This is a great idea! I usually do a simple wire wrap for my bale and with the extra wire, I wrap my crystal and make swirls with the two wires.
Question, should you wire harden the bale to make sure it holds it's shape? 18 gauge is sturdy but it does bend easily. That's what I use with wire wrapped bracelets.
