    Thank you so much for this video! It took me about 2 hours to do the first side figuring everything out and 30 minutes to do the second side once I knew what I was doing, thanks to this video! :)
    The magic tool for this job is a
    14mm ratchet wrench for the top shock bolts, especially the one in the back.

  • @AlexImpulse01

    I did this on saturday. have to watch out for those rear brake lines. Disconnected the brackets that held them after I saw they were being stretched. Also, I disconnected the track bar and sway bar and everything shifted about 1-2 mm and it was such a PITA to line it back up. Glad it's done!

    • @SnailTrail4x4
      @SnailTrail4x4  6 лет назад

      Good job, I'm happy to hear you took this project on by yourself. Definitely disconnectimg the break lines is a good idea. You don't want the axle to be healed up by that rubber hose.

  • @enkrypt3d
    @enkrypt3d 6 лет назад +9

    use a bottle jack on top of the rear axle and extend it all the way under the rear bump stop. This means you don't have to disconnect anything in the back! :)

      @@byinyang7060 I used the bottle jack from my 4runner and did not break anything and in fact worked like a charm since i did not have a second person for the job. The key here is to gently hand screw the jack as you put slight pressure down on the axle to get the distance you need to lift in the spring. Never force it- just gentle pressure

    Wish it was that easy on the limited with Xreas. Even thought the manual states that you can disconnect the Xreas at the QD points if all 4 tires are in the air; I do not want to really mess with the Xreas lines. I have a Frankenstein lift kit waiting to be installed. Rear spacers and diff drop are from Ready lift and the front spacers are "non clocked" modified ( Readylift) spacers where the original shock bolts are still in line with the new bolts that attach to the tower. Due to the way the Xreas lines attach to the struts you can not clock the strut otherwise you will stretch the Xreas lines to there breaking point at full droop.

    Nice and thank you for the clarity and step-by-step. Have you noticed a need to relocate the front bump stop? I understand that with spacer lifts like this they can render the factory-located front bump stop inoperable making the shock your compression limiter (not ideal and a $pendy bump stop). Thanks. I've gained info through many of your other posts and write-ups.

    • @SnailTrail4x4
      @SnailTrail4x4  6 лет назад

      You do bring up a good point, but we haven't seen it as an issue. I might go so far out as to say that most stock shocks have the room for expansion like a small 1-1.5 in lift.

      Moar questions:
      @ 2:55 when the rotated strut doesn't line up with LCA bracket, could you just turn the strut bottom with an aligning bar in the bottom hole and turning, or would you have to compress the spring for this to work? thanks

    • @asplenic16180
      @asplenic16180 5 лет назад

      figured this out on a buddy's rig. Yup. When the top of the strut is mounted you can spin the bottom using an alignment tool to line it up in the strut mount bracket on the LCA.

    Thanks for the video! Just got a 2019 4Runner TRD, and recently ordered 2.5" spacers for the front. Is there a need to remove the skid plate and add spacers to the skid plate? Will there be rubbing while off-roading? Thank you!

    • @SnailTrail4x4
      @SnailTrail4x4  4 года назад +1

      If you're going to loosen the Lower Control Arm (LCR) are to make it easier to fit the spacer into place you will need to remove the skidplate. You can probably get it down without loosing the LCA, but it's more difficult. The running comes from your tires and wheels choice not from the lift so I can't answer that without knowing the size of the tires, wheels, offsets/backspacing or if your going to add wheel spacers.

      The sleeve spacers used in this video are not correct for this vehicle and are going to crack the top factory spring locator. There’s another video where the guy double checked the application and said they were listed for the 5th gen But if that’s the case it is the worst engineering imaginable and anyone who would be attempting to install them should stop immediately and go with a different brand that goes and hangs over the top of the spring and then has the taper on top to sit into the vehicle female recess properly which these in the video also do not have!!

    I just got done doing my brand new fifth generation front and back and I went back to this video to check on something and took a closer look at those rear spacers… They should have NEVER been put on the vehicle because they are an engineer an disaster!! That extended section that you put down word is going to probably eventually break the factory spring seat/bump stop locator AND The top of those spacers do not have the proper shape (a radius/angle on the outside like the Daystar and Rancho) to properly center and seat themselves into the upper spring recess. Your intuition was correct and those need to come out and go in the trash. Look online at the other brands and you’ll see what I mean. That company you used is a train wreck.

      It won't change your alignment, it might change a little bit of your camber and Caster but not enough to truly be noticeable.
      Your ride might be a little bit more stiff and might not handle as well because your center of gravity is slightly higher but it's a matter of if you want the vehicle to look level or ride better. If you have the kdss the difference in drivability wasn't very noticeable at all.

But as someone who drives on the beach and Rocky trails a bunch I'm thinking the extra height will indeed enhance the rigs overall offroad performance in those situations. Granted the suspension has not been enhanced. But the extra height enhances the overall options of where you can take the rig, no? I know when I'm in some of the deeper tire ruts on the beach I get sand going into that vent thing on the OEM front skid. Sometimes sand on top of the control arms as well. Hi great video!!! 👍👍👍 I have a 2012 TOYOTA 4RUNNER that I would like to put a liftleveling kit on to it!!! I would like to get some of your advice as to which one I should go with!!! I'm doing it for cargo weight purposes, another words I will be carrying about 700lbs to 800lbs of car audio equipment in the rear cargo area!!! So I would appreciate any advice as to what would be a good liftleveling kit to go with considering the amount of weight I will be careing around!!! The tires that I had in mind of using are 275/55R20's or 275/60R20's ultra high performance all season tires!!! Your help and advice would be much appreciated thank you!!! Once again great video!!! 👍👍👍

    • @SnailTrail4x4
      @SnailTrail4x4  6 лет назад

      The leveling kit linked below is a great simple kit. It shouldn't have any problems fitting your tires and you won't have to do any body mount trims till a large 33" (295/55 r20). I was thinking about your weight and I would get some Toytec heavy duty rear coils. But 800lbs is about 4 adult males and the truck should be able to handle that.

    Hello and thanks for the video. In some tutorials I see a use of "arm puller" when removing front struts. Is it necessary and how/where do I use it? I have a 2010 limited with X-reas.

    • @SnailTrail4x4
      @SnailTrail4x4  6 лет назад +1

      +Alex Dorozhkin -- we didn't need to use an arm puller or spring compressors.
      When you unbolt the spindle from the upper control it gives you all the room you need. You can also watch the video how to level a 4runner and we hand to remove the struts there also. It will have you another perspective.

    • @SnailTrail4x4

      It really depends on what type of off-roading you're going to be doing and how aggressive or heavy-footed you are. If you're going to be doing anything more than just fire roads, I would suggest doing a suspension lift. Check out Rough Country they have some good lifts as well, that are not as expensive as king or icon. If you're just looking to get the body a little higher a spacer leveling kit is a good solution

    • @SnailTrail4x4
