Dude, I remember when I started going to a drum teacher, she was really old school. I was doing a whole year only snare drum and note reading before she even let me sit on a drum set :D

I know when I started out drumming I had the same problem she had with the time and trying to rush through it. I used at home during practice a metronome music timer. That helped me a lot to slow down and control my timing. I can see that she really is enjoying learning the drums. That is half the battle right there. The more she plays and learns the better she will get. I think you should make a weekly video of her progress.

I can't get over how low that snare is especially in relation to the toms and the high-hat! I couldn't play like that, I need to have snare, hats and toms pretty much at the same height.
Egalitarianism2016 I lowered the snare for her... the toms are where I play and I just didn’t lower them. It’s not normally set up like that

My unsolicited advice for Lindsay 😂
I find it helpful to hum what I’m trying to play. If you can hum it, you can probably play it…. Even if it’s not great at first.

Wyatt, how do you account for pieces of a kit that you don't have when doing covers?? Since drums aren't like guitar, where you can pick up any guitar and play a song pretty much regardless of the guitar so long as it has strings, what do you as a drummer do when you want to cover a song and the drummer you are covering has pieces in his kit you don't have?? Thanks for the great content
