AL, YOU HAVE BIG ROCKS!!! My creeks floods a lot and was washing out the bridge. My son-in-law put in a culvert that he could drive his suburban through will lots of clearance all the way round, He put the pretty landscaping rocks you use for holding terraces, I told him it wouldn't work, but it did make it through 3 hurricanes. Washed the dirt out from under the culvert and collapsed the drive. He built a new bridge without the culvert. He also got wire cages and put rip pap in the cages. This was where the water hits the edge of the creekbank where the bridge needs to be. The cages are about approximately 3 feet thick from the creek bed to the top of the creekbank. That was about 10 years age, and although the creek has flooded a few times, The bridge still stands..

Hi, Al, Ben, and Jason! What a week! Jason, I’m happy you still have 17 turkeys. Al, so sorry about the damage from the rain. Ben, I’m grateful you and the boys didn’t get injured working on the tree.
Considering natural disasters and bucket failures, what are the 5 or10 backup /spare parts you'd like to always have on your homestead. I'm not talking plastic ties but, things like a well pump or hydraulic fluid. People always talk food but what about non-food items? Al, you're off grid. Does your solar array require maintenance? What about on-grid, Al or Ben. Do you have generators as backup? Curious as to how you all prepare for a week or two of upsets due to natural disasters. This is my 56th time viewing your podcast. I love them, keep them coming.
Buddy & Stephanie Denman were on vacation. In Montana & a tree fell on their roof. What a mess they have. Cut their vacation short & drove like 20 + hours straight to get home. Peacham, Barnett, Plainfield, Moretown, Barre, and Waterbury all were trashed. I was sooo lucky in Berlin, Vt this year. Last year, I had about 5 feet in my cellar, and my property and everything in my barn on the first floor were toast. This year WE were fine, but other places have huge damage. Morgan Gold's town is Peacham, and a young man drowned there, in Lyndonville, a man drowned. I am so, so sad at the devastation in our state. Find a drywall taper and make friends. Those five gallon "mud" buckets for the joint compound are some of the heaviest duty buckets I have seen in my life. I have a handful that are over forty years old in my basement right now with tools in them. Plus that drywall mud is just gypsum and water mostly. There might be a few chemicals similar to soap in them to make the stuff creamy but nothing that would poison animals. Truth is that Ben's hydraulic fluid bucket could be cleaned out with Dawn dish soap. They use that to get crude oil off of birds when there is a spill. Two or three good scubbings with that soap/degreaser and it would be fine to use. At least I would use it. I would scrub it and rinse a couple of times and then fill it to soak for a few days with that soapy water and rinse again, then dry it in the sun. Might be your strongest bucket ever.

But it sounds like the area is large enough that you can spread them out and not leave pockets of air when covered in gravel.
