Can Solar & A Redodo Battery Survive A DRY Camping Trip?🧐

- In this episode of Wandering Wagners we traveled to Malabar Farm State Park I'm Lucas, Ohio to dry camp and put our @RichSolarTalk solar panels and our @Redodopower 410Ah LiFePo battery, and @VictronEnergyBV controller to the test to see if we could camp regularly without any power or generator on our 2020 Nexus Wraith 34W Super C RV!
We ended up being the only ones camping here during our stay and the weather was quite sunny and warm most of the trip which was unexpected and amazing!
We camped exactly the same as we would, minus the convection microwave as our inverter cannot run it (and yes that's on our list of things to upgrade haha)
Overall it was a success and we got to explore the park and buy more maple syrup that is made at the farm! We were here once before and you can watch that video here: • Great Dry Camping At M...
We rode our @LectriceBikes and also took the doors and freedom panels out of Lynn's @Jeep Wrangler for a great Jeep ride through the park!
The rain held off until the day we were leaving so overall it was quite successful.
@OhioStateParks did it again!👏🏻

Hey guys, love your videos. For our dry camping setup, I have 3 280Ah batteries (soon to be 4). I installed a 3,200 Watt inverter in the compartment next to my batteries and ran a 30 Amp RV extension cord (with one end cut off and wired directly into the inverter) to the compartment where my power cord is. When we are not plugged in, driving or dry camping, all I have to do is turn off my converter and turn on the inverter. With the 3 batteries, I can run one roof AC unit for almost 8 hours. I have 3 200 Watt solar panels I am testing and will roof mount them when we get back for our next trip. Plan to add 3 more 200 Watt panels for 1,200 total. I do have to be careful not to run the microwave/convection oven when the AC is running, but so far, the system works great. So nice to be able to make coffee and toast in the morning without starting the generator.
Sounds like you have a great setup!!👍🏻 We've been pretty happy with ours so far
Excellent choice watts and system for weekends and occasional extended trips. We found 400AH sweet spot. Victron's the gold standard. However, health issues required us to bump up to 600AH with 640 roof solar Plus 600 aux ground solar. Enjoy watching your videos. Thank you.
Thank you for the comment!
We think we got the sweet spot for what we want in solar and the battery. It'll be great for what we want to do😁
Looks like y'all had a Great time there.. thanks for sharing this with us all 😊😊😊😊😊
We had a really great time on this trip! Thanks for watching😁
Thanks for the action video of the pooch pooping. You should do part II you picking it up and disposing of it.
What makes you think we didn't pick it up🤦🏼♀️
Lynn have you tried baking a pie or goodies in your Weber? That would be very interesting.
I have not but I've done things over the fire before. I don't think I'd do a big cake or pie over the grill or campfire but smaller things absolutely!
Nice quiet place. Looks like you’re good to go for dry camping.
You need a Sunrider top for the Jeep
a sunrider top would be nice! We have looked into them but haven't bought one yet
Well he's the driver, of course he's yawling! Nice camper, really nice. I predict all truck campers will go solar. My Northern lite has two 200 watt solar but it's NOT a true solar camper. I like your rig, So you ran the heater at night? You mention the frig, tv. I must have missed your battery video. Abously love your rig, but I don't think it would go up my small hill, not a big hill but a hill in our drive way. Wonder how long the battery will last? YES, inverter should be changed to run AC, etc.
Here's the original 410ah video if you missed it.
ruclips.net/video/eKQzKzQED7U/видео.html
We didn't run the heat at night, windows open for us but we did have the Maxx air fan all night.
The RV is pretty capable😊
Looks like an awesome trip. Stay safe and healthy.
Thank you! We had one of the best trips in a long time😊
Strouds Run State Park has a 57 site primitive campground. It is just outside Athens Ohio. It's first come first serve. If you want to do more primitive camping it might be worth checking out.
That's been on our list actually! We might be there soon
Thank you! I showed this video to my wife's brother looking for a reliable backup battery for his home solar system. He can't wait to receive the package so that it will store enough energy to power his home for a long time.
Perfect! This would be a great help on a home backup battery solar system!👏🏻😁
Awesome that you had a quiet and peaceful trip. Thanks for a great video. We were back at East Harbor this weekend, definitely more crowded than it was a cpl weeks ago. Still enjoyable tho and no hail 😂
We try to avoid east harbor during the warmer months but that doesn't always go to plan haha glad you guys missed out on more hail😜 haha!
Congrats on breaking 30K subscribers
Thank you!!😁♥️ we are looking forward to the next 30🎊
So it seems that all of the videos I have watched from you over the past several months, you have the campgrounds to yourselves. When was the last time you shared a campground? 😆. Great for you on the solar. I love dry camping as we have a robust solar system and enjoy being outside of campgrounds. Replace that inverter!😁
Hope you enjoy the future of being unplugged!
Haha well we do try to go to less populated parks sometimes but we were at East harbor in the hail and there was quite a few people there who wanted to camp in the rain and hail too😜 sometimes we get lucky, like we did here, where we are alone and the weather was awesome! That's a lot more rare haha!
We are looking forward to more dry camping and more Boondocking!😁👏🏻
Yep, about time to bite the Victron multi plus 'bullet'. Game changer. BTW, your micro will need a few more panels & batteries, they're as hungry as the AC is. Great vid. Have Fun-Stay Safe
Yeah we know it's on the way soon.. Just need to bite the bullet😁
I haven't done any dry camping with the rig yet. I just have the standard battery that came with my Jayco. I need to decide if solar and the battery upgrade would get used enough to justify it. It does look like sites are always available for dry camping and less crowded. Hmmm... you got me thinking. Nice job.
Yes they typically are way less crowded and easy to get into. One reason why we wanted to have some solar and a lithium battery to get ya through some dry trips😁
I am so disappointed at Mike for not letting Lynn wear a tank top... Dammit 😂😂😂😂
Haha after the walk the Jeep ride cooled me down
That was a fun camping trip
Thank you! It was a great trip😁
@@WanderingWagners I love ❤️ the camping 🏕 trip on an rv motorhome
Thank you!
@@WanderingWagners your welcome 🙏 anjoy
Well done! Thanks for your recommendation. I was looking for one of these batteries.
We have been very happy with it and the solar panels😁👍🏻
Enough of the midwest! It’s warm, roads are clear! Head to the Texas coast! Just saying! 😂
Texas? Yuck. So flat
We almost did but we are currently in the South
@@WanderingWagners Then you’re not far away! See you at the campground! 👍👍👍👍
I was so impressed with the REDODO 100AH mini battery, and the support, that I purchased another one!
That's awesome to hear! We have been very happy with ours
With the weather you're losing your touch. 😂
We will take it😂
I get sleepy when it’s so peaceful too, lol.
I’m in Montana and it’s light outside until around 930pm. I love this time of year when the days are so long :)
That's so nice when it's light it that late! We will be out that way in late July and August. We were really sleepy haha
@@WanderingWagnersThat’s awesome, I would offer my property to you guys as i will be back in AZ but there is no way your beast of a rig would make it in here.. lol.
Hopefully you guys make it to The Yaak, it’s truly the best place in Montana :)
Thank you! We look forward to our western travels again😁
Really good video. That was a great test of the system. Looks like it works flawlessly. 😁
It honestly did work really well! Between the panels, battery and controller we are very happy!
Another fun video - love the tour of the “murder house”! Thanks for posting your adventures to inspire others to go out and see the country 👍🏻
So glad you enjoyed it! It was a really nice trip and we couldn't believe we were in the campground by ourselves
New subscriber so I may have missed it...did this motor home not come with a generator? I find my RV's generator invaluable when getting my coffee fix or needing to use the microwave. I don't think I could justify spending the time or big money on upgrading to expensive lithium batteries and all the associated necessities for the short times I need big power.
Yes we have an on board generator but sometimes parks don't allow them, or we don't want to turn it on just for coffee etc, we enjoy the quiet serenity too😊 we needed new coach batteries so decided to do some solar and a battery. So far we are very happy! Granted we still have the generator is we need the AC overnight etc
These lithium Iron batteries charge much faster than lead acid, last 3x longer and will make your genset runs shorter if your charging your house batteries. Solar not required.
We need to put this park on our list.
Definitely! You can dry camp with the Bouyers😜 but really we always have a nice relaxing time here! Plus there's plenty to do and explore in the area
@@WanderingWagners I see you got jokes! 😝
So this comment is before I made it past 20 seconds in the video with all the batteries you guys have and the solar off-grid camping should not be a problem for you two... But I'm sure it won't be dry 🍺🍷
😂😂 good call
Couln't you also hook up the battery to the RV so that it charges when driving? Also, if you have a few days of no sun, you could run the RV to charge up the battery.
The battery does charge from the solar while driving. We need to get a DC to DC converter to charge off the alternator.
How did you get the camera footage when you were riding your bikes? Fun weekend.
360 camera
Watching from Ohio
Awesome! This is a great Ohio state park
This battery seems like a good value for the price.
We agree! Very happy with it so far
Does your traction alternator provide current to your solar charge system while under way? You showed lees than 100% when you arrived at the campground. Your coffee pot is a bit dated. Black & Decker makes a coffee pot that uses a thermal carafe eliminating the need for a hot plate. Just a thought. Thanks for the vids. You guys are great. Slainte!
We disconnected the charge line from the alternator to the house battery until we get a DC to DC converter.
You are correct, we need a new coffee pot! 😆
Those 2 ladies were ghosts
😂😂 wouldn't that be crazy!
Ceeley Rose would've been a Social Media Queen if she was here today! ~ LoL
Haha! Right?!😂
I am at a loss for words... Lynn did not get wet and yet you both still had fun! But Mike get that power to the micro...you need PIE...
Haha it wasn't warm enough fort bikini yet but VERY soon! We definitely got ice cream though😁
will that battery charge on a regular system or just solar . and what kind of inviter are you using
Our onboard charger in the RV will charge the battery. Our charger isn't rated for lithium though so it'll only charge to about 80%, solar will top it off from there. Our inverter is Magnum brand, which isn't a bad brand but it's not pure sine wave. We plan to upgrade to a victron inverter.
Do your solar panels charge the battery when you’re driving
Yes
Question; what is your fuel mileage with the 6.7 Cummins . You have completed some long trips , up and over mountains . I am interested as i about to buy a similar rig . 38ft
We usually see 8.5 mpg pulling the Jeep.
@@WanderingWagners hey thanks for coming back so quickly. We will be pulling the same a Jeep . We are look in at getting the Renegade Valencia , also withe the 6.7 . Watching your long trip out west has influenced my decision. The 6.7 seems very capable.
You will LOVE that renegade! The 6.7L is a true workhorse, it'll take everything you throw at it.
It's great you had 2 full days, no rain 😊 Safe Travels ❤️🤍💙
It was one for the record books haha but alas the rain found us😁
But Mike had ice cream 🍦
Yes he did! He was so happy about that
I have a 200 amp hour Redodo in my cart but haven't pulled the trigger yet
We have been very happy with our 200 and now 410Ah battery!
do you still have lead acid for the chassis?
Yes we do
I was multi tasking so maybe I missed the bikini 👙 😅 great video
😂 no bikini in this video unfortunately
@WanderingWagners still a good video
@@chuckchillson2877 appreciate it!👏🏻
4:56 was that Chuck texting more bikini pics?
You know how he is haha
Big ? 4 you two do let person to new' the bathroom when you go camping yes or No
We're not sure we understand exactly what you're asking.
Do you let person. Use the bathroom when you are camping. Sorry about my note.
@@renemoralez4509 only we use our RV. If there are other campers they use the outhouse or if they have a RV, they'll use their own bathrooms.
