cant you use extruded polystyrene? it will not make that much mess when cutting.

Thanks! This is a lot cheaper.. But the quality is also a lot less. Harder to shape and to glass.. I've never used a real blank so far..

Your work is wonderful. What kind of material did you use? PU or EPS and what density do you prefer ?

This is EPS 200. I would prefer a higher number EPS because it's more solid, but it's very hard to come by.

I did this 20 + years ago with eleven stringers and very little waste. The boards never broke ~ AND they all lasted about 15 years at Waipio bay and Hapuna point Hawaii ~ Only gained water weight ~ This seems extremely wasteful. Use unidirectional + E cloth (carbon)

Was it difficult to shape with the carbon fiber stringer? How does it compare to a wooden stringer when trying to shape the foam? Did the planer do a good job planing down the carbon fiber?

@@chucknorris9826 It is planeable with an electric planer. but it damages your blade. Rough sandpaper works quite well good for me. Handplanes don’t work. So I’d say it’sharder to work with than wood when you are used to using planers, but easier when u use sandpaper.
