Hey Ben Zac I appreciate you guys bringing us up in the RUclipsrs doing knife designs. The way I see it is I have been testing knives for years now being very critical of many knives and after handling thousands and thousands of knives And doing all kinds of tests on knives of all shapes sizes and uses. I believe that I can not only design a good knife but that I can design a knife for knife guys, for those that might be a little picky over the little details that can make a great knife over a good one. We love knives and love that others do as well I hope everyone in this industry can be successful, not one of us takes away from another. The audience is growing at a massive rate, and I feel blessed to be here at a the best time possible. Thank you to everyone that shows love in this amazing community regardless if your into knives or any other edc items.
It’s very interesting to see what RUclips KNIFE critics design. I was very pleased to see Neeves Knives design because I was pretty certain of the things it would have to have, separation between plunge, grind and edge, access to the lock bar, thin slicing Blade, with strong detent.
yeah completely agree! it’s hubris and ego that would make someone think that only a select few have the market cornered on ideas and design. and frankly thats the mentality that hinders the community and makes it stale. We need more passionate people because there are so many uninspired designs flooding the market.
As a knife maker, I thoroughly enjoy collaborating with RUclips knife reviewers/ personalities who bring genuine expertise to the table. I specifically choose collaborations with individuals who have a deep understanding of their craft, having handled and tested thousands of blades. This level of experience is invaluable. I also appreciate working with RUclipsrs who have specialized skills, such as martial arts, which provide unique insights into blade usage. I’ve collaborated now with several RUclipsrs and it’s an honor to work with them. Great video topic.
I think the YT knife designers are bringing a new perspective and variety to knife design. They have the unique position of handling so many knives that they can start to find design/functional cues they resonate with and apply it to a knife design of their own creation. Love to see it!

Personally, I am a huge fan of RUclips content creators designing knives. These are the guys who have handled hundreds if not, thousands of different nice designs. They know what works and what doesn’t work. I am psyched to be living in a world where knives are designed by people who know their stuff instead of people sitting behind a desk who are just trying to help their company make a few bucks so they can keep getting a paycheck. Literally all the best I’ve seen this year have come from contact creators. Zac’s Civivi, the Landers, Jerad Neeve’s designs, Metal Complex’s design, Divo Knives… these are all examples of what I would consider, nearly perfect knives, and all of them are made by guys who do knife reviews, and have handled more knives than I ever will in my entire life. Not to mention, they are die members of the knife community. It is so great to see these guys take their designs and actually get them out into the world. I will always trust a Contant creators design over some things designed by a team who doesn’t really use knives or handle any knives besides their own designs. I hope it stays this way
Zac! What a good friend you have in Ben. Someone who who will just corral you with his positive tireless energy and strongarm you into designing your personal knaf. We should all be so lucky to have people in our lives that believe in us and push us to be our best.
I love my Marbles Safety Folder! As a Michigander, that design was really important to the development of the Marbles company 100 years ago and I love that these reproductions are hanging out there to keep tradition alive. Thanks for making my day Zac!

I’ll say it … There are many more RUclipsrs designing and making knives than just the “big” channels… and they’re designing and making outstanding knives. AND they’re producing them in the USA. I think that knife reviewers (and not just the “big” knife reviewers) are as qualified as anyone to design and make knives because they’ve handled thousands of knives and know what works and what doesn’t. But let’s be real, there’s A LOT of gatekeeping and conceit in the knife world - including making, designing, and reviewing knives. Hubris and fear is why “professional” designers don’t want others in the space. If their products are quality and priced right, then they shouldn’t feel threatened. But the truth is that there’s a lot of “professional” designers and makers that consistently produce a lot of overpriced, average knives. On the other hand, there’s a lot that produce consistently quality work as well. Those that feel threatened simply need to do better, check their egos, and quit being gatekeepers. Simple as that.
Super pumped that I made the cut two weeks in a row!!! Much love for all the Knafs gang, Zac and Worksharp. As far as RUclipsrs designing knives I am all for it. The sendy, landers, Lulu and banter series are some of the most thoughtfully designed blades that are great to use. I expect no less from the Yonder. I’ve been watching Zac and Ben for the past decade and their knowledge on the function, build quality and purpose of blades is unmatched. Bring in more knife designs!!!! Great topic. I mean, as a youtube reviewet, ive seen a pile of knives and i know what works for me and doesn't. I can also get lots of community feedback that i can apply to design. I think the absolutely qualifies me to design knives and know what will sell. Thats the way i see it in tegards to my small company, Tempest. Others are entitled to their opinions, but so am I. I love the fact that so many of us are doing knives because it's made the the selection of knives way better recently. Companies are improving because we're pushing the envelope.
Ive been saying it since last year. The knife industry is changing and now its Knives for the people FROM the people. Theres more RUclipsrs besides neeves and mc who are designing knives. There are several awesome smaller channels that have designed amazing knives. We need fresh perspectives and new eyes. It is time for a change, and Ive been telling anyone who would listen, it is possible for anyone to design a knife and get it out there for the world to share. You dont need engineers or all that. Pencil and paper. Get your ideas out there! Share your imagination with the world! Some knives will soar, and others wont, but still keep going! Everyone has an idea, and it should be shared with others! There is room for ALL designers and makers.
There will always be new designers of almost anything that people might use on a daily bases. This helps to grow and improve on the products being made due to new insight. I think it is great. Keep up the great work.
As someone that would say you guys got me me into knives, I think it's awesome that you guys get your shot. Your opinions have made me buy lots of knives. To me, designers don't matter it comes down to will the knife fit the parameters I like for something in my pocket. I like and support you guys for what you have brought to the space.

I watch everyone in the thumbnail with the exclusion of Taylor (Best Damn EDC), but I'm glad that RUclipsrs who handle hundreds of knives a year are getting opportunities to develop careers of designing knives. I know that Jerad (Neeves Knives) is a professional knife sharpener and David A. (Knife Center) is an actual knife maker with his own brand which was forged with training, tips & in collaboration w/ L.T. Wright. Even Metal Complex getting an opportunity to design is still cool to me because of how much time he puts into research and reviewing products & materials. Ultimately, it's the discretion of the brands/manufacturers though. What better way for a company to say, "Hey, thank you for reviewing our products and giving us promo! Let's make your dream or a vision of yours come true!" That's what really makes it awesome and understandable.

Anyone can design, make or sell knives but it would take mileage for a "brand" to be created which involve in knowing the community & what's in demand. A good example would have to be Ben himself. Love the wholesomeness! I’m all for knife reviewers designing knives. I trust that they are working with engineers who can help translate their visions into working products. However, I imagine it would be harder for them to make something truly unique or evolutionary rather than a hodgepodge of desirable features they’ve seen elsewhere.
What would be cool, but it would probably hurt the industry, is an online knife library where people could check out a knife for a period of time, and then return it. Like a pass around on steroids. You pay shipping and like five bucks and you can check out any knife. Of course that would also require a philanthropic collector/s but it would be great for folks who don’t live close to a large knife retailer.
U guys are an iconic duo. I got to see Ben in ATL, and I'm currently trying to hunt down Zac, because he's in my state w the Work Sharp thing. And yes, I'm here for the YT knives. Neeves made a banger, so did Vu, so did The Stache, and few others. I want them all.
I bought a couple Knaf knives just because Ben is cool, the Landers turned out to be part of my main EDC knives in the rotation. Can't wait to check out the Yonder by Zac!

Would be fantastic to look for those boxes in Europe! Also Knafs Slipjoint with PM steel, pocket clip, replaceable (open source) scales. If you OEM that slipjoint in Europe, a European steel would be cool. I'm going all in and suggest Böhler K390.
I think its great. These guys handle pretty much every knife known to man. Who better to know what works, what doesn't work. I personally pre ordered AT Knives first design, the H.A.L.T. Cant wait to get it.
I love that people who are big in the knife RUclips world are designing knives. People like MC, Zac, DCA, EDM, etc handle so many different knives day in and day out that they knows what makes a good design and what doesn't better then almost anyone else. I love seeing what their minds can create after handling some many different knives. Its also a really cool way of owning a "piece" of your favorite knife content creators. A lot of knife designers are good at designing knives based on what they know and can really good at it but it just a very different perspective to someone like a youtuber who handles tons of designs by all kinds of designers and makers.
Competitors complaining about more available knife designs to choose from, talk about missing the first for the trees. Jealousy is powerful and useless emotion. Keep up the great work Ben and Zach. Always happy to see you both living your best lives and succeeding!
Inclusivity is one of the biggest draws for me to the knife community, never once has anyone made me think my presence was unwanted and people like Ben, Zac and, Neeves make me feel like something bigger than myself. This is a healthy thing for men, iron sharpens iron.
There are literally 10s of thousands of knives on the planet, from custom South African designers to Civivi, to Spyderco and hundreds of other manufacturers. Customs alone are a huge rabbit hole. As a consumer I really like the choices, I love most reviewers but I have to say that @neevesknives has influenced me more than almost anyone on what I think of when I think about pocket knives now. I carried a ZT350 for years, and got an Benchmade Adamas a couple years ago as well. The only thing I wasn’t happy with those knives about was their slicing abilities. Turns out I much prefer a thin, slicey, easy to deploy knife. I’m far more happy now than when I was carrying sharpened crow bars. I guess that’s all a long winded way of saying that I really appreciate the knife community coming up with designs after handling and using more knives than I’ll ever see. It’s really nice to have a detailed explanation of the design features. Like access to the lock bar or blade geometry and heat treat. I don’t think this takes away from other designers at all. I’m still going to save up and get custom knives. And I’m still going to carry a shaman or yojimbo. And yeah I’m going to get the yonder, the Excalibur, and Jarrod’s knives.
Gatekeeping by the knife designer is ugly and disappointing. The idea that you have to "pay your dues" to be able to try anything is steeped in ignorance and fear. The same thing could have been said about the designer espousing this idea back when they first were getting started. Gatekeeping only does one thing: eliminates new and fresh ideas. We need more people trying their hand at designing something, not fewer.
First off, calling the Banter ugly?! I know beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but how many knife nuts own a banter or baby banter? It can't be that ugly if its one of the most well recognized designs on the market. Also, why does being a "RUclipsr" disqualify you from being allowed to design a knife? If anything, having your hands on as many knives as possible to show other people design, fit, and features is a good thing! Having hands on experience with a lot of knives gives knife reviewers experience that many ordinary knife collectors just don't have access to. I have seen many knives that were made by renown knife designers and were subjectively ugly and/or too expensive for me to love. Knife RUclipsrs are putting out something more than just a knife they designed. RUclipsrs are putting forth their design for what would be the perfect knife for themselves! And that resonates with people! Being able to take all their favorite design elements and designing a knife for a knife company to refine into a finished product doesn't detract from the effort put in from the RUclipsrs. If I write a book and have a professional editor review and edit my work, does that no longer make it my book? Just because I didn't edit, print, and distribute my book myself doesn't make it any less my creation. I hate this gatekeeping b.s. and shame on whoever this knife maker is for stifling the creativity of others!
Let knife purists buy the knives designed by traditional designers and knife makers. If the RUclipsr designers suck, no one will buy their knives. Without the RUclipsrs the knife craze wouldn't happen and way less knives would be sold. I watch almost ever Zac video I can find. I live vicariously through his awesome rambler lifestyle. I want that knife because if it's good for him then it'll be good for me!
Historically, craftsmen were also the designers. Their hands-on knowledge of their products and how they were used led to improvements and new designs. RUclipsrs that handle so many knives and get so much community feedback have a vast knowledge that helps them to design at least well functioning knives. Not all are gifted with creativity to make those knives look unique or attractive. Gate-keeping by modern knife designers who specifically learned design seems very narrow-minded. I am in Europe and I want a box!

I think it's completely fair game for everyone willing to put a design on the table. I don't think there has been a time like this where people can do almost what they want even if they willing. You can decide you want to learn how to take an Engine apart without knowing anything about engines, but you can probably find several video tutorials guiding you through it.
What qualifies someone to be a designer? Experience? A degree? RUclips knife reviewers have handled so many knives, have used so many knives...how could some not be great designers? I am a nobody, with many years of usage experience, martial arts background, and I have a great designs that are in circulation. No formal schooling in design. I know what makes a good knife, just like many others out there.
Everyone has things they like and dislike about the knives they have. RUclips knife reviewers are no exception, the difference is the volume handled. I don't know if designing one knife qualifies someone as a designer as there would be hundreds of people that designed one thing based off the best bits of things they like and a lot will have failed or been a flash in the pan. Sales numbers would show if it's a good design. Any one that sticks their neck out, designs a knife and manages to get someone to produce it, well done you I take my hat off to you for giving it a go.
The one issue with many youtubers making something is that a lot of those youtubers are established reviewers for the product they are making. Creating a product in the category they have been reviewing turns them from a critic into a competitor. This means that the audience should be re-evaluating the objectivity of the critic because they now have a strong financial stake in promoting their product over the competition.
I love you to and I respect you. Honestly you two on blade hq were the reason I think I have buttered my knowledge. Keep being awesome and Zac keep on keeping on.

DCA is a knife genius! Zac is probably one of the best people to test knives and has real world insight. They should collaborate on a knife design.

I watch everyone in the thumbnail with the exclusion of Taylor (Best Damn EDC), but I'm glad that RUclipsrs who handle hundreds of knives a year are getting opportunities to develop careers of designing knives. I know that Jerad (Neeves Knives) is a professional knife sharpener and David A. (Knife Center) is an actual knife maker with his own brand which was forged with training, tips & in collaboration w/ L.T. Wright. Even Metal Complex getting an opportunity to design is still cool to me because of how much time he puts into research and reviewing products & materials. Ultimately, it's the discretion of the brands/manufacturers though. What better way for a company to say, "Hey, thank you for reviewing our products and giving us promo! Let's make your dream or a vision of yours come true!" That's what really makes it awesome and understandable.

My brother's I discovered years ago that Civiv , Sencut and knives have factory clips that can be switched out that's why all my Civiv and Sencut have Titanium clips purchased from Amazon for $13.50 and now you're Knifes and we in the knife community our happy to see that you guys are together Que Lindo Bella Bella Bravo Bravo 🎉🎉🎉😊😅

So great to know Zac in The Wild is still around the Knife World. Kind of missing his Bike Vids. Anyone can design, make or sell knives but it would take mileage for a "brand" to be created which involve in knowing the community & what's in demand. A good example would have to be Ben himself. He has the knowledge & connections but he has "mileage". So much so that people on Christmas Island knows who Ben is.! Rapid Fire should come to Australia. Cheers cobbers.!

Love the wholesomeness! I’m all for knife reviewers designing knives. I trust that they are working with engineers who can help translate their visions into working products. However, I imagine it would be harder for them to make something truly unique or evolutionary rather than a hodgepodge of desirable features they’ve seen elsewhere.
What would be cool, but it would probably hurt the industry, is an online knife library where people could check out a knife for a period of time, and then return it. Like a pass around on steroids. You pay shipping and like five bucks and you can check out any knife. Of course that would also require a philanthropic collector/s but it would be great for folks who don’t live close to a large knife retailer.
U guys are an iconic duo. I got to see Ben in ATL, and I'm currently trying to hunt down Zac, because he's in my state w the Work Sharp thing. And yes, I'm here for the YT knives. Neeves made a banger, so did Vu, so did The Stache, and few others. I want them all.
I bought a couple Knaf knives just because Ben is cool, the Landers turned out to be part of my main EDC knives in the rotation. Can't wait to check out the Yonder by Zac!

I think its great. These guys handle pretty much every knife known to man. Who better to know what works, what doesn't work. I personally pre ordered AT Knives first design, the H.A.L.T. Cant wait to get it.
I love that people who are big in the knife RUclips world are designing knives. People like MC, Zac, DCA, EDM, etc handle so many different knives day in and day out that they knows what makes a good design and what doesn't better then almost anyone else. I love seeing what their minds can create after handling some many different knives. Its also a really cool way of owning a "piece" of your favorite knife content creators. A lot of knife designers are good at designing knives based on what they know and can really good at it but it just a very different perspective to someone like a youtuber who handles tons of designs by all kinds of designers and makers.
Competitors complaining about more available knife designs to choose from, talk about missing the first for the trees.
Jealousy is powerful and useless emotion.

Inclusivity is one of the biggest draws for me to the knife community, never once has anyone made me think my presence was unwanted and people like Ben, Zac and, Neeves make me feel like something bigger than myself.
This is a healthy thing for men, iron sharpens iron.
Who cares, Ben has made some of my favorite knives and that one from Zac looks great. Why does it matter who makes them, as long as they’re good??

There are literally 10s of thousands of knives on the planet, from custom South African designers to Civivi, to Spyderco and hundreds of other manufacturers. Customs alone are a huge rabbit hole. As a consumer I really like the choices, I love most reviewers but I have to say that @neevesknives has influenced me more than almost anyone on what I think of when I think about pocket knives now. I carried a ZT350 for years, and got an Benchmade Adamas a couple years ago as well. The only thing I wasn’t happy with those knives about was their slicing abilities. Turns out I much prefer a thin, slicey, easy to deploy knife. I’m far more happy now than when I was carrying sharpened crow bars. I guess that’s all a long winded way of saying that I really appreciate the knife community coming up with designs after handling and using more knives than I’ll ever see. It’s really nice to have a detailed explanation of the design features. Like access to the lock bar or blade geometry and heat treat. I don’t think this takes away from other designers at all. I’m still going to save up and get custom knives. And I’m still going to carry a shaman or yojimbo. And yeah I’m going to get the yonder, the Excalibur, and Jarrod’s knives.
Gatekeeping by the knife designer is ugly and disappointing. The idea that you have to "pay your dues" to be able to try anything is steeped in ignorance and fear. The same thing could have been said about the designer espousing this idea back when they first were getting started. Gatekeeping only does one thing: eliminates new and fresh ideas. We need more people trying their hand at designing something, not fewer.
We need a Joe X designed knife. I want a knife that can cut through the Apocalypse.
First off, calling the Banter ugly?! I know beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but how many knife nuts own a banter or baby banter? It can't be that ugly if its one of the most well recognized designs on the market. Also, why does being a "RUclipsr" disqualify you from being allowed to design a knife? If anything, having your hands on as many knives as possible to show other people design, fit, and features is a good thing! Having hands on experience with a lot of knives gives knife reviewers experience that many ordinary knife collectors just don't have access to. I have seen many knives that were made by renown knife designers and were subjectively ugly and/or too expensive for me to love. Knife RUclipsrs are putting out something more than just a knife they designed. RUclipsrs are putting forth their design for what would be the perfect knife for themselves! And that resonates with people! Being able to take all their favorite design elements and designing a knife for a knife company to refine into a finished product doesn't detract from the effort put in from the RUclipsrs. If I write a book and have a professional editor review and edit my work, does that no longer make it my book? Just because I didn't edit, print, and distribute my book myself doesn't make it any less my creation. I hate this gatekeeping b.s. and shame on whoever this knife maker is for stifling the creativity of others!

Let knife purists buy the knives designed by traditional designers and knife makers. If the RUclipsr designers suck, no one will buy their knives. Without the RUclipsrs the knife craze wouldn't happen and way less knives would be sold. I watch almost ever Zac video I can find. I live vicariously through his awesome rambler lifestyle. I want that knife because if it's good for him then it'll be good for me!
Historically, craftsmen were also the designers. Their hands-on knowledge of their products and how they were used led to improvements and new designs. RUclipsrs that handle so many knives and get so much community feedback have a vast knowledge that helps them to design at least well functioning knives. Not all are gifted with creativity to make those knives look unique or attractive. Gate-keeping by modern knife designers who specifically learned design seems very narrow-minded.

I think it's completely fair game for everyone willing to put a design on the table. I don't think there has been a time like this where people can do almost what they want even if they willing. You can decide you want to learn how to take an Engine apart without knowing anything about engines, but you can probably find several video tutorials guiding you through it.
I have the Big Banter and I absolutely think it's an amazing knife.

Nothing unfair about RUclipsrs making knives whatsoever. Someone made efforts learning design, while someone made efforts putting the words out.
What qualifies someone to be a designer? Experience? A degree? RUclips knife reviewers have handled so many knives, have used so many knives...how could some not be great designers? I am a nobody, with many years of usage experience, martial arts background, and I have a great designs that are in circulation. No formal schooling in design. I know what makes a good knife, just like many others out there.
Everyone has things they like and dislike about the knives they have. RUclips knife reviewers are no exception, the difference is the volume handled. I don't know if designing one knife qualifies someone as a designer as there would be hundreds of people that designed one thing based off the best bits of things they like and a lot will have failed or been a flash in the pan. Sales numbers would show if it's a good design. Any one that sticks their neck out, designs a knife and manages to get someone to produce it, well done you I take my hat off to you for giving it a go.
The one issue with many youtubers making something is that a lot of those youtubers are established reviewers for the product they are making. Creating a product in the category they have been reviewing turns them from a critic into a competitor. This means that the audience should be re-evaluating the objectivity of the critic because they now have a strong financial stake in promoting their product over the competition.
For me, it was great to see Zac! Have you seen what has happened to Blade HQ videos since you guys left. Not so good. 🎸🔪
