I've been trying to grow that plant outdoor for years... it is a native damp-area plant, and it usually gets killed by rabbits before I get to enjoy it! Anyhoo, I've been looking at using it in an aquarium, and depending on which supplier's website you look at, it is either SUPER difficult, or EASY! Can anyone confirm which it actually is from experience?

What type of substrate is best for this plant and what's the worst? I don't know where you're located but in the US I looked it up and it shows to be at Wal-Mart. It looks like it's not inside an aquarium though and neither under water. Is that the wrong kind?

Hi Darnell. The best substrate for this plant is nutrient-rich and porous, which allows for good water flow and root development. A good choice of substrate for this plant is fine-grain aquarium soil, such as Tropica's Aquarium Soil or soil powder. tropica.com/en/plant-care/aquarium-soil/aquarium-soil-powder/
The worst substrate for Lobelia cardinalis would be one that is inert or lacks nutrients, such as gravel or sand. These substrates may not provide the necessary nutrients for the plant to thrive, which can result in stunted growth or even death.

Hi, here are a few classic tips you might want to consider:
To maintain its color in an aquarium setting, here are a few tips:
      1. Provide adequate lighting: Lobelia cardinalis requires moderate to high lighting to maintain its color. Make sure your aquarium has a suitable lighting system that provides enough light for the plant.
      2. Supplement with CO2: Lobelia cardinalis can benefit from additional carbon dioxide (CO2) supplementation. Consider adding a CO2 system to your aquarium to help promote healthy growth and color.
      3. Use a nutrient-rich substrate: Lobelia cardinalis requires a nutrient-rich substrate to thrive. Consider using a nutrient-rich substrate or adding root tabs to the aquarium to provide the plant with essential nutrients.

Same problem here. But I probably figured that out. Try reduce your light and inject liquid fertilizer into substrate so they can consume directly by root

A few days ago, I purchased both the mini and normal versions. I am using a high-tech CO2 injection system and Tropica active soil, and after just a few days, the mini version has already started growing new leaves. So I would say it's a pretty fast-growing plant.

Hey Lee. Thanks for the feedback, just to make sure we understand it correctly, you're missing some information regarding where the plants grow, what their needs might be and how they're supposed to develop in a tank? When clicking on a plant you should be able to find the above mentioned info, or is there other content you'd be interested in ?

      - no listing of plants/ needs -soil light / where from / ph etc you are know for your plants, not aquarium care.
