One of my best memories in my chess life was playing Paul Keres in a simultaneous exhibition in Kingston, Ontario in 1975. It was at an auditorium; and when I arrived they were setting up the tables in preparation for the event. There was hardly anyone there at this time as this was taking place. I looked over at one of the corners and there was this man sitting down by himself in a grey suit. His legs were crossed and his arms folded and his hair was combed straight back, as he waited for the activity to finish. I had brought two chess books with me, one from the San Antonio tournament of 1972, and a book on Rook Endings by Smyslov. I went over to him and said hello and asked if he would sign his autograph on one of the books. He took the books and looked at them. He smiled at the San Antonio book, for the picture that was of him in the book was when he was younger and heavier; not at all what he looked like at this time. When he took the Rook Endings book he looked up at me and said: "Do you think you will get this far with me?" I smiled nervously and replied "no". He signed both books and handed them back to me. I still have those books. By the way he played 34 persons won 32 lost one and drew one. You know he died a few months later in that year from heart failure. I treasure the memory of the interaction with him. It is as clear as if it happened yesterday.
you are lucky to talk with one of the best chess players ever (definitely in Top 10)
@@saulsavelis575 He made his own luck.
Beautiful
Thank you for sharing your experience!
That is so freaking cool!!
My friends were actually impressed when I flaunted my knowledge on the 1959 candidate tournament!
Thanks Agadmator
The 1959 candidates tournament can have a strong influence on the weak- minded.

Congratulations! :)
Thank you Agadmator, Love from India to Croatia
How time flies! :D
Look, I'm going to need you to stop. If I get any more knowledgeable about the 1959 Candidates Tournament, then I won't be able to pry the women off of me.
*Finally Tal actually resigned* only in a losing position instead of a winning one.
It was important to him to be unpredictable.
Thank you!! Greetings from Estonia!
:D
Thanks for showing the standings, nearly forgot it today. Now I'll be able to tell my family the standings of the 1959 candidates tournament with more confidence. Once again, thank you agadmator!
You never know when this info might come in handy :)
Jeopardy contestant: "I'll take 1959 Candidates tournament for $800, Alex"
Technically, every move Tal plays is a Tal move...
James Fedora so true
:D
Sometimes he would tell stories. They were Tal tales.
😁
11:16 "...Keres is not the one to be fooled by sorcery and piracy" , brings smile the way you say it.
Happy calebration to you all Estonians
Thank you.
Thank you!
This game remains me the Najdorf quote "When Spassky offers you a piece, you may just as well resign, but when Tal offers you a piece, go on playing, he may sacrifice another, and then ... who knows?". Happy anniversary Estonia!
I like the ongoing joke "Tal resigned the game" ...you should say that on one he isn't even playing in. :)
he already did that
Thank you very much! I am pleased to see my favourite youtuber dedicate a video for my home country's hundredth birthday.
Happy birthday Estonia! And thanks to Agadmator for marking the occasion.
I actually put that photo as the wallpaper on my phone. Looks damn awesome
Happy birthday, Estonia. Fascinating country. And homeland to my favorite player, Keres (Tal a close second!). These two certain enjoyed some brilliant battles of wills over the years. Great videos, Agadmator, thank you.
Great match. Happy anniversary, Estonia! Love from Bulgaria.
Happy birthday Estonia!!! Love from India❤
Pritam Chakraborty happy birthday india
Hey, i started watching at 30k, absolutely love the story, the games, it’s like poetry of reason. So I started playing again, and to every party I take a chess game, always a big crowd watching, and big boys wanting to show the ladies how smart they are. Always losing tho, because of my vast knowledge of the candidates. Thank you for getting me girls aga, love you! And greetings from Germany! (Next Intro in German plllls) xD
Keres did not fall for Tal's tricks, great players, thanks for uploading.
Most epic opening!
The song is Trad Attack - Sõit, if you're interested :)
Thanks :)
@@Dakedoom Thank you, pal! Was looking for this from the Best Moments 1 video. Love the song!
I like the fact that you don't fix your tiny lapsus lingua in your videos, it makes them look very natural and shows again and again how much passion you have about chess and this channel itself. Keep up the good work gade jedan matori :P
Paul Keres was a ALL TIME GREAT..A Complete chess player -- Strategic & tactical ..Superb in attack , counter sttack & in defence...He deserved to hv bcom the World Champion..
Independence Day greetings to Estonia from India.
Happy centenary to the Estonians, greetings from Brazil.
Nick RB2000 happy century brazil
Sometimes Tal's mad genius moves gets him into trouble. Not often, though. I think your Tal videos are the most enjoyable, because you never know what you're going to get with Tal.
Thanks for keeping us fellow folks from USA informed about world events, we can use all the help we can get!
If you ever happen to see this and would like to share that amazing intro song I would be even more grateful to you, which is hard to imagine, because wow, what an amazing channel! :)
hahahahaha the intro was amazing !!!
Thank you! Very nice of you to play the music for Estonia big day
Someone today mention to me that the candidates tournament is coming up. I thought he was talking about the one in 1959.
:D
I panicked when the video was almost over and the standings hadn't been shown yet. Luckily I watched until the very end and caught them :)
i dont often watch long videos as i am put off by the duration. however your videos agadmator, i begin watching and cruise til the end. this is a good thing for you to be able to keep your audience engaged, well done
Thank you, Antonio! Kind regards from Estonia! :)
I've been watching these videos for a while now, but the fact that you chose to do a video to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Independence of Estonia made me think that I really ought to subscribe, so I did. Well done Agadmator!
Congratulation to Estonia and it’s people and greetings from the USA!
Greatest quality pic (of the time) featuring one of the greatest chess players of all time !!
Well done agad
Great game! I think that Paul Keres is that greatest Chess Player who never won the World Chess Championship.
Very nice of you remembering us! Thank you!
Nice way to introduce yourself with a music. Please do it every time if possible.
This is the first time Tal attacked but lost. Usually when he loses it's because he played an unromantic game, but here he sacrificed two pieces!Well defended by Keres!!
Congratulations for your channel Agadmator. I watch your videos everyday ! I almost feel I begin to play like Tal sacrificing all my pieces one after another... ending up loosing... Seriously I just read your interview (with google trad of course): it was a good choice, keep the hard work and Don't let us down !! Cheers from France
1:19 that guy on the left. His real name is Andy Dufresne. He spent some time in Shawshank. Just take my word for it. 😎
I knew he reminds me someone really hard! Andy Dufresne definitely :D
Hahaha good one, I saw that movie.
You do a good job agadmator interesting the way you speak and the atmosphere of your room with the dog makes a warm atmosphere my Croatian friend.Im from Bulgaria.Greetings.
Thank you from Estonia! :-)
"Tal is haunted by the posibilities of the position" So well put
The picture is amazing. Looks like a poster of a movie!
Thanks. It is not often that we see a Tal attack go awry. I used to think only my attacks were. :-)
Happy birthday, Estonia 🇪🇪
Sending love from India.
This was a Really Great Game!
some say agadmator played '59 candidates matches at his own wedding
Aitäh!
I always come back to the 1959 candidates tournaments to fall asleep, but now I’m fully awake because of Estonia’s anthem
#suggestion Magnus Carlsen vs Viswanathan Anand, 2013, Chennai.
that photo is sooo nice
Music is great .... agadmator can you please help me in downloading that music....?????
This time definitely Tal resigned the game
Thanq Agad ~
Thank you! :)
Great choice of game happy bday Estonia
Best chess channel on youtube
great video agadmators
that photo really is perfect.
Hemingway quote.... you're the top!
Very nice to notice Estonia!!!
What is that lit af music opening and where can I get its PGN? :^)
Interesting, an Estonian in every port. My Estonian dad was born in 1906, and supposedly in prison for a couple of years in his teens. He'd hide in garbage cans throwing rocks at the Germans soldiers. I wish I had more time to understand this as I was too young to ask him "Real" questions. He stoad away in a ship hiding underneath a pile of coal. Instead of throwing him over, they gave him a job as a ship's oiler. He married my mom who was 25 years younger, a Japanese woman. She is 86 now, with dementia. When I was 5, he taught me the game of Chess and at 7, I won the northern California Boy's club chess championship in the 12 year old category. I only have a couple of memories with him, but one of the fondest was, staying up at night with him, playing chess. I believe that the US or maybe better said that the UN, has an agenda of destroying our health and minds these day. As I can only beat "Your Turn" at level 6, one out of twenty times. I use to be able to see many moves ahead, but those days are over.
Thanks for the story. I imagine your dad would be happy to see Estonia celebrate today. Hats off to him and to all Estonians.
GREAT VIDEO AS ALWAYS, ANTONIO! I was just wondering... When you say "you can check 2 of my previous videos here..." and only after 5 seconds do they appear on the screen... What's the idea here? I mean, it might be an innacuracy or simply a Tal move that's beyond me, but I think it would be better to have them appear while you're saying that line, otherwise you're just pointing nowhere.
PS: poor Tal, he always resings in winning positions but his opponents never do the same! lol
It's a zwischenzug.
#suggestions love your content, pls more of Paul Keres.
4:06 so Tal is playing both side.
What a lovely musical intro XD
When tal is playing, Technically every move he does is a tal move...
thank you love from nepal
What is the name of the intro song?
Efforts and commitment! 👍👍
what a start to the video...😎
Happy Birthday Estonia!
First Agad video that doesn't begin with "HELLO EVERYONE"
Keres is like mixture of Tal and Fischer, something impenetrable.
#suggestion
Flohr-Vidmar from 1936. A nice use of rook and an beautiful endgame
this 59 idea/show was incredibly good
you'd wish to put them in some eternal magic box and make them play forever ..
So early in mexico. And im allready watching!! Thanks agadmator. BTW Whats your name?
His name is Antonio Radić
Hey agadmator, I love the vid! 💖 Can you please place the name on the side of the player? I mean if Tal is black, that Tal's name is the upper one? :) My English is not very good, do you understand my what I mean?
I love your videos👌
At 10:00 I would suggest for Tal to play Qxd4, winning the passed pawn and pinning the knight.
What do you guys think?
Paul Keres the immortal jiant. Salutes. Happy 100 birthday of the nation
you never really explained the music at the start of the video
#suggestion I just rewatched your Fischer-Taimanov video(game 4) and I was wondering if you have time for another endgame lesson(it doesn't necessarily need to be Fischer's, it can be Botvinnik or Capablanca's, it doesn't really matter).
#suggestion - If you haven't already, I think a Petrosian v. Spassky first championship match that Petrosion won, would be really interesting.
Hey agadmator, i would like to see a game where one of tal's sacrifices goes wrong i think it would be interesting
This is one of those games!
Tal is like Roger Federer,. Others look ordinary
Song's name please? :D
Recently you've only been showing the legendary games, how about you start a series where you play online and make a little commentary about your and opponents moves at the same time?
Amazing game, it reminds my own game, losing a couple of pawns and going to the endgame is usually not a good sign
On move 20 at around 5:50 why is Qxd4 not a viable option? It wins the pawn and defends the knight. (I know, there's probably an obvious refutation, but I'm curious and as a chess player, that's a good thing)
Can you show a magnus bullet game? Really missing the magnus vids
Is that bird all right? It looks to be struggling a bit
Happy estonian day to all
Nothing against 1959. What I enjoy most about it is the USSR's legendary post-war chess . Hope you can keep the focus when 1959 is over. As long as you make videos on tournaments between 1950 and 1990 it shouldn't be a problem.
Why you dont make live streaming and playing some games?
"The idea of c5 is completely beyond me...." Watching this a year later makes it even better.
at 5:48 you missed that he couldnt save the knight, of course every strong player knows that a knight is much better than one central pawn (2 would be ok), hope i clarified i @agadmator's Chess Channel
Happy centennial Estonia!!
Nice information about chess
