Pro tip: don’t stress yourself trying to keep your battery health high. Just enjoy your phone, use it however you like, just get the battery replaced when it’s below 80%. Or if you upgrade each year, health should not be a problem anyway, as you don’t go lower than 80% in a year anyway.

As an iPad/iPhone Pro you need to understand:
My iPad Air is 9 years old and works fine, on the original battery. I believe it has been slowed by Apple.
Certainly to speed it up removing old photos, emails and memory, saved reloading so much memory. That speeds it up. Apple offers no permanent hard copy connection to back up my iPad Air. No, a $3000 computer is not a $300 memory device.
And I reduced the number of Apps that I don't use because I have two iPad Pros now.
My iPhone 4 S, is 11 years old and works fine. I did replace the battery. It is very limited, no RUclips. Apple makes iPhones redundant by limiting Apps with iOS upgrades, but it still does what I bought it to do.
I emptied the memory to speed it up, but when I resigned in it started reloading. I use it as a desk calculator and timer. It is light and compact and 100% reliable as a phone but a bit small for maps. My iPhone X is nearly 5 years old and works fine. I prefer to do most things on my iPads but they have never been available with a built in mobile. My friend has a Samsung tablet with a built in mobile phone. Great for signing in and authenticating passwords and receiving codes by SMS. It cost about $300 with an 8" screen, and fits in her carry bag.
I do tend to buy a new iPad every 3 years, mainly to maintain speed with the growing memory. I am close to 1TB and need a 2TB device.
I use iCloud as a back up but as Tech Pros point out it is not a guaranteed backup.
I was alarmed to discover that Apple prioritised some of my memory to iCloud and I do not have that memory saved into my phone. iCloud is very silent about what I call the theft of my iPad's memory.
My point is, upgrading every year is a rich man's game. Expect 10 years service from an iPhone or iPad. We upgrade because our needs, uses and desires change.
I curse the fact that Apple keeps introducing new ways to do the same thing, with tech speak terms to confuse tech freaks, but Apple fails to produce it's own Apps for professional users. Apple removed Publisher and left us with Pages. As a trained Graphic artist they reduced my graphic presentation to typing with some picture inserts.
I deliberately changed from Microsoft to Apple, from the old Windows and Office to Apple and Publisher. If I say why my comment may be blocked.
The executives at Apple pay professional graphics artists to design their presentations, and probably never even tried Publisher, or to create a graphic designed document.
Steve Jobs created Apple, hardware and software designed to work as one simple system. Now it is being reduced to the core. A clever device that cannot produce without third party Apps.
I can't scribble or highlight on my calendar. Apple pencil does work sometimes as a mouse device, Der! It is needed as a pencil.
I often cannot save to my photos. You probably save to Dropbox. I bought an Apple product that often won't save a copy without using Dropbox, or Pinterest, Crazy. Ever tried to use an image from Pinterest in a document?
When Apple changes the Operating System and deletes Apps it also deletes access to the memory in those Apps. Does Apple Care?

The battery health on my iPhone 11 is at 88% at the moment. I've had it for more than 2 years, and it's just had a slow decrease in maximum capacity (completely normal, since rechargeable batteries degrade with usage). Throughout my time using this phone, I've just charged it every night whenever I go to sleep. It's a major benefit to my usage, as I get to have a full day of usage from 100% in the morning, to a respectable lower amount in the morning. While I don't get the same battery life as I used to get, it's not that big of a deal, as my iPhone 11 never dies. So just using a phone normally, and having it charge at night is probably the best method to conserve your battery health for the long run, as it's consistent for people who use their iPhones frequently.

I’m at almost 2 years (1 year and 6 months) on 99% battery (12 pro max) I charge every night and use plug in apple car play. I usually get 8-10 hours of screen on time. It only dropped to 99% 2 weeks ago it’s crazy staying at 100% for a year and a half. The only thing I do is I leave auto brightness on and I have low power mode on all the time cause I don’t notice a difference in performance. I won’t be able to do that when I get the 14 pro max Though, cause I’ll be using 120hz. So we’ll see how that battery does for me.
Update: I just used the battery cycle shortcut and realized I’ve only gone through 60 cycles in 1 1/2 years, which I guess makes sense cause I often can go 2 full days on 1 charge if not more. That’s crazy

I think having 2 chargers 1 fast (20 or 30W) and 1 slow (5W) is the best combo. Slow charging overnight and if you are running low on battery on a heavy day just plug in the fast one for a quick juice up. Specially helpful when you're travelling.

This video starts OK, but goes to the point that you should disable all features of your iOS device in order to save battery - and simply, that's not true and will not help at all. Disabling widgets? WTF? Those are specifically made with restrictions on how much data they can pull. They pull data incredibly slowly, which is btw very irritating, but you can see that data is pulled only when you're on home screen (not while you're using other apps) and in very long intervals.
Enabling low power mode ABSOLUTELY doesn't help with the battery. There are comparisons on youtube, and it saves less than 5% battery while enabled, but DRASTICALLY degrades performance.
And my biggest complaint - don't watch youtube on your iPhone... For what do you think people are buying their phones if not for youtube? Maybe phone calls and messages...? Nearly everyone would rather enjoy watching youtube in bed instead of watching it on computer, and you have to notice that not everyone have smart TVs.
No offence, there are a few good tips, but mostly the largest part of this video is only for watchtime and will not actually help people improve their battery life.

I think heat makes the biggest difference. My 13 Pro has 319 cycles and I'm still at 97%. Maybe it's also the fact that I've almost exclusively used the MagSafe Battery Pack and kept my phone charged around 90%.

@@falcondragonslayer More than wired charging, sure, so my battery could have lasted longer. I use a LifeProof FRE case, which has the charge port blocked most of the time for water resistance, so MagSafe is more convenient overall, and most of the time it's trickle charging the phone at 90%, so it's not generating as much heat as it would when actually charging the phone from a lower state.
Though being away from WiFi does decrease the charge even with the battery pack, and the phone warms up a bit then. Otherwise it works well.

My 13 pro max is still at 100%, bought on launch day. I have lithium battery experience from r/c. Tempurature, charge state (higher is worse), charging rate, and charge cycles are what age a lithium battery. I find wireless fast charging heats the phone up a bit while charging, much more so than my old iphone 6 charging brick. I use the old 1 amp charging brick so it charges slowly, at less than 1C (capacity in maH) - which is kinder to the battery. I usually only need to charge every other day, sometimes longer so this slow charge is not a bother. I have no qualms of fast charging if need be. Lastly, I don't top off the charge unless I know I won't have access to a charger for the same reason we don't store lithium batteries at 100% charge. That's also the reason why Apple's optimized charging doesn't charge to 100% till the last minute.

I believe from my experience that keeping the iPhone disk at 95% will increase your battery life span greatly. Again it may not be entirely correlated to the disk usage but the fast disk will increase cpu and ssd are known for been heat generators so bear that in mind next time you move all your pictures to iCloud or offload all your apps. So Apple should put up a, "Charge Now," notification when the battery reaches a low of 20%.
And Apple should put up a Save Battery Life and stop charging when the battery charge reaches a high of 80%.
Does this mean the operation on a single charge is about 60% of the absolute possible life of a single charge and we are being grossly misled about iPad use on a single charge? That is the life on a single charge Apple should advertise.
The main reason people upgrade their phone is because the phone runs slow, and the performance time is short due to battery life problems.
In fact Apple interferes with my iPads and iPhones with software updates, resulting in changed performance and service life.
We should be able to open the back, lift out the battery and run our device on 220 Volt or 110 depending where you live. Or leave the battery in and have power to charge to 80% and power to a transformer to directly power the iPad like a desk top.

when it comes to not using the phone for games or notifications it doesnt make sense. we are talking about battery health, not battery life. so not using the phone would be ideal for both but whats the point of having a 1000$ phone then?

Thanks for sharing these videos, never thought about it like that. I’m on an iPad Pro and for some reason it doesn’t let me see the current battery capacity. Even your other tips from past are helpful too! Currently, I don’t have a huge issue on battery life, battery health is good.

Hey I have the same AirPods case but in black!! Thanks for the info as well. Very helpful to share the knowledge for my own sake and customers sake since I work at a phone store now and I’m sitting at 90% on my iPhone 12 Pro and I CANT WAIT for the 14 Pro Max. I don’t get super great life out of my current phone for my usage and I’d get a 13 PM but I really like the rumors I’m hearing for this year so I’m going to hold off. I just hope they actually do go through with type c because that’s the main reason I’m waiting.

I’ve had my iPhone 12 Pro Max since it came out and I’ve just checked the battery health and the capacity is surprisingly still at 100%. I’ve not done anything special beyond loosely sticking to apple’s recommendation of keeping your battery charge level between 50 and 80 percent.

I had an iPhone 8 which I bought September 2018, and the battery health tanked to about 82% in a year. When I got the 13 Pro, I took much more care with it lol. With these new phones, you can charge to around 80-85% and it'll easily last the day and so I do that. Currently at 98% health having had the phone since launch

Great video, Brendon. Any thoughts on charging your phone via wireless charging/Magsafe vs wired charging?
Wireless charging is known to warm up the device a lot more that could affect battery health. Do you choose one over another?

Some very good information and also some very silly yeah that’s the word I’ll use silly information. Keep your phone in a cooler? No I’m not carrying around a flipping ice chest to cool my phone.
Don’t use widgets to save battery life? How about just not use the phone at all and keep powered off. That would be the best way. Oh wait you want to use your phone? Yeah why would you not use a feature to save a minuscule amount of battery life or even a minuscule amount of battery health. I could see if this was the zombie apocalypse where you couldn’t get a phone ever again so you had to keep your phone lasting for 10 years or more but it’s not. You can get your battery replaced by Apple for $69. I’m not going to change my entire way of how I use the phone to save $69 over three years. I don’t leave my phone sitting on the dashboard of my car or drain it down to zero every time but I still use my phone. It doesn’t make sense to jump through some crazy hoops for this at all

  • @Mohammad_Ali__

With all of that information added, reducing brightness, turning on Dark Mode, and staying off of high-quality graphic apps (like video games and apps similar to it which especially allows microphone and speaker to be used) are a good thing to do to reduce chances of lowering battery health (let’s say a game requiring high graphics for example). Not charging the phone with a fast charger is also a good thing to do, and not fully charging the battery will keep the battery health in proper status (battery health wise). If you don’t use your apps for an extended period of time, then definitely consider closing the app you aren’t willing to use. If you do use an app and several apps are open simultaneously, then it’s just not worth closing until work with the app is officially done. Closing and opening apps constantly and unnecessarily will cause the app to restart, damaging phone battery health (to a certain point).

@@davidjacobs6244 dude, it actually did (does) work. I’ve tried it on three of my devices. If you think it’s nonsense then try and see for yourself, or just do whatever suits you. All I say in the text you replied to is based on my own experience. I also do my research before using my gadgets. Most of the information I obtain is institution based. Otherwise I wouldn’t even be bothering to write down this text. If you disagree, then that’s still fine by me. Because I use a tablet (iPad pro) and it’s been over five solid years not a problem occurred with the information I apply to the device. The same also goes to the iPhone I use daily, which has been over three years and not even one percent of the battery health decreased.

    • @Mohammad_Ali__
      @Mohammad_Ali__ 2 года назад

@@vegetalno The answer to your first question is primarily during charging. When current flow of power is increased, the charging speed not only increases, but also can damage the battery (it's like being unable to ).
Another side note: using safari can be different compared to other browsers on other devices like Windows laptops and desktops which do offer coupons when doing online shopping. Basically browsers such as Safari and Chrome are almost even, but this varies by device. I am not sure about other apps though.
