It didn't work. Thanks for nothing
Please be sure to leave me a thumbs down
@@CapnCrunchESO haha brilliant answer
for another game, called outer worlds, i turned off HDR. the game just couldnt handle it. i mean, it already has lag waves. like, you just move around, every second frames would drop to zero. the only recent change is that i got new screens, that now offer HDR. so i turned it off, and it fixed the lag spikes for me.
@@CapnCrunchESO Dont worry. I definitely did
I only have 8 gb ram and I have everything on low and it still lags
I don’t have stutter issues, just massive FPS drops when the game is loading in new areas(so running around the school has my FPS pinned at 20 even on a 3070)
same . my fps drops from 60 to like 10-15 in new areas or just randomly or in cutscenes. plz lmk if u find the fix
Thats shader compilation its the worst feature of modern gaming
For me too, but this solutions in video worked for me
I turned down my render distance so it doesn’t try and load trees and stuff that are a mile away.
Sounds like the same issue I'm having. Got in maybe 15 hours of gameplay since early release without a single issue, graphics were amazing and didn't have any fps/stutter issues until yesterday.
Runs almost perfectly now. My game was close to unplayable and combat was impossible and this almost completely fixed it. Thank you so much would of never thought to do this to fix it. Played with my settings for hours testing just for this to work in minutes. Appreciate your help to the community!!!
You’re welcome! I’m happy it worked
@@CapnCrunchESO maybe this is working for other games, too. Maybe stuttering in other games is caused by this windows function. Would be nice to give it a try
I have to try the second option, the game it's running fine, but it has these fps drops when entering some areas.
Google Control Flow Guard and you realise that you shouldn't turn it off. I don't understand why the uploader changes a random setting without explaining why, leaving tens of thousands of people with serious vulnerabilities on their systems by turning off important protection.
@@Adama.1 you are totally right - fallen into the trap - as now I am not able to turn CFG back on! I did not know that before, even his tip helped but now there is a serious gap in the browsing protection - this was not a good idea!
Now I have to look how to get rid of it - my current status of information is that it is not possible without a new windows 11 re-installation - or to go back to a system restore point... - any other help or other suggestion? - does reinstalling the 22H2 win update do the trick?
The fact that your video has 171K views just goes to show how insanely widespread this issue is, Usually smaller channels that make PC performance fix videos dont get this many views in such a short amount of time.
Yeah I’m seriously amazed they haven’t even acknowledged there is an issue
171k is a drop in the ocean really. I had no issues with it and my pc is average
@@MisterPotter some people have More tolerance twords stuttering doesn't mean it's not there and 171k people is 171k people who have paid for the game so that's not a drop in the ocean

Heh. Glad its workin for ya
This setting worked for me. The game still has fps drops in some sections, but the improvement in those areas once you transition from one place to another are quite high. Overall a better performance with this small tweak, pending an absolute improvement from the developers. Thanks for the video
I was still getting them a bit too so I dropped the tender distance and textures to medium. Visually it doesn’t make a difference but the lag spikes stopped
@@CapnCrunchESO whats your spec ?
Thank you! It does run better, the combat is smoother as well. There are some lag spikes when traveling for a bit to load the ares probably but hopefully with a day one patch this will also be resolved

I don't know how this could possibly affect game performance, but It basically stabilised the dips bellow 40fps for me. Once the area loads in, I can comfortably cruise between 50 and 70 without random drops to mid 30s. Much more stable game in general, higher CPU usage due to more work being done.. amazing. Thank you for this! I would've never solved it myself.

@@bricksstudio6697 no. there is no need to disabled this as long as you don't have a virus on your pc. A legit Program will never inject code into other programs.
The game has memory problems. If this works, it makes me think this game has some very weird memory problems.
Yep, it works. Got around a 10% improvement in my FPS and the stutters significantly decreased. If this is your main computer, don't do it as it significantly decreases the computer security. I did because all I use this OS for is playing.
Sweet glad it helped
You have no idea how greatful i am to have come across this video. I was so close to refunding this game, due to its unplayablity, especially during combat. This has truly saved the game for me. Endured through 3-4 hours of pain with frame drops down as far as 15fps during combat, it was unbelievably frustrating. Thank you once again for your invaluable solution.
same for me im so greatful to this person i tried like 4 method not of them work till i found this video ty soooooo much man❤❤
Through Steam? Normally, they don't let you refund after logging more than 2 hours of playtime. I was going to do the same thing, but I only had 5 minutes left to 2 hours and I wanted to find out if another "fix" worked (it didn't). Thus, putting me over the 2 hour mark.
@@batman313rd Yeah, you still definitely can, but it will not be as immediate as if you were to refund within the 2hrs. Once you've passed the 2hr mark, you will no longer be able to refund for things such as, not liking the game, or changing ur mind, but if the game is having significant problems that are rendering the game nearly unplayable, you can definitely apply for a refund, but you will also be subject to longer approval times.
Bro is the antivirus on or off.
Thank you so much! I pre-ordered this game and was really disappointed to see all the stuttering now it's all gone.
never preorder unless you're ready to deal with bugs. because you will actually pay more just to test the game for the developers :)
Yeah I expected there to be issues but was hoping there wouldn’t be any
This actually seemed to help significantly! Still has some issues but hogsmead was a pain before now it’s at least good enough
Glad to hear it helped a little :)
@@CapnCrunchESO can you explain why this helps? I know nothing about computer science, so this is crazy to me. I would think game devs would tweet or something about these simple fixes
I don't understand computers or tech well in general, so i have no idea what or why this works, but you're a life saver. Got rid of that horrible screen tear and blur I was having anytime I entered Hogsmeade, etc. TYSM!!!!!
Glad it helped :)
This fixed my game shuddering. I don’t know why, but it did. Thank you! I still get fps drops but I can live with that since it’s hardware related. This shuddering appeared for no apparent reason and I almost stopped playing because of it.
This made the game smooth as butter for me! Had major lag and stutters even on my 4090 card, turning off the DLSS made it somewhat better yesterday, but this little tweak made it flawless. Thank you very much!
it works better yes - but now you have a huge problem - you have a vulnerable browsing experience - CFG is forever disabled, means unwanted apps are not stopped any more!!! - windows re-installation required or back to a system restore point required - all a huge hassle! (CapnChrunch didn't know this probably)
@@Syntax1963A its only for the application hogwart legacy, its not desactivate for all
@@ac-wu7jq NO, that's not true as soon as you add a program to the list and disable CFG specifically for this program, all this safety featur will be disabled by windows for your windows version and not just for this program as some would think - (the bad thing is Microsoft not even give you a warning if you implement it, you just see it after the restart!) - just look in the Internet. This they made so Microsoft can be sure this feature works flawless. Try it - but better not do it, because as soon as you do it you are in big troubles!
This information you get from windows after you have done the above steps: 'You have deactivated optional diagnostic data in Windows. If you want to activate smart app control, you have to reset this PC or reinstall Windows and select optional diagnostic data during the setup process.' - typical Windows safety features, flaws all the way....

@@ac-wu7jq yes that is true, but the issue is Microsoft could at least implement a warning pop up: if you are sure to do this, as this will turn the whole safety feature off for your windows version! sweet! Glad it helped! and thank you for the comment
It could work a little better seeing how it just locks my game up at the load save screen.
I have no idea how yall come up with these obscure fix ideas but it worked. Not only did it fix the stuttering but it upped my fps by 30-50%
awesome! Glad to hear. I hope they come out with a patch for it soon
How do you even find out something like this?!
Thanks a bunch - made it thoroughly enjoyable now!
To those who can help, what solved the problem 100% for me was in amd, turning off the SAM then restarting the PC and then turning on the SAM and restarting the PC, and then entering the game
Fixed my game! All the characters looked like they were wearing masks, and they had no eyes. It was the stuff of nightmares. Thanks!
Awesome! Glad to hear it’s working for you now
Thanks man. spreading this for other people with issues. It seems most people either needed a nasa pc or a toaster pc
Omfg you're an absolute legend.. I was skeptical this would do anything whatsoever but now my game runs as smooth as butter... Even better than I expected it to.. Tysm!!!
im glad it worked for you! Thank you for the comment :) Have fun!
None of this worked for me. Not to mention the exploit fix opens up security issues.
But I did find a fix for my 4070 laptop.
I discovered everything related to DLSS causes stuttering and crashes on this game.
I tried without success:
- Exploit fix
- Manually updating DLSS files
- Increasing shader cache
- Every in-game setting possible
Here's what worked for me:
- Use AMD FSR 2.0
No, I am not joking. My FPS is maintained, no microstutters, no crashes.
Your a lifesaver thank you bro
If your playing Dead Space Remake the flow guard can help a good bit as well if you ever notice just about any game stuttering or not running well try out that Flow Guard setting and see if that helps just make sheer your doing like in this video and only doing it for program settings not system settings I repeat just the program settings.
Thanks mate!Idk man,it used to be so freaking simple some time ago,you had one job to do,install a game and play...nowadays it is a mess, fixes and endless optimisations,it is really sad.
I didn't expect this to work. It works almost perfect now thanks!
Awesome! Glad to hear it helped :)
You can also try to give Hogwarts Legacy a higher priority for RAM in the task manager. Worked for me atleast... :)
🎉thank you🎉 this has worked well for me. After I tweaked the graphics settings it was running but had massive freezes. After the exploit protection step, and after my pc reboot. The game runs flawlessly now. 😮 thank god. For reference I have a 2060 with i7 8700k 16gb of ram. I have no issue running ANY game even star citizen. However I’m glad this fixed work, now I can enjoy the rest of the game. (I will still be patiently waiting for a patch 😂🙌🏼)
is 16gb ram enough for the game or should i go for more?
@@alep1186 defo go for more. helps big time with stuttering and frame drops.

Now playing on High with no problem.
Thank you!

Sorry it didn’t fix the issue. Stop back by and let me know if you find something that does work.
Had such bad stuttering on PC with a 2080ti, 32 gb of ram and an m.2. Kept DLSS on, changed the protection setting and increased the shader cache size to 10gb in NVIDIA control panel. I can now run the game on ultra everything and get a stable 60 fps, sometimes more
I saw somewhere that updating the DLSS file in the game files to the latest version helps.
How do I do that?

I've got a really good computer, no lag or anything, just a really bad stutter in combat. I've tried your tips here, and they did improve the stutter while sprinting, almost removing it completely, but no affect on combat. I am going to keep trying some more things to fix the stutter while in combat, and watch some other videos to see if anyone discovered a good way already, I'll reply to this comment if I find anything. Thank you for this wonderful video.
What does turning off the upscale type do? Or what changes when it’s on? I have no idea for what it exactly is
Upscaling works like this: If you use upscaling the game will be rendered at whatever you've set it at, like 1080p or 720p or whatever, but NVIDIA DLSS or whatever upscaling you chose will take that render and scale it up to fit whatever screen you're using. So you might be rendering the game at 1080p but upscaling it to 4K. It is a lot less power intensive than rendering the game at 4K.
Thanks for explaining it before I could get through all the comments @Seffyzero
When I try to add steam library it says “you can’t open this location using this programs please try a different location” please help
You want to make sure you select the .exe inside the hogwarts legacy folder

How can you tell me it's not placebo when it's not even the right .exe file? Everyone literally did nothing and is suddenly experiencing stutter free fps boosts.
I was looking for someone to mention this! All these people imagining improvements and thanking for nothing!
Thanks, it fixed most if not all of the frames' instabilities during normal gameplay (loading spikes are still there).
Yeah I was still
Having a bit of lag and turning down the render distance seems to have fixed it. I think my pc is just a potato
This was a thing in FF15, no idea why CFG has so many issues, blows my mind.

Hey, i can't try this right know and I don't know if it works. But I'm very interested in what this exploit does, can you explain what we are disabling and why.
What a LEGEND I was legitimately thinking of buying a new SSD because I thought that was the problem! You the man!
You’re welcome! Have fun!
This actually worked for me and solved my constant stuttering. I have a 4090 13900k with 32gb of ram, and i still was getting drops every 5 seconds. Now it's smooth as butter. This fix seemed so random but hey, if it works it works! Thanks!
It seems to run better, thank you! Can I ask you what that option in window Exploit actually do? I would like to try it on other games (for example Elden Ring, which still suffer a bit of statter sometimes), but I'm not so sure if I should try or if it could give me some problems...
Exploit protection prevents malicious programs from running on your pc. We added an exception to tell windows the game isn’t a malicious program.
@@CapnCrunchESO I don't know if it's normal, but maybe I saw an increased RAM usage after this method. Is it possible? It arrived near 95% usage, as if the statter sometimes is still there and caused by too much RAM capped.

DLSS fucked my frames up big time so was an issue for me, after I turned it off getting much better performance. Must depend on your setup

i have an i7 8700k, rx 6700xt, 500gb ssd and 16gb of ram. I did all of these fixes and it helped, but there still is a bit of stutter here and there. Is this a system issue or a backend bug portkey and avalanche need to fix?
Nah broo , your pc is more than enough, its the game , it has issues
You can try to download and install the ascendio mod, it’s supposed to help.
I have a 3080ti and what I found was giving me major performance drops was the field of view. Any adjustment and I would drop from 140ish fps to 60> fps with tons of spikes and drops. I've tested this on both ultra and high settings and got the same results
Yeah so basically your PC only renders what’s on the screen, not anything behind or to your sides. Decreasing the FOV will decrease the amount of objects your machine needs to render.
Lifesaver, was going with this trouble for a day until i said no and first video i clicked is this and it helped me, it still stutters ever two hours once but i can work with that thank you

Dude that actually helped, the game was fine before, played it for 50 hours then it started stuttering and freezing everywhere, this helped, THANK YOU!
Wow this made a night and day difference for me. So much smoother.
DLSS seemed fine though but it doesn’t really give me much more fps having it enabled.
Thanks a lot for the tip.
im glad it worked for you! Thank you for the comment :) Have fun!
DLSS increases 1%low FPS very much. Don't just look for real time FPS. It plays way smoother with DLSS turned on.
I use DLSS as a form of AA. I get 120fps with or without DLSS or frame generation at 1440p lol. The occasional dips, stutter and feeling of it not being smooth in some areas is another matter.
The thing I’ve found with all these videos is that they don’t all agree on how to “fix” these issues. It would be nice if they included pros and cons to fiddling with settings. Turning off exploit protection sounds it could have a downside 😢
Actually seems like that worked, Thanks!!!
Glad it helped, mine seems to be working now too. Only very small frame drops. Nothing like I had before
Wow this actually works! I can now at least see the loading animations on the bottom right of the screen. I am also getting way smoother fps! Thanks.
For example, lower the fog and the sky and the quality of the processing to low, it also makes the game go much better.
In the NVIDIA control panel, in the option to adjust the desktop color configuration called "Digital vibrance", you will have it at 50%, if you raise it to 80%, the game goes from having dull colors to having more colors alive and the difference is incredible.
(Please excuse me for the translator, I don't speak English, I'm Spanish)
Instead of Digital Vibrance I would recommend everyone to always install a Reshade for their single player games, I do this for every game I play and it adds so much more detail and flavor to the game. Things like extra Ambient Occlusion, depth of field, adaptive sharpening (about 100 effects to choose from and edit to your liking)
I don't get why people think over saturation and vibrance looks good at all.
@@ZeqHDx It's good to know, I'll try it.

@@pauliusbaltas You need more RAM as well. The recommended requirements are only 16gb so the fact that you are seeing 18gb usage screams it is a VRAM leak. That only happens when the memory is allocated from the fast VRAM to the much slower RAM.

Got a 3070 ti, AMD Ryzen 3700x, 16gb and the game recommends high graphic settings but it doesn’t matter if I run it on low, it still gives me crazy FPS drops and stutters. My friend has a 3090 and we both can play the game on high/ultra with +60fps but it quickly drops from time to time for no reason.
I did everything in this video but did not really help. Made something else that resolved everything for now tho. I have desactivated Vsync from Nvidia control panel and from the game. (never reaching over 144 fps) I have confirmed my refresh rate in display settings. I have activated Nvidia DLSS (quality). After playing a while and see no improvement, I decided to activate ray tracing and restarted the game. When I went back the lag was still there so I desactivated Ray tracing without restarting the game and for "x" reason, everything works like a charm since then. Everything is at ultra
he said to try it with dlss off
For me it runs best with Ray tracing and DLSS off with the render distance set to medium. Good luck
Nice, was waiting for some god tier human to find a fix like this. Tyty
You’re welcome!
Unfortunately for most people none of these "tricks" work. I spoke to customer support yesterday and its an issue where the game doenst utilize the hardware properly. A patch is in the works but all we can do is wait :C
Try to download and install the ascendio mod, it’s supposed to help.
@@CapnCrunchESO where do i find that
I never saw this and a saw a lot of pttimization vids over the years. Trying out when I get home.
Can anyone explain what that actually does? Will it help other games too?
Exploit protection prevents malicious programs from running on your pc. We added an exception to tell windows the game isn’t a malicious program.
how can you even dare to let people deactivate important security features without explaining them, what they do? Besides that I think no game is worth messing up your PC security just against some stutter which even might get fixed with a patch soon....
If you don’t want to mess with security settings Try to download and install the ascendio mod, it’s supposed to help.
Hey man, just want to let you know. This worked for me! It massively improves the stuttter for me! Cant believe i got the solution from a year old video ahahah you rock
@@alphaomega8481 I’m happy it helped! Have fun it’s a great game!
Didn’t like make my pc a super computer but my frames don’t like drop to 20 randomly. This made the game so much better
MY MAN!! didnt fix all my FPS issues but the vast majority, way more playable. you win a sub and a like!!!
There's still optimization issues with the game. We need a patch or several before it's actually fixed. I can't run the game on more than medium settings at 1080p on a 3070 without bad frame drops in certain areas. Some people are claiming there's a memory leak too.
I didn't even try this yet but i believe from the comments that it will work so ty!
It’s been a week since you posted this. Hope it helped!
Thanks bro! I was so disappointed bc I was having so much fun, but this helped a ton.
Hopefully you weren’t late for your potions class dealing with the lag
that actually helped me instantly 😭😭 thank you
