- May of last year we reported that Dom had announced that he was diagnosed with stage 3 pancreatic cancer and that he had a surgery scheduled for May 13th. In September, he gave us an update on his situation, “After 6 of my 12 chemo treatments, my Dr’s did a CT scan and found there was no sign of cancer…I am cancer free!”.
Last month he announced he would be at NAMM and I (Paul Rogne) had to find time to meet with him. His positivity and continual optimism are contagious and had to be his most valuable asset when fighting this disease. This is a lesson to us all to embrace life, be kind, help one another, and to always remain positive even in the toughest of times. He often posts inspirational messages, post NAMM he wrote this “It’s hard to find anything more infectious than enthusiasm. Enthusiasm is the antidote to negativity, the enemy of pessimism, and the destroyer of do-nothing indifference.”
Not only is he an amazing drummer, but his kindness seems to have no boundaries, he was at NAMM to promote his involvement with “The Sessions” - a non-profit to Enrich, Educate, and Empower. He hosed The Sessions sponsored panel titled “Remembering Jeff Beck”.
Dom is also involved with Can-Do Musos. A Can-Do Muso is a musician with challenges who is very passionate about their music. We use the word "challenges" with Can-Do Musos because, quite often disability gets mis-interpreted as inability. People with challenges can overcome them and be empowered and successful.
Can-Do Musos was established to promote and support musicians who face "challenges" in their lives from all over the world.
In honor of Dom, please consider donating to these organization to help musicians.

We love you Dom/'Fam'! Praying for ya; God bless brother -- *****Respect to the highest level!
Saw Dom at a drum clinic for Drum Headquarters in St. Louis in 1983 (40 years ago!) with Simon Phillips. Dom was a total inspiration. He taught a lesson he called "From Flam to Groove". I still use concepts gleaned from that lesson today!
Brave man. Great teacher, superb drummer, until the end. Thank you, Don.
Much respect and admiration for Dom. Truly a great person and I thank him for his kindness and generosity. May he rest in peace.
Great to hear that Dom is healthy. He spoke to my high school and played for us (and with our jazz band) and I remember it vividly 30 years later.
You're an inspiration in many ways Dom
Miss you Dom. You were a huge force , Fun, top educator, all around nicest guy and a true Ambassador for Drums, music and expression. Your Caring soul will live on forever. Thank you for all you have given us and for the enormous catalog you have left behind ! Love to your family.
God Bless you Don and stay strong 💪🏾 we love you too brother ❤❤😊!!!!
God Bless.
Complete badass and amazing human being!
Great to hear that you're cancer free Dom. First met Dom in the 70's. I would see him at my local music store, Loria music. Rahway, NJ.
Music can heal anything. We love you Dom! We will send all our drum love you way. God bless you!
How can you not love this man 😊
RIP Dom
People defy medical expectations all the time. I read a comment recently of a guy who was diagnosed with HIV back in the early 80s. The doctors told him he was done but guess what; he's still here with us today. Happiness can exist in darkness if we remember to turn on the light. Keep your light shining Dom.
Pancreatic cancer its the only cancer that will give you no hope of surviving unfortunately
We love you, Don! Thanks for all you do. We appreciate and are inspired by you!
I hope you will be ok sir, have a nice day
Stay well Dom. We all love you.
If anyone read his last words that was posted to his socials, it says a lot about Dom's spirit and attitude. The man passed on happy and cheerful, and with positive energy.
같은 하늘 아래 함께 할 수 있어 영광이었습니다.
고인의 명복을 빕니다.
love you and your dedication to our art form!

How does someone get that diagnosis and keep smiling. RIP Dom, you're a legend, not just for drumming.
The same damn cancer that took my sister at 63 yrs of age. What a shame we lost such a great human being and drummer/ educator.
Great seeing you “up and around”! I’ve been asking God to transform you and heal you. He has given us our gifts of music and is our daily Bread! My prayer now is you will move closer to “Jesus Christ the author and finisher of our faith”! Be blessed brother!
RIP Dom. This is a huge loss
Has he previously taken a covid vaccine? RIP Mr. Dom
Probably the worst cancer to get..many I’ve known over the years, didn’t make it..
Sadly..he has passed.
So glad to know he's cancer free.
Where did he say he was cancer free??
