep of memory serves...not near the truck at the moment👍
I think the double cab is much sportier than crew max. I don't like the looks of the crew max the rear door is way to big for the truck and looks out of place. The only way I would buy a crew max is if front and rear doors were the same size.
Double cab for old fred, the mrs. is a heavy load but old fred's got sumo springs for them sumo types. Bigger feels better you say ! that's the reason old fred married the mrs. Got a rumble seat over the tailgate for the old gal with a wide load sign too. Plenty of space for the Sausage bunch, farrah, frank, fritz, frieda and fred jr. can ride in style. Then old fred goes off roadin with the bunch bouncin......
Nowadays most of them have cavernous space in the back, more interior space, and larger gaps. Are we still talking about trucks? Lol Love your videos Rob, keep up the good work! Double cab for me!
That’s for sure. It’s amazing how much even the “small” trucks have gotten! Remember that old Datsun truck? They are tiny in comparison to today’s small trucks!!
I like my CrewMax and I was like you looking for a double cab, however it’s real easy to transport my cello. The bed… so far it’s been adequate. But, you know why they make both? Because to compete in today’s market you have to offer choices. Oh Geez… the ole fuel mpg topic! Get a Prius! If that’s a concern, because I had a 2015 F-150 Ecoboost and overall there are issues concerning ecoboost and I just didn’t like that overly light aluminum body feel. Surely lighter body you can tow more weight, but don’t overlook the physical factor that the weight on your tires is what gives you traction. So the big question is, how fast and short can you stop all that mass. Ponder on that a while.
had a double cab, traded it for a crew max. the extra space was nice but I rarely have a back seat passenger. I tow more than I haul in the bed so the shorter bed was not an issue. I missed the under seat storage of the double cab... kept my hitches, tie downs, etc in the box. Guess it doesn't matter.. I traded the truck for a new 4Runner. no lack of interior space now! lol
Crew Max is for girls who wear trucker hats and "men" that don't haul shit or work out of their pickup. The double cab is for those men who want a 1/2 ton that can do almost anything - and if you have the 8' bed - well than we all know whose got a pair..
I think you have a nice truck but the double cab has just never been for me. I just don’t like the looks of the short cab with those little back doors. That 1 mpg probably comes with the fact that the crewmax was 4wd and the doublecab is 2wd.
Enjoyed your video and candid style. Another benefit of the double over crew is that the double has better towing and payload capacity if that’s a concern for someone. Thanks for taking the time to do the video!
Good point.👍
The 1 foot of additional bed is worth more then the extra room in the back seat.
Depends on your needs I suppose.
It depends on how you going to use them. If you need to use truck bed go for double cab, if you don’t really need to use truck bed then go for crewmax. For me I go for double cab
Yup...I agree. However, I just like the looks of the dbl cab better. Also, wanted to try it out because I hadn’t had one👍
Crew for sure. Then haul all family to store to pick up groceries. Most trucks are used as grocerie haulers anyways.
Sounds good to me👍
You gotta admit though, that power rear window of the Crewmax is pretty sweet! I wish the double cab had it.
It is! TBH though...I rarely used it. It was cool to have for sure..but I don’t miss it🤔
I use mine all the time even going down the highway in the rain.
Double cab. Need the 6.5' bed and the DC looks better IMO. I put 5 adults in the DC all the time, its really not cramped back there.........just not as cavernous as the CM. If they added roll down back window i would of got the DC. But I just love that feature in the CM. So I just sacrificed 1.5 foot of cargo space.
It’s a pretty cool feature 👍
@@RobMotive I just got my tundra on Monday . And today my wife just found out about the back window. And she fell more in love with it
Lol!! Nice👍
@@adrianbucio3650 I see that powered back window as another point of failure.
I like the double cab
Me too👍
Part of the reason I went for crewmax years ago is because they have much higher resale value vs double cab in my area. When I sold it, that theory was confirmed.
That’ll be interesting to see hete🤔. I think Toyota’s in general have better resale👍
Tundra has amazing resale. I think I got close to 85% of what I paid for after 2.5 years of ownership.
Yup!! I agree. Best that I’ve had👍
Double Cab!! I haul more equipment and other stuff than people. Even then the DC is still big enough in the cab. Looks a lot better imo and it's cheaper and more useful for me
Yup..plenty of space in the DC👍
To each their own... I’m team Crewmax on this side, because of my wife and 4 kids! If only the double cab had the roll down back window... Crewmax BABY! Lol. At least you Doublecab guys have the bigger bed...
I can absolutely understand that!! Sounds like you definitely need the room!!!!!👍
You’ve got a big group there for sure!! Thanks for the kind words!! I really appreciate that 👍
I agree, if you can't get both I'd always take bed length over cabin space and I really don't use my bed that much.
I’m kind of torn🤔. I don’t mind the short bed. But, if I were hauling big stuff, a longer bed would be good too👍
I think the double cab looks better. Less like a family wagon. I’d prefer the look of a regular cab.
Regular cabs look the best modded and lifted IMO. It does seem that there are less and less of them on the lots these days though.
I have the crewmax...when we go camping we can fit two bikes in back..dont even have to take wheels off..and the bed I put the rest of our camping gear..I have a tanau top
Awesome! Sounds like a great setup👍

Sonds like you made the right choice! I love having the best of both worlds👍
Put the crewmax rear window on a doublecab and I'll agree with you
That would be cool👍
I also bought double cab because my fishing gears fit in the trunk bed better (65.FT) is better for my 2 piece 12-ft fishing rod. I don't have to worry about breaking the tip. Definitely more versatility with the longer bed. Sounds like a great choice for what you do with the truck👍
No sliding rear glass or moonroof available with the double cab.

The Crewmax is cavernous!! If I had two kids at home, that would definitely be my choice!!
FYI, according to KBB, crewmax approx. + $3000. resale value over same double cab.
How much more does it cost upfront? It's a wash
Crew cab all the way for me😉

Doesn't the crewman cost 4k more? Not worth that in my opinion.
At least 4K more.👍
Crewmax for me every day, all days of the week! 👍👍👍👍👍😎
Nice ride! Can you comment on the difference in turning radius between DC, CM and Tacoma? How long is the Tacoma box?
The Taco box is 6.5’. I have not checked TBH. But, as the Tundra is larger, it’s turning radius would be larger👍

I’d say the increased fuel economy is definitely due to the lower weight of the truck. That and the wildly more fuel efficient 4.6L motor👍
The double cabs are pretty ugly
Matter of preference I suppose.
Ist comment Hurray
Crewmax is for posers. Anyone who uses a truck for its actual purpose will always choose the double cab.
