    18:28 "Zeug" is quite an interesting word. Today, we would translate it as "stuff" on its own, but that is only half the truth. Look at these words: "Werkzeug," "Flugzeug," "Fahrzeug," "Spielzeug" (tool, airplane, vehicle, toy). "Zeug" actually is a suffix describing tools or implements and the like. Werkzeug = "work-tool," Flugzeug = "fly-tool," Fahrzeug = "travel-tool," and Spielzeug = "play-tool." Now, there isn't a proper word like Küchenzeug for kitchen tools, but a clutter of tools for the kitchen could be described as such anyway. With word associations like Küchenzeug, the word Zeug slowly became a generic descriptor for "generic stuff," regardless of whether the stuff in question is actually tools or implements to begin with.

    • @SimQuips
      @SimQuips  2 месяца назад +9

      yeah I heard that flugzeug was like "flying thing" so I always think of it as just meaning "thing" or "stuff" but yeah words and language change over time (and that seems to be accelerated now with all the new internet slang that appears every month lol)

      Instead of "mein" (en. my) the correct choice would have been "man" (undefined person would be the closest description I can come up with, don't confuse it with "Mann" (en. man)).
      And all nouns are capitalized in german.
      If you wrote by hearing pat yourself on the back, you did a good job.

      Instead of "schreibt" the correct form would have been "geschrieben".
      Also all nouns capitalized goes for you aswell.
      Verbforms can be a bitch, probably for learners more than people who grew up with the language. Your pronunciation is very understandable but it still needs a bit of work. But pat yourself on the back too, you did a good job.

    26:07 It'd be simple if they were backwards, but for some reason, they say the hundreds first, then the units, then the tens 🥲. So 123 in English is one-hundred and twenty-three, but in German it's einhundertdreiundzwanzig.

    • @crittergonya
      @crittergonya Месяц назад

      @@louisrobitaille5810 i as a dutch speaker always see it as the 23 being a seperate part of the number. So i dont think of it as honderddrieëntwintig, i think of it as honderd - drieëntwintig.

      Free german lesson (or just me correcting you).
      Your sentence structure is correct, the konjugation and declination of the words seems to be your main problem (here).
      The only spelling mistake is with "sehr" the h is a "Dehnungs-H" a stretching h, it's there to elongate the e.
      Now your "Eine" references the "Video", "Video" is in german neutrum and would be refered to as "Ein" in the nominativ, your "gute" has a similar problem and should be "gutes".
      The last word that needs correction is "Deutsche", it should be "Deutsch" when refering to the language.
      I believe in you getting the hang of it at some point.

    • @Alex_Vir
      @Alex_Vir 2 месяца назад

      @@SimQuips Another free lesson, as it is needed here a bit more, because grammar.
      Capitalization beginning of a sentence and every noun.
      The missing umlaut is not a problem in my eyes as your keyboard probably doesn't have it, but the replacement for "ä" "ö" and "ü" would technically be "ae" "oe" and "ue".
      Now we get to the meat of it. Your grammar is obviously not german and english is a likly candidate (I don't know if you know other languages but english grammar fits perfectly here).
      The correct sentence would be "Vielleicht sprechen wir mal Deutsch zusammen." but explaining that is a bit to much for my very limited knowlege about the language. What I just so can explain is the difference between "manchmal" and "mal" in this context, as sometimes (as in "how often do you eat bread" so a frequency) is not the same as sometime (as in "when are we going to the racetrack again?" so an undefined point in time), sadly sometimes "manchmal" gets shortend to "mal" but context should clue one in.
      Good luck on your language learning trip, keep up the talking.
