    I rode a 1983 Harley FLH and then a Kawasaki KZ1000P as a Motor Officer. The Harley got more attention, but the Kawasaki was a performer. Good times.

    As a policeman in Rhodesia in the early seventies, the 350cc Yamaha R3, R5 and then the RD350 were used (all 2 strokes) , replacing the BSA matchless 500 single. The R5 was my favourite.

    There is also the legendary police bike that never was: The Ducati Apollo. The first ever 4 cylinder Duke with 1200cc and a (literally) tyre-shredding 100hp.
    Two prototypes were built.

    • @t.s.racing
      @t.s.racing 2 года назад +1

      Here's some information I do hope that you'll appreciate.
      The original Apollo had 100 horsepower, at 7000 r.p.m., with a 10:1 compression ratio, and 4 - 32 m.m. Dell'Orto SS carbs. Ducati called it the Sport Version.
      Tire technology or lack of at the time, furthered the development of the
      " NORMALE ", which had milder camshafts, only 8:1 compression ratio, a single 24 m.m. carb, for EACH bank of cylinders, which reduced the H.P. to approximately 80, at 6000 r.p.m.
      They then detuned, again, to 7:1 compression ratio, with even less duration camshafts, resulting in about 65 h.p.
      This would have been intended for Police use.
      I do hope that helps Sir.
      T.S. RACING

    • @gustavmeyrink_2.0
      @gustavmeyrink_2.0 2 года назад

      @@t.s.racing Not really. On the one hand I knew most of this already and on the other the Apollo was always meant to be a police bike since the entire development was funded from the very beginning by Ducati's North American importer with a eye on the lucrative police bike market. It was ultimately killed by the police insistence on 16" wheels. The power would not have been a problem had they allowed larger tyres.

    Moto Guzzi has used model 850 T3 (for example) in police services (carabineri). I have had one in original condition (blue). Heavy bike, not fast, bad brakes, thirsty and overheating quickly. But after changing to better Dell'Orto carburators, steel-flex brake-tubes and a more "open" exhaust it was a fine motorcycle for everyday use.
    But I miss here the really legendary Indian 750 Police Scout.
    And a JAWA police motorcycle doesn't exist? 😎
