    As a practicing Stoic what does one do if someone is pushing you into a corner to fight?

    • @3vil3lvis
      @3vil3lvis Год назад +3

      While my philosophy isn't purely stoic, and your question is vague I will offer my best advice and mantra: You deserve what you are willing to tolerate. If someone is mistreating you, it is your responsibility to address it. You must take the leadership role in this and your primary goal is in setting expectations. Have a conversation with this person, let them know their behavior is unacceptable. Often times this is enough, and when it isn't distance can be the best solution.

    Is it 12 or 10? Only 10 subtitle screens are present in this video. I'd guess the title is a typo.

    Oh dear Mr. Holiday, I saw something today and guess who it made me think of? Ha! The sign I saw said, "Don't just say that you have read books. Show that through them you have learned to think better." ~Epictetus Don't even think that you're not reaching people with the stoics, you are indeed. Many blessings to you and thank you dear one.

      Full quote for anyone who may be interested: "Don't just say you have read books. Show that through them you have learned to think better, to be a more discriminating and reflective person. Books are the training weights of the mind. They are very helpful, but it would be a bad mistake to suppose that one has made progress simply by having internalized their contents.”― Epictetus, The Art of Living: The Classical Manual on Virtue, Happiness and Effectiveness

    I read Meditations two years ago. I have read it again three more times and yes, every time I get a new understanding, a new clarity, I appreciate the deep, humble and powerful wisdom of that extraordinary man, the Emperor Marcus Aurelius, someone who ruled the world and left it a better place for all of us, two thousand years later, by this private journal of his. After "Meditations" I read "The Discourses of Epictetus", Seneca's "On the Shortness of Life" and these have changed my life, in a way I never thought possible. The only regret I now have is to have discovered these doors to happiness and fulfillment past my 50's. But, on the other hand, what remains of my life will surely be way better than the previous period of it. Thank you Ryan Holliday for your efforts, your dedication.

    What if there were required material that a president needs to read before a political party can nominate an individual for office. Constitutional law is not a sufficient depth needed for a leader. You must also include public speaking, philosophy, and ethics.

    0:17: 📚 Leaders are made, not born, and Marcus Aurelius is a prime example of this.
    3:28: 💡 Leaders in the information age lack space for reflection and solitude, resulting in reactionary decision-making.
    7:08: 💼 Taking on leadership responsibilities means being responsible for solving problems and helping others.
    10:52: 📚 The video discusses the leadership philosophy of Marcus Aurelius based on four key virtues: courage, discipline, justice, and wisdom.
    14:45: 📚 The video discusses a better way to deal with civil strife and the opportunities it presents.

    Thinking of Bill Clinton rereading Meditations is hilarious to me. Oops Juanita broaddrick got to reread Meditations, oops Monica Lewinsky got to reread Meditations, oops Paula Jones better reread Meditations, another authorized unnecessary bombing got to reread Meditations. I imagine him in Dantes inferno in the 6th circle rereading Meditations in that blue dress with the rest of the Epicureans.

    All these things that you are going to tell the public, Our Holly Prophet "Hazrat Muhammad PBUH"told us 1400 years ago, and also Holly Book "Qurran Al Karim" teaches us about virtue and wisdom as well as humanity. That's why Holly Prophet PBUH is the great leader of all our the world. We should follow him and then should compare with others.
