I was thinking of something the size of an apache 1800 or 2800 - the most connections and biggest battery you can fit in that small space would be good for a 100w day-trip. My ammo can is also good for a 100w day trip with a 12ah battery and some accessories. @@MM0OPXFieldRadio
Nice one, Colin. Have a look into the MPPT solar inverter side of things, they can be a massive source of noise. I went for a Genasun LiFePo charger on recommendation from various sources - they are NOT cheap but are electrically quiet compared to some others on the market. They are designed specifically to be quiet.
Thanks for the heads up. I had a look and they look pretty low current. Perhaps more suited for a smaller build which I am planning now after getting the bug building this one.
I used one of those eBay special 12v fuse boxes for my main shack (battery and solar powered), and after a few weird "power off during TX" issues with my 7610, it turned out to be the fuse holder melting internally, which only became obvious from the smell of burning when it got really bad! Midi or maxi fuses for me now for anything over a couple of amps! ;)
I stripped it down and inspected throughly before using but I will keep an eye. If I had more cash I would have opted for the Deep Blue Systems one which is marine rated.
“Semi-neat” LOL… it’s beautiful!
My OCD always tells me it could be better 😂
@@MM0OPXFieldRadio if you were truly you would call yourself “CDO” alphabetized properly like every word should to be.
That’s very very nice colin!! 👏👏
Thanks mate 👍
Great project Colin, finding the links you’ve provided very useful. 73 Mike
Thanks Mike. It was a lot of research but enjoyable.
Battery boxes are great!
Yep, it got me wanting to build a smaller one now in an ammo can or similar. I seen your one, it was pretty neat.

"12V Go Box" or "Power Go Box" nice build!!!
Thanks 👍
excellent build.
Thanks 👍
You did a great jib on this
Thanks 😊
Excited for this one!
Thanks, I really enjoyed this build.
Paint it RESCUE ORANGE all over, then you can call it the "Black Box". Perfect name.....
Oh, the irony of that statement!
I had a look and they dont so this box in orange. I would have went for orange if they did.
Shame the battery wouldn't fit rotating it 90deg for extra space.
I know but also a consideration is the position as its horrible to carry when the weight isnt centred.
Your links don't work to the Amazon products.
Agh, i will rectify tomorrow.
Try now John, just a formatting error I think.
All good now mate - with thanks!@@MM0OPXFieldRadio
The link for the powerpole connectors on the front isn't there Colin.
Added now John, both connectors and housing.
